Here's the one we had, after I dragged it out of the paddock. Must have had a 1/2 million km on it by then. And given death around the paddock a fair bit.

Did you know QLD has no regular roadworthy inspections? How can it be that the fatality rate there is lower than in NZ?

I wonder if LTNZ (or whoever is in charge) did the numbers in terms of accidents caused by mechanical faults (or WOF inspection fail) vs vehicle age for vehicle less than 3 years old, vs 2000~, vs pre-2000 vs 40 year old + (as per rego reduction)? also vs total mileage.
i assume the former would give roughly bell curve, the latter exponential.
From here

The main issue is that the law must cater to the lowest common denominator. We simply can't alow an unknown vehicle into the road with only a wof check even if OP had spent 20k on floor mats because some other winner in a clapped our skyline will wrap his car around a preschool because it's steering rack was tack welded to the subframe and all the stripped bolts were glued in place, undersealed and dirt rubbed into it.
Thing is, this can still happen with the no wof no worries crowd.
A bit like the speed limit debate.
To me the question is, is the current level of rules appropriate? My reckons are...
For lvvta cert, yeah,
For repair cert, maybe that could be easier on older cars (might be already).
For WOF, should be 1 year after the first 3 years, then no WOF over 40.

In that case they should bring them in to reduce the pool of people who would buy an MG5.

A friend of mines old man pretty much told me to suck it up and pull the motor and he's got a guy that'll hone/plane/sort the block n head, so will get that under way if I don't find a like for like replacement soon.
How did I end up rebuilding this bloody motor
Good advice I reckon.

Body painted, trunk and hood should have been done today. Popped up the road and collected the rear bumper and other parts from the panel shop. Plan is to be all back together for the Beach Hop.
