  1. There is a matching wall attached to the pump and its extended forward. The capacity of the extension is about 900ml. The engine is notorious for oil surge/starvation issues then only real solution is to run a dry sump setup. It was working fine until the revits failed. The head is known for holding oil as the drains arnt big enough. With the Gti-6 engine they addresses some of these issues (high pressure oil pump spring, different pump speeds, block alteration, head alteration) but the EW engine really had a massive redesign to help resolve the issue. There are a lot of different baffle system you can get for them including drop in plate systems that restrict flow, but a trapdoor setup is better than that. The Mi's are getting hard to find, looking towards the future I'm better looking at the EW series where the gti engine was in a lot of cars imported to NZ - the Mi's are starting to get harder to find even in the UK. The gti vs gti 180 engine debate has started on the 205 gti drivers last year with a lot of pointing towards the gti is a better engine to start with as with the smaller ports its a better development platform and can be easier to tailor to the needs of the racing environment the cars in.
  2. Engine, gearbox, custom top mount, altered bottom mount, hoses, wiring, Link Ecu, throttles, manifiolds (intake + exhaust), etc... I was think 5-6k + overrun costs + rework... It's still not that common a conversion so there isn't any off the shelf conversion parts it all needs to be custom. The Mi16 XU9j4 was in production in 87 and the EW10J4S was done in 2000. The EW is the evolution of the XU series and uses a lot of the same traits... One small point of concern is that it's sits at 15 degree's vs 30 degress so it's a taller engine once it's mounted and sits a little bit lower that the XU engines which means less ground clearance... so a strong sump guard or dry sump would be needed for me.
  3. Actually.... Been thinking in my head about everything... Been told roughly 2.5k to repair this engine or Pete's offered me one for $900... but i've got a lacrosse world cup trip next year that i'm trying to save for so i've basically made up my mind that unless a short block becomes available for like $400 i'm going to hold off... The current thinking is looking at a 206 gti or 206 gti 180 EW series engine, throwing a link at it and quad throttles... shouldn't have much change from 8k but a decent rebuild of the Mi16 will be 4-5k and it's an old engine with known oil problems. The EW series is MILES better for oil control and the 180 with a better filter setup and a chip has been consistant at 200hp at the fly... which is a big step up from the 155 the Mi is rated for. The EW are also a full alloy block / head setup also.
  4. The rivets let go on the door in the red circle: This let the oil move away from the pickup during that sweeper... I'll need to do a lot better with it next time. From the iphone accelerometer thingy it was saying i was pulling 1.2 - 1.3g's through that corner, so the forces should only increase as i get the suspension sorted and new tyres...
  5. Sumps currently back on the car to stop dust and crap but i'll dig out a photo of what it looked like before and explain how it broke.
  6. Yeah i probably need to be a lot more comfortable with others around me, it's the first real time I've been in a situation where someone was trying to overtake me on the outside... I knew my car pushed a lot out of the corners so i was fearful of where they where in case i slide across the front of them... Brad - i eventually want the 205 to be a gravel rally car... so i guess it's a fundamental difference. I love seeing how fast i can go from point A to point B, and i hate being held up. I love it when it gets bumpy and rough and really makes you work to keep the car on the road... My ideal road would be a 1.5 car wide country lane with a tree canopy / hill and cliff setup... and very very twisty...
  7. I think so, i took the rocker cover off and it looked all good. No dropped cam buckets - so yeah... That tinking sound might have been the trapdoor in the sump that broke and was floating about in the oil...
  8. I do have to say, i'm not that big a fan of racing on the circuit after dealing with that starlet... I spend soo much of my focus on worrying about where he was and not wanting to crash into him that it really messed me up... I looked at my laptimes they where 1:25's when he was around and 1:22's when he wasn't around. I was thinking about doing the AES euro series, but i think i would end up being too slow worrying about not hitting others...
  9. Sump guard after Sainsbury.... Might be something to look into if you want to road race... because yeah...
  10. Soooo this happened: So the 205 is going no where fast at the moment...
  11. Well after some help from a friend last night, i'll be needing a new crank, big end bearings, and caps... The baffling in the sump failed (door broke) and allowed the oil to run away from the pickup and we all know what happens when engines don't get oil... So i'll give my mechanic a call and see what he's got laying about and how many banks i'll need to rob to get the parts, but i'm thinking i'll end up parking up the car until i get back from the worlds next year.
