  1. after watching and comparing that video with the one of my minor, you can really appreciate how slow this is Love it
  2. Pretty much right there, moving 3 cars around with parking for 1 is a bit of a drag
  3. all sorted Mini is currently sitting at my brothers and the reality of buying an old car is setting in more and more as i poke holes in it
  4. Running again radiator is water tight wasnt charging fan belt ended up growing too long, so picked up a Mitsubishi one which should do the job. Dulux Ivy green paint is no longer made, not keen on having to mix anything to match. So will try some Deep Brunswick green killrust, Its pretty spot on (although there are several greens on the truck, and some is showing the lighter green underneath, truck was 2 tone for a while) So will probably end up giving everything another coat and dealing to any areas which need some further love. Bodywork can stay how it is, the dents are far too valuable to take out. Picked up a huge tool box last night, Galvanised 1700 long x 400wide x 400deep. Its huge, would like it on the tray behind the cab, so may need to change where the spare wheel sits - im sure there is an original mount under the tray for it
  5. Everything is built with the idea that some poor sod is going to have to repair this on a hillside somewhere with some wire, a pocket knife and whatever happens to be growing nearby Several drain points on the radiator and engine so your block wont freeze overnight Crank start because of prince of darkness electrics radiator hoses are straight No oil filter - remove the sump and hose out the mesh Nothing not absolutely necessary for the vehicle to do its job, i dont even have a cigar lighter or interior light blow a fuse? no spare? just use the one good one left inbetween the two terminals added in over the years Passenger door catch is a door hook stops passengers from falling out quite well
  6. Wanting to get this mini from one side of hamilton to the other this weekend Brother will happily swap beer or whatever for a couple of hours use
  7. Epoxied, crimped, and re-epoxied the damaged tubes. have it sitting full of water right now, so will check in the morning for any dampness. Will also take my extremely good condition spare to the radiator man for testing (im told theres a pin hole somewhere in it, which is why it wasnt used when the fan hit last time). So that way - in 5 years when this fix fails i will only lose half a day swapping them over. Might go see the bolt man for some whitworth bolts for the radiator sides/grill sides. About half of them are there, with a couple of metric bolts thrown in for good measure. Also to install is a 2kg fire extinguisher, and i have a period correct tool roll, which will find a home on it somewhere
  8. coil is so the tube has a bit of movement - wont workharden (as quickly) on soething that is going to see alot of vibrations probably why all the petrol lines, brake lines, oil lines on my morrie has them
  9. i would chuck an electric fan on with overdrive switch (so you can flick it on in the cabin) Very rarely will it come on - and it wont fall off and go through your radiator
  10. brit car / mini suppliers will have the exact match in a can for you
  11. Today i broke my truck Would have driven it home, if only petrol stations sold anything even remotely useful. Fan pully fell off and went through the radiator (not the first time this has happened to me, or this truck) No big deal, it happened to the previous owner, he just bogged it up with kneed it (system is in no way pressurized) I would have done the same I would like to braize it up, but may just kneed it up again - the only part redammaged is the bodge repair anyways Will need to have a look at the grub screw which holds the fan/waterpump pully on edit: Inspection shows both the grub screws retaining the pully have worked loose. They dont seem so show any signs of thread lock, so i imagine that was the problem. Tasks for today - Plug up the hole -Clean up all related parts - Top up water pump greaser while im there -Repaint pully and fan - Reinstall all parts - with a good deal of threadlock this time - Antifreeze and refill coolant - provide you with more boring updates/buy a notebook so i can continue with the detailed history of this truck for future owners
  12. anyone in hamilton wanting to truck on over in the commer unfortunatly T.A is about a 3hr round trip in it
  13. Throttle stuck open the other day. Pedal stuck to the floor. Wasn't really a problem however, due to a max speed of 80kph and having enough toe on my boot to flick it back up Inspection shows that the linkage mount (pretty interesting mess of springs and brass rod under there) had torn its welds from the firewall. 60 odd years of work hardening will do that. All my diagrams show it mounts up with two bolts. My one is missing the holes, i assume this is because the diagrams are referring to the heavier model, which may need extra beefing up due to the 4L flathead under there. Tacked a few welds back onto it after work today and have everything working better than when i got it. The previous owner mentioned that setting the idle was a bit of a chore (i.e. set it fast for around town and low for open road) This seems to have sorted that, as due to the split there was alot of flex in the linkage. I would also like to have a play with the carb. Its not quite as petrol tight as i would like (previous owner made some gaskets up for it, fixing the major leak. But i think i can do better). Also the bistarter control has been removed. Probably due to this idle problem. For those not in the know, The bistarter is as my owners manual states a carb within the carb. In the cab i have two pull out knobs, one for the choke and one to control the bistarter throttle. So i can control and set the mix and idle from inside. Not designed for use as cruise control, but probably useful when feeding out hay or what have you. Not to mention not having to have your foot slightly on the gas in the mornings
  14. pretty sure it was in this thread red wrinkle paint is at repco, its about $7 more than black
  15. from what i recall from beetles, was that the plates stick with the chassis, the body is just accessories in any case, the age of the car will probably work in your favour. the chassis code in my brothers landcrab was stamped by hand all out of kilter
  16. had a bit of a fiddle today and ordered some oldtime braided rubber hose for the clutch. Has been starting first pop every time (now that i have the knack) and running like a dream. There is a choke and throttle control inside the cab, so you can set and forget while she warms up. Not to mention fully equipped with automatic spark adjustment, so no further driver input is required, other than a full tank of gas. The joys of modern motoring. The kingpins were actually replaced not very many miles ago, as with pretty much everything else suspension related
  17. Plans are: keep her tidy Drive every day If the engine doesnt want to play anymore (from what i can work out it is the original - i have 5 note books full of history, thoughts and tips) possible diesel conversion, as i have a nice list of things that "should" fit with little hassle. Or if i found a 6 cylinder model i would like the lump from that. However, these chrome bore flatheads were built to last forever, and this one seems to be doing just that. I came away with a tray load of parts. All are cleaned, identified, and general condition noted. Have put the wooden side boards on (also have a set of hungry boards/stock boards as this truck started as a farm truck, then as a hedge trimmers truck) and put the visor back on. Work wise shes pretty much 'done', the only things of note are to replace a line from an oiler to the clutch bearing and the left rear hub will need a speedy sleeve, but only just. Possibly skim the spare head i have to make up for using todays gas (interestingly its noted in the history that this occured right when the good old stuff was phased out). It would also be nice to find a wellside for this, but the chances of that are slim to none. Really i love it for what it is, its slow, old and requires alot of unusual by todays standards upkeep - turned your greaser for the water pump lately?, how about primed the carb with a manual pump in the mornings?
  18. Yea i am keeping mine all standard, i like to live dangerously
  19. ahh ok, i am about to do just that. you would have swapped to 4x4inch all round with the van brakes
  20. what are those wheels you have on it? thats just what im after
  21. you are a keen man, a keen man i say plans?
