  1. I was just pondering the idea of driving our truck filled with bikes to the starting paddock, and trying to figure if it would be worth considering for bikes moved vs $$ spent
  2. A long way out, and I don't want to clog up the thread this early with theoretical maybes. But how many North Island bikes would head down if there was a bulk freight option from somewhere in the NI to a spot close to the start point? The guys that got bikes moved down on a few pallets, how did this go? And how much? I'm gonna try do a few sums, my hunch is that it probably wouldn't make sense unless there were a lot of bikes.
  3. The dipstick tube is airtight when stick inserted, stick doesn't go beyond tube, remove tube, oil assumes correct level in tube? Can't explain phenomenon that makes that happen initially, but something fucky with heat cycles and air expansion etc. Don't know if I've conveyed this properly
  4. Hopefully I can make one decent diff out of these two. The swingarms are a little different though. Not really after much for those bits, if they're of use to you, they're yours, a rectangle of cheap cans?
  5. You'd probably have to come get it though or something
  6. This frame seems solid enough, I'd better check it's not better than mine hah! A little bit scabby paint but not chunks falling off or anything. Someone's done a bit of a hate crime on the RH peg mount and put bigger bolts through with nuts, unclear why. I'd like to hold onto the pegs probably
  7. Ooh, that's right, I was supposed to get into shed and look at this thing. The foot lever and cable is missing, I assume everything inside the drum is still there, though I think it's missing it's outer water shield thingo. Will have a look!
  8. From memory its a bit scabby, but not rusted through, will try spend a minute on it this weekend and grab a few pictures/start the dismantling
  9. I probably don't need the frame of this one I've picked up, but I'd probably want to keep mostly everything else that isn't rooted on it
  10. I enjoyed riding around in this in South Island hippy country, neat bus
  11. At this rate there won't be an East Cape there later in the year
  12. IMG_20230208_173416 by John Bell, on Flickr IMG_20230208_173432 by John Bell, on Flickr Facebook marketplace provides, yet to confirm how crusty diff is, but its a complete turd that has been dicked with comprehensively, hoping to harvest it for Footpegs Taillights Front brake cable Gear lever & shaft (non welded) Diff housing and/or guts misc detritus
  13. I recently breathed some life into a 9 year old business spec laptop with a splash more ram and an SSD, its perfectly cromulent, and is pretty well built compared to a newer cheapy. Definitely recommend chucking some of that at an old device if it was half decent to start with
  14. Tangy twostrokes are hard to drive sedately in my experience, I want to make a comparison to a P addict or something The crisp rush of being on the pipe is quite thrilling You try stay off the pipe, and things get lethargic and kinda unpredictable and upset and bogged down, so you'll tell yourself, its just.... one.... crisp... NAAAANNG, and you're back to riding like a hooligan in step one, on the pipe every shift.
  15. Oh and believe it or not 0 leaks from that criminal patch up job
  16. Got what bits I could from Japan for trike, replaced sock air filter with proper element, fixed reverse and neutral dash lights. This looked compromised IMG_20221101_163253 by John Bell, on Flickr Made the mistake of attempting to give some love and care to the trike. Like checking/changing the diff oil, a chunk of fuzzy alloy housing came away when the bash plate was removed. When excavated, looked like this. IMG_20221103_175120 by John Bell, on Flickr With the magic of JB weld to fill the holes, and epoxy to seal over the top looked like this IMG_20221104_090913_1 by John Bell, on Flickr I'll be keeping an eye out for another decent diff/housing. Kinda annoyed as with no oil it was a perfectly quiet diff that gave no clues to failure. Even after trying to clean all the rust and dust and filings and flush the diff multiple times, I now have a noisy diff and oil that still looks like this after 5 changes. IMG_20221108_094318 by John Bell, on Flickr Still trying to track down a front brake cable, might have to try make or adapt something. Has been somewhat useful to potter round on though.
  17. Oh yeah the trophies I couldn't remember what trophy was to be awarded for what reasons. So the trophy comprising of a mudguard and sprocket, got awarded to the absolute fucking weapon on a completely stock A50, on rubber band looking road tyres, he did not hold up a single person. The trophy comprised of engine parts got awarded to the guy with the NBC110 that had a drink, nearly got that conrod straightened out in the motel that night, good effort and hard luck. I'm pretty sure thats who I gave them to anyway. Please make these available next time thank you.
  18. I keep forgetting to report in here again post ride. Subsequently I have forgotten much of what I might have said. I'd especially like to thank our vehicle drivers, but also thank everyone for their positive approach to, what some would have considered a shitty wet miserable time. There was grumbling, but everyone just got on with it and helped each other, and carried on like a bunch of troopers. Cause it was quite wet. I don't have much to add from the weekend other than a repost of the Ruatoria 4Square stock, and photo of my bike at SH2 close to Matawai. IMG_20221113_101739_1 by John Bell, on Flickr
  19. Many thanks, have been pondering if able to commit, and while unsure at this stage, will see how I go
  20. How heavy do you suppose this badboy is?
  21. Trailer looks good, I like the idea of those flip up wheel slots a lot.
  22. I'll see how I go, supposed to be working, but some time off might be nice (ambitious)
