When I had my PI Triumph 2.5 on dedicated lpg if it got low on gas would lean backfire into the plenum on the throttle body's and blow the inlet tract to pieces. 30 minutes to cool down then 30 minutes to reassemble the inlet side of system hoping nothing went AWOL during the explosion. Usually it would do it once or twice more on way to nearest gas station.

Eventually split the inlet plenum its entire length after a nasty lean cough left me stranded and I converted back to petrol.

Modern systems come a long way since .

Just drove Radu's Aurion back from Ashburton.

I noticed if I give it the beans while running on LPG it stutters and misfires between 3000-4000 rpm and then goes hard again. No issues on petrol.

I believe the LPG system is sprint gas.

He reckons it does it a bit while driving normally if the LPG level is low.

Any ideas what would cause this?

Spark plugs haven't been done in the 60,000 km he has had the car. Nor have any fuel filters. Is there an LPG filter or something?

Also of note is when running on petrol the long term fuel trim is about +15%. I haven't been able to hear any vacuum leaks on the manifolds, perhaps a dirty MAF sensor. Is the MAF signal fed into the LPG system?

There is filters that needs to be cleaned as it builds up a waxy residue… def needs a service. The system in the Lexus you can nail the jandal and it drives just the same as if on petrol.

This is great to see people converting to LPG again

The place that converted the Lexus has been swamped with work. They are doing 4 a week which is then max they can do. The wait list is 3months to get a conversion done. One of the local service stations that provide LPG here in New Plymouth said he’s noticing more cars fill up. A taxi company here has also just converted half a dozen cars to LPG as well.

None of them are anywhere near carbon zero, so not likely to be included in a carbon zero plan. A car set up for dual fuel may even emit more CO2/km running on lpg because the CR will be well below optimum. Yes CNG & LPG are cleaner, but you're still burning dinosaurs.

    Compare with renewably sourced electricity/biodiesel/bioethanol.

They are at the moment considering where it fits in according to the latest carbon neutral release. I’ve also spoken to several people on the LPG association on various occasions who liaise directly with the MIE. The sector is also working on renewable gas. The thing is we already have it here. I don’t know where you’ve read that a dual fuel car can emit even more Co2? I’d be interested to read that. I’ve read papers mainly from Europe who do use it for automotive fuel a lot more than the rest of the world.

Commonsense dictates that when a country like NZ has an average fleet age of 14 years and new petrol cars are predominantly still sold Petrol cars are here for a long time. LPG makes sense as a transitionary fuel. If the country was able to go out and rush to buy a new EV the carbon footprint would be huge… all those new cars coming in … cars aren’t made out of thin air. I worked for years in an industry with minerals and resources, and large scale solar farms.
On a another note LPG does in someway mitigate NZ’s total lack of Energy Security… something Germany is finding out about right now.

Anyway things could change a lot depending on the election … then this pathetic Govt of over reach might be out on their useless asses and NZ might  have to revisit their RIDICULOUS virtue signalling pet projects of :

    Zero road deaths

    Zero carbon

    Zero suicides..

    Zero reality.

No, it produces less particulates, NOx etc. LPG is still non renewable carbon fuel.

I never said it was renewable, what about the 100’s of thousands of petrol cars that will be on the roads for decades yet. It’s cleaner than petrol, and especially diesel. Diesels (providing they aren’t DI) run well on LPG and provide better torque too. Work colleague in Oz has a 2011 Cruiser on LPG uses it tow a large caravan … he loved it except the availability of LPG. He’s travelled several times interstate and it is dual fuel but needs careful planning if he wants to run Solely on Gas.

  6. *Update*

Mate is getting his 06 Lexus LS430 V8 converted in the next few weeks. Not widely known but Rockgas will give you an interest free loan for the conversion to be paid off over 15 months.

    It’s generally provided for to:

    * Cars under five years old

*Those who use more than 400 litres a month (generally means 40,000km a year)

    * Use a Rockgas fuel card for a minimum of 3 years.

Hs car is 16 years old.

    He doesn’t do 40k a year

they gave it to him anyway!

with a Rockgas card LPG in New Plymouth is $1.05ish a litre.

His conversion is $6500. His monthly savings on petrol will easily over the $108 per week to pay back the loan…

plus it’s a tax deduction for a company car (which his is).

    Game changer

more people need to use automotive LPG to ensure the network stays and grows.

With the cost of living crisis in NZ, with the cost of Petrol set to increase (next year the excise comes back on; plus an additional 12c a litre bio fuel levy, add on GST expect around 48c a litre more) LPG is a no brainer.

It’s cleaner too by up to 27%, isn’t this the transition to carbon zero the retarded govt want? Or are we all going to throw away ICE simultaneously…

Cost of food… trucking companies are going to the wall … convert trucks to LPG would cut trucking fuel costs by half or more.

NZ has zero energy security … at least this could help mediate it to a degree.

    more info below:

    Rockgas Auto LPG Loan
We offer an interest-free loan, with no credit fees, to business customers to assist with converting an existing vehicle to LPG. The loan is repayable over a 15-month period.
The interest-free loan is available to those with an expected Auto LPG usage of 400 litres per month or more (this generally equates to travelling 40,000km or more per year) who commit to using the Auto LPG Fuel Card for 36 months.

The LPG installer you intend to use will be able to advise you of your likely monthly LPG usage based on the kilometres you drive and the type of vehicle being converted.

The vehicle being converted should not be older than five years and have travelled less than 170,000km at the time of conversion. Vehicles outside this guideline will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
