  1. It's always an interesting thing when people say for the level i'll be doing... (BTW i'm not commenting on your cage, just people who go for the cheapest "min" spec cage as your cage isn't from what it sounds) The Clubman level events i've been doing - so the lowest form of Motorsport in NZ - on hillclimb and bent sprint events we see speeds of 160kph - 180kph the more powerful cars will easily see higher than that (i've only got 130hp). I don't see how thats any different to a "National" level event like Targa who use the same roads a lot of the time. Some of the cages you see in the cars at the events are just scary.
  2. No such thing as overkill on a rollcage in my opinion. I've seen the aftermath of a skyline hitting a tree at about 180kph with a good cage, both driver and co-driver where just bruised... I can't understand going for a "min" spec cage, it's your safety. My cage is good, and there are still a bar or two i would like to add to it and it was suppose to b a 6 grand cage (chrome-molly) when the originally owner put the cage in.
  3. Auckland Uni Car Club is $10 a year and is a MSNZ clubby - i paid for 3 years... so cheap. You can still go enter all the other clubs events, just sometimes it's a little more expensive for non-club members... Fiat Car Club runs a nice winter tarmac series that you don't need a cage for just a clubman license.
  4. Nope she's kiwi. Ryanfels, they where new - once the gearboxes where replaced they where ok. I wouldn't buy one, but she loved it. She had an 04 hardtop, then an 04 soft top, then an 06 soft top
  5. Mom's had 3 A4's each one had the gearbox replaced in under 10,000km
  6. Alaric from Driven Performance (owner) had one (not sure if he still has it) as a race car and did a fair bit of work to it. If you want some parts or information he would be the person to talk to.
  7. I found the black had a higher temp than the red paint when i was looking for paint for my exhaust. It was something like 650 vs 550.
  8. GAZ have a decent name in the UK - a lot of the 205 and 306 guys use them in their fast road /occasional track day cars.
  9. yeah... like i was going to mention painting a BMW a Renault color on Bimmersport...
  10. I still think it would look epic in Renault Liquid Yellow
  11. Every WOF i've gone for in the 205 has ended a screaming match between myself and the various testers... Car's too high compaired to cert plate, wheels are too small (factory wheels not the aftermarket ones on the cert plate), exhaust too loud (parked facing the buildings wall taken at a 45 degree angle at .5m away), plastic windows (on auth card), targa windscreen banner not transparent then after showing them in the manual it's a sticker it was 3mm too long and failed on that... those are just some of the arguments... everytime it's something... The car's nice and tidy not some scrapping on the ground held together by cable ties and duct tape drifter wantabe special... I hate / dread taking it in for a WOF. Anyone know anyone in auckland who is racecar friendly for WOF's? Ohhh and WOF testers who screw around with my brake bias valve grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
  12. Photos: Basic history: It started life as a white 1.6 gti and was used as a press-car (i've got the original NZ Car mag where it was on the cover being thrown around a gravel quarry.) In 2002 the pervious owner - Mark Herbert -built the car for the 2002 Dunlop NZ Targa, and unfortunately didn't finish the race due to an accident. Mark repaired the car and then it's sat in his workshop waiting for the finishing touches to be done since then. In 2008 went to see Mark to price up a rollcage for the 306, after 30 min of looking at the rollcage in the 205 to show me was he would do - i was sold - nice rollcage it was going to be... Mark then as i was walking out the door asked if i would like to buy the 205. I took 1 day for me to confirm that i could purchase the car - re: The GF approving that i spent the money on buying the car instead of a trip to the states, which as you can tell by reading this it was... The car will be used for tarmac events until i can afford the undercar protection and gravel suspension - so i'm figuring a few years off... Seam Welding

a guy i know who use to race for ralliart japan, comments that if it will make him corner faster he will happlily bounce of trees and rocks.

    Seam Welding

thought that was a standard rally driver mentality

    Seam Welding

probably the welds? making sure they are done properly as i'm sure it must be done by a certified welder and blah blah
  16. can i ask why your flowing at 10 inches and not 28? any chance to have a look at the ports, chambers, seat alignment with port walls and chamber?

    Track rubber

i would be conciderate of the cooling factor those wheels will have. does look like it's going to retain the brake heat quite well...
  18. there can be a reasonable increase in just removing the as cast surface in the ports and chamber, you can generally find about a 5 - 7 % increase in flow/velocity. espically if you have a miss-match in alignment between the portwall and valve seat.
  19. i've run both motol and total in my car and it was much much better than the mobil, and factory pug stuff.
