  1. Cones probably protect the headlight adjustment screws from dirt and gunk thrown up by the wheels.
  2. Oh bummer. Hope it's nothing serious.
  3. Looking very nice @Bling. Cert check is always a nervous time, seems like you have the issues sorted out now.
  4. Nope, accommodation and other reasons. Will be there in March 2023 though.
  5. Probably modern petrol causing trouble. Reminds me of the time I first went to OS Nats and the float valve stuck open in the carpark at Bulls. I think I was with @- i5oogt - and when I opened the bonnet the whole intake V was swimming in petrol. Bit scary.
  6. Got this out of the chicken shed last weekend, WOF expired in March. Noticed that the accelerator pump was leaking quite a bit, seemed to be worse than it was previously, dripping on to the inlet manifold. I had a rebuild kit for a 4-barrel Autolite carb that I might install one day, instead of the 2-barrel that is on there now. It's a pretty easy piece to access so I pulled it off The replacement diaphragm in the kit has two pieces (a separate pushrod) compared to the one in the carb. I ended up using the cover from the 4-barrel as well as the shaft seal seemed to be leaking on the 2-barrel one. Also cleaned up and repainted the air cleaner lid. Don't want to get too carried away in the engine bay though. Might be a bit easier to cold start now with a better accelerator pump, it used to take heaps of pumping to get some gas down the carb when cold. Next is sorting a WOF check.
  7. Agree. For the extra $1500 it seems worth it.
  8. All off now, bit faster on the second side as I knew what I was doing. There's a fair bit of sticky sealer on the body side, not sure that all that is necessary, will do some research before it goes back together. First side has been been stripped using a heat gun and given an initial DA sanding. I need to go over them again and check the details, then go down a couple of grit levels to 240 or so.
  9. I bought a home made one, built from angle iron. It had been built with air cylinders for clamping, but they were rubbish - not enough force - so I converted it to bolt clamping. Was sort-of OK, but I got rid of it when I bought an old cast iron folder. It's not fabulous, but works OK if I tighten the clamping nuts down.
  10. Current state of play. Might have got more done if hadn't picked up the coof last weekend.
  11. The panels are held on by bolts/machine screws that do into the blind nuts with the stainless covers. Had to remove the spare bracket and the taillights from the tailgate. I found some extra screws that were holding the panel on after pulling a couple through the steel panel, oops The panels are held on by a billion screws, luckily not glued (or at least not much) as well
  12. When the 49 was put together about 15 years ago the veneer panels were quite a bit darker (pic found on flickr, dunno what happened to that roofrack) The have faded now to tone in with the maple framing - pic from Turangi at Labour Weekend Also the clear finish on the wood was starting to break down at joins and on the panels themselves My guess it that is 2K automotive clear coat, although I'm not 100% sure. While durable this doesn't suit spot touch ups or overcoating when tatty. The only way to deal with it is stripping right back to bare wood and starting over. So, after getting back on Monday....
  13. Another drive-by that's probably not worth replying to? Any swap is going to be a lot of work and $$, and probably not worth it.
