  1. I needed all the length I could get. The desk is for both of us to work at so it needs to be as long as it can. I cut the slabs at the longest I could fit in the van and that dictated what lengths I had to work with.
  2. That's Rhona's handy work. Not sure why she decided she needed to do that tbh
  3. So 2 and a half years later. Where the fuck did that go? Its been driven and moved from place to place while I built things at the old house and now we're in new house. Got a warrant for it the other day. The guy said the rear lower control arm bushes looked borderline, so I wasn't going to leave it like that and I got some new ones. Thing is these bushes have always worn out faster than any of the other ones, they've always been a mega cunt to install and they always looked like they were the wrong ones. Today, 13 odd years after I built this thing, I figured out why. I had left the steel sleeves from the factory rubber bushes in the arms. No Fucking WONDER!! funny how you can do shit wrong on multiple occasions and not even see it. I made a tool to push out the old sleeves and low and behold the new bushes fit a zillion times better, almost like they were made for it. I am still 1000% going to fully rebuild this car, every nut and bolt, but I need to build a workshop first so once again this car has to wait.
  4. I made a table/ desk out of a couple of slabs of Norfolk pine. Planed about 15mm off the faces and sanded it. First with the belt sander then up to 240 with the orbital. I've just put the first coat of Danish oil on it Haven't done the legs yet, I'll take them off and do them in a more back friendly position.
  5. I bet you'd forgotten about this. I certainly did. Literally. The machine shop rang me up and asked me if I was going to come and pick up this block. I didn't know what they were talking about. in amongst building room on the old house, selling house, buying new house and moving house I actually forgot about this engine. But here it is, like a bad smell it just keeps hanging around. So the block has been cleaned, main journals line bored, cylinders bored 0.50 over and decked. I've got a new everything for the bottom end and I'll put all that together. Cylinder head is being worked on. Is getting 1mm over size valves, shortend valve guides and the valve seal spigot is being machined to accommodate the bigger cam lift. New cams as mentioned new springs and all that. but that's to come.
  6. Well after both crowns being in storage for a year and a half I finally have them back. Couple of maintenance jobs to do. New clutch slave and replace a leaking axel seal. Pretty easy stuff really. Then it's warrant and drive. This car is still ace just fyi.
  7. so the house is sold. we got a good price for it in the current climate which we were happy with and now we live in Hunua. i guess that closes that 16 years of life.
  8. I remember you old build thread and I really liked what you were doing at the time. I was very disappointed when you vanished from the internets. Great to see you back at it, hope it goes super well!
  9. LPG safety switch's are quite handy for this task.
  10. hey mate, yea the gearbox crossmember was modified, the original gearbox is a side rail type and they are really long, the tail housing is miles long so i had to extend the mount forward to pick up the new gearbox mount position. i cant remember exactly how i did it but it wasn't hard. the mount is very thick steel (like 6 or 8mm thick) as its the lowest part of the car and hits the ground quite a bit. there are some photos of it on page 3 of the build thread.
  11. 680 is the highest strength but also has the best gap filling capabilities.
  12. im honored to be included in that list. thank you.
  13. its for adjustment. the is a special T bolt that goes through the end of the shifter and clamps that lever to it, its got a shoulder on it so the lever arm clamps to the shifter but it can still pivot.
  14. I am continually blown away by the never ceasing progress you make with half an engine. Great work man, just great.
  15. qusetion, for a WOF re-check do you have to take it back to the same place or can you go somewhere else?
  16. Yea so two things you'll need to know if you're going to put air pressure into it. 2 psi will be enough to turn that tank into a sphere. regulators and pressure relief valves that are accurate at that low of a pressure will cost more than you payed for the tank.
  17. yea that's a good idea, if you bury it about 500 deep and pack the soil tight around it you'll be golden.
  18. i make tanks like that for a living. chuck some water in it and it'll probably pop back into shape, however that crease along the bottom edge where the base meats the side is probably structurally compromised so if i were you id point that side of the tank away from anything you dont want hit by an extremely angry wall of very heavy water.
  19. where did you get it/what brand/is it a decent tool? been keen on one of those linishers for a while but never got one.....
  20. We're still going to move to a larger place south of the city, don't know where yet.
