  1. Gonna do my handling course early May and have pretty much never ridden a bike apart from the odd scooter. I'm s bit worried about being a complete noob on the day, so was hoping to have a quick go on someone's bike before the test. Something close to a gn250 or whatever they use on the test would be good. Only really just want to get the hang of clutch and gears really.

  2. The old Rola passed a minor milestone yesterday, and as it clicked over, I thought it would be a good idea for a thread.

Cars, Bikes, Trucks, doesn't matter, post em up.

Can be high, low, any mileage…...

    1990 Corolla 1.6 with a 4A engine.

Serviced every 10 k since new (car was bought new in the family), onto the 5th cam belt, never had an internal engine problem, head never been off, doesn't burn oil, just goes and goes.

Another 1990 Corolla wagon here, 4af going strong. No idea of service history though

  3. Success! i hadn't undone the bell housing bolts, but after I did everything flopped around a lot more. Flywheel looks pretty good, clutch plate not worn to the rivets, so might just flag machining and just scuff it up a bit. Now off to the shops to get a rear seal plus other assorted goodies.

Am seriously doubting that I can get this back in the hole on my own - could anyone spare an hour or so later today to help hiff this thing together?

  4. The mount near the steering rack. It will have two bolts and a nut holding it to the cross member. The nut threads onto a stud. The stud stops you being able to get the mount out and possibly the north/south cross member.

The stud is splined into the mount. You can hit it with a punch and hammer to remove it. You may need the other bolts still in there to hold it when you punch.

Once you get the stud out things are a bit easier.

You may need to jack the gearbox up a bit to make space to remove the mount.

    Make sense?

Yeah just got a bit confused when you mentioned punching it out cause mine slid out with no force needed. But yeah I was stuck on actually getting the loose mount out but will see if I can jack up the gbox enough to clear. Cheers

Edit- sorry re read your post, I see what you're saying now. Will try that.

  5. BAM! started first pop.  So I assume old man southern was on the money about the ignition module.  My guess is that it was already on it's way out and me messing with the tacho/dash rubbed it the wrong way just enough to kill it.  I will conduct further tests on the old distributor FOR SCIENCE.

  6. Yeah I was thinking that, but all I really messed with was power to the stereo, and the instrument cluster. Ive chucked the old gauges back in, in case the tacho was screwing with things. Shouldn't think it was, since it was working happily when I last took it for a little test drive. I don't know what else to check really, all the fuses are happy, I feel like it has to be something to do with the dizzy.

I'm about to go chuck the new one in so I guess we'll see!
