  1. After being peer pressured by you bloody cunts, I decided to pull the engine out. (I hate you all now but believe me that once that engine is back in I'll be thanking you for doing it once doing it right) So first thing on the menu was to sweep up all that sound deadening which was surprisingly heavy 2.5 decent sized rubbish bags full. Then I made the executive decision to make getting the engine in and out easy. Before it goes on the transported I'll be fabbing up some nice brackets to hold this back in place and give it back the strength it needs. Leaving me with this nice big gap. Then after undoing this, twisting that, pushing this and pulling that... out she came. Leaving me with a gaping hole. So now that's done, I'll have a few wee things to do then it's off to the blasters. Couldn't have done it without the almighty help of Jibba Jabba/Midnight/Mo Bigga/Plank/@lowlife. Thanks bud - you rule!! Also cheers to @vivaspeed for the lunchtime beers.
  2. Doesn't run because it's sat there for 9 months without being ridden. Plus I want to tidy it up a little bit. Awesome, I think that may be the spot where mine is cut so it might be an easyish fix.
  3. @MopedNZ do those mudguard extensions replace ones that people have cut off? Or are they meant to replace a bolt on part? If it's the latter then the part it bolts to must have been cut off my frame too.
  4. That's a good idea, but also chuck a bit of detail into the posts when you do. However I don't want my post to turn into a chance to ride the OP, because I've given them a wee nudge. If the wee nudge doesn't change things then all power to let social justice run it's course but it's best to give them a chance to rectify first.
  5. You can thank someone for reporting the thread, I wouldn't have even seen it otherwise. LoL Problem is there are so many threads and posts that mods will struggle to read them all, so we rely on people using the report button a lot more than you would realise. I'll delete this thread and others like it in a few hours, that should give the OP a chance to sort it out.
  6. The 2 mechanics were young guys and said they were both super into Cubs, in fact they were fizzing and showing me photos of theirs when I took it in. I have no reason to believe it, but it almost felt like they had decided to smash me with a super high quote so I wouldn't do the work and then hit me with a hefty bill for them looking at it so I would tell them to keep the bike in exchange for the labour or something like that. Having worked in workshops for a few years, I have seen the old "buy cheap, fix and flick for profit" trick from some of my less scrupulous workmates... Oh yeah - they also tried to sting me $10 (a day?) for storage of the bike over the last week but the parts girl felt bad about the amount of the bill and took it off. I would have flipped out if they did charge me cos they had the bike for the whole last week because I was waiting for a phone call to let me know what was going on and I had to ring them on Wednesday to get an update.
  7. Hey man, we don't really do dump and run posts here. Can you give us a bit more of a rundown and some detail, otherwise it just looks like an advertisement for another website. Cheers
  8. Many moons again I bought a Cub deluxe from fellow member @kicker and I've had it sitting in my lockup with very little riding so it sat there and the throttle had semi seized but I have a desire to hoon it over summer. So I took it to a local Scooter shop who told me they owned a ton of these, they proceeded to charge me $125 to "look at it" (a compression test, adjust the point gap and look in the fuel tank) then tell me it would cost at least $500-1000 and up to $2000 to get it running. Which, as you can imagine, made my eyes water a bit more than normal. I approached @Hayholes mum who told me to pull my finger out, I grabbed it back from the scooter shop and its now at his workplace waiting for me to strip it down. This is how it looks right now. But I am in negotiations to swap the frame for a Cub standard that does not have the rear fender trimmed because that's my preferred look. Plans are for a bit of slam, clutched 125cc, some wider tyres, BMX bar conversion, low mount headlight and knee height speedo. I'll also splash out on some new rims if I can afford it. Fortunately most parts are available on Trademe for these thing meaning it's fairly cookie cutter stuff. Having been a mechanic for a lot of years I should have looked at it myself but for some reason bikes scare me. Now I know how much they charge an hour I'll never be going to a bike mechanic ever again. These are some of my inspirations right now... I'll update some pics as I proceed through the strip down and rebuild process. Let's hope it's one of my quicker projects...

    Kicker's C50

Whats the plan next, blast it and paint it?
  10. If anyone is feeling particularly energetic on Saturday and wants to help me pull the motor and box, then I'll be sure to be super grateful. Pretty sure I can do it on my own but if I have other people turning up to help then I'll have a really good reason to not be a procrastinater and put it off.
  11. I have seen dual round headlights mounted in the holes and headlight covers over the top. Looked surprisingly legit.

If you're going to bobberize it, do you want to swap the frame from this for your old frame with the cut rear mudguard? Winky wink...
  13. It was easy. I literally tipped a quarter of the ice on the passenger side (because most of the sound deadening was already gone) and the rest on the drivers side. Moved it all around with gloved hands. Went and worked on another car for half an hour (I could hear all kinds of cracking and creaking from the floor) Went back with a motorcycle tyre lever and ran it up against some of the loose edge and the vast majority (98%) came off with zero effort. The last 2% came off with a couple of whacks and a few little bits needed the hammer behind it. Spreading the ice it took 2-3 minutes, waited half an hour then taking the sound deadening off was probably 10 minutes work. Took longer to clean all the dry ice off the floor and tip it down the drain. LOL
  14. The plan is, sandblast/rust repair the engine bay and get it looking nice and also the interior in front of the B pillar rust free, sound insulated and carpeted. If there is money left over then I'll look at doing the outside.
  15. Little Dick? Nah just the driver has one of those.
  16. compared to ...was slightly concerned that someone was going to call the bomb squad when I dumped the remainder down the drain... no one did, I think
  17. Did some sound deadening removal today. Shit is so easy with 10 pounds of pure white Columbian ice. All the shit I got out - some pretty sizeable chunks there
