  1. I remember pulling apart the motor that was in the ride on mower I bought off @Nominal a number of years ago and thought the plastic components were surprising and you can’t help but think that can’t be good, but in saying that the reason that motor had given itself an upper cut was due to a metal (cheese) part giving way. I think if any of the plastic gave up it wouldn’t run but unlikely it would have ventilated the case either.

Was the little pivot arm 757 in this diagram that let go.

    2013 Lexus gs450h

Young English backpacker, maybe all of 20, bought it for 13k to travel nz in. It seems like a lot of car for the money. Certainly quite an oppulant way to kick about NZ.  They were roughly 140k nzd when sold new in oz.  0-100 in 5.6 seconds ain't too shabby.

Fuck it's a hefty car though and I'd not really enjoy working on it.

Edit : more like circa 120k new and 5.9 secs according to this..

Shouldn’t need to work on it, will go forever.

  3. I am very happy to say we never have to use public chargers. Few times we have on long trips has been off peak trips to Taranaki and it’s been a breeze at foxton or levin.

    hamilton must really really suck.

Did you use any stain remover, or just normal washing machine stuff? I've used SARD and it does a pretty good job getting a bunch of the oil out of my overalls. Just got to pick all the nuts, bolts and swarf out of the machine afterwards.

should have left a magnet that doesn’t go rusty in your pocket.

  5. Hit 20,000km in the 208 on the Friday commute. Still going strong, no notable change in battery life, performance etc. still on o.g. Tyres which was a concern I had from user reviews online.

they must have a punishing commute or they drive like idiots. Being in an ev with radar cruise for work commute I would really really struggle to go back to ICE.

I think I've seen a 508 phev wagon for sale on Trade me recently.

I wonder if this is any good

I didn’t think they did a phev version of the wag? The wagon is a handsome creature but I think I saw it is being discontinued in nz??

Edit - they do make a phev wagon but don’t sell it here and am pretty sure they are killing the wagon in nz. Perhaps the one you saw was Aussie import?

  7. Started looking at those as an option and realised they a pretty flawed and outdated now. Maybe pricing has come down since but would have to be significant.

I do like how they look and a high spec one has great interior.

There is an F series that bolts straight in. Mine came from a left hand drive French MA45 Celica. haha!
Thanks to @thegreatestben who was wrecking it a long long time ago.
Needless to say they are incredibly uncommon, took a fair few years of looking before I found one. (And back when there were a lot more of these era cars around)

The only problem with this setup is that it's factory drum rear, so has the skinny bearings. I've got an Estima setup too that I might shorten and swap in at some point. So I can get the big bearings on the axles. As I've worn out these ones a few times already. They start leaking after a while.

I think it was Swiss! I think I still have pics of that on my hdd at home. That car contributed to a few OS builds :)

I'm glad you're still getting use out of the parts, and the wheels. I will need to come for a hoon in the Carina when it's running.

  9. AC in my peugeot makes no noticeable difference to my mileage.

Surely if they introduced RUC's on all vehicles any taxes essentially become user pays? I liken it to councils wanting to move from flat rate for water charges into metered water charges.

Definitely should be a (better) weight/engine cc matrix for determining RUC rates for passenger cars.