  12. like this one Max: http://www.motorsport-sales.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=320&products_id=2723
  13. http://files.marktime.co.nz/fiat-club-waikato/13/09/01/RACE04.TXT all results here: http://www.marktime.co.nz/results/fiat-club-waikato/13/09/01 The official Fiat ones are still to come...
  14. Things are getting interesting! Round 4 Results: Archtype - Brent - Mazda RX-7 - 100 DRTDVL - Heath - Peugeot 205GTI - 95.58 Mikuni - Brad - Opel Vectra - 89.24 Shaneo - Shane - Ford Escort - 86.36 M_C - Max - Ford Escort - 85.78 OS Championship (combined): DRTDVL - Heath - Peugeot 205GTI - 388.68 Archtype - Brent - Mazda RX-7 - 381.53 Shaneo - Shane - Ford Escort - 350.30 M_C - Max - Ford Escort - 343.44 Mark105 - Mark - Fiat Uno - 270.47 Japawagons - Keegan - Fiat Uno - 193.31 XSSPEED - Steven - Toyota Corolla - 96.21 Mikuni - Brad - Opel Vectra - 89.24 Truenotch - Markuu - Toyota Corolla - 84.19 Edit: found a time for Brad - i'll update this soon Brent - If you can score better than a 87.15 you most likely will take out the first OS Tarmac series! I have a very strong feeling i won't be at Hiwi road. If you drop your worst score of 79 (motokhana) you should surpass my score! I'm out of contention for the Fiat Series overall, I'm 11 points behind Christo i think so there is no way i can beat that...
  15. looking good man! So Hiwi road is next... which is basically 6 weeks away, i know a few of us have some serious work to do to get there but it's worth it if you can! This helps to give some idea of the elevation changes on this road - this should help with understanding the drop on the blind crest...
  16. Brent I want to see that hillclimb video!
  17. Don't use my car as a indicator for anything, the roll centers are all wrong, blown front shocks, unknown front spring rates, different spec old tyres... I'm surprised with my times given the state of the car really. No idea whats wrong at this stage - a friend is bringing an endoscope over to look in the chambers to see if its valve damage... I'm hoping its big end bearings as they are apparently cheap and easy to fix - but I have a feeling it's top end... I shifted into 3rd a bit too soon and almost over rev'd it but caught with the clutch... I'm also not sure if my oil cooler is working correctly either...
  18. Session 1 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmF-LmaTNps Session 2 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPWbCwNp-uY Session 2 (footage from other car) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG84X068-5I Overall some very very average driving on my part... It's really hard to go fast when your focusing soo much on not crashing into the person thats around you... I was doing 1:25's with the starlet, and 1:22's after he spun...
  19. Furia - Max (M_C) also popped his engine today hence to x2 comment. Waiting to see the results but I should have clawed back some points on Christo as I think he was in the 1:25's - but Brent's 1:18.xx should have closed him up a lot on my time so the OS results should be interesting... Had a great amount of fun today... Couldn't find the grip I needed to go fast today, but did ok. A better suspension setup and fresh tyres should make a huge differance. How did everyone else go? Brad - how was the first time in the Opel?
  20. I'm going to bite the bullet and put my worn semi's back on my rims, i was if it was going to be pouring with rain talk to Steve about using his semi's on the track. But if it's dry i have a feeling i'll cook them. So still need to swap over rims and sort out ducting for the brakes... maybe a brake fluid flush also. I've got a set of worn very semi's that i'm going to bring also, they are old but unlike my other semi's they have almost no tread but it looks like they haven't ever really been heated up properly so i'm hoping they might act as slicks (haha - maybe....)
  21. How's everyone shaping up for the dual car sprints? I just need to get some tires swapped over, upgrade my Harry laptimer version so it links with the go-pro, and the biggest thing get the brakes working properly... 1) bleed brakes 2) sort out some brake ducting setup
  22. Tomorrow night! i'm going to be illegal and drive to Max's place with no bonnet and fit it there. Hows the beers?
  23. I stopped counting how much money i've spent - lots of money and nothing to show for it! Still a broken POS...
  24. Not me... Saving for the world cup next year and being paid on the last business day of the month means i have very little spare cash towards the end of the month... Monthly pay sucks btw...
