Yeah Nah

I got plenty for the prize table.

Full repaint, didn't seem to be much point otherwise given the scope of repairs, and the bonnet has never matched exactly (had it repainted in the USA when we first got the car as it was burnt from the engine air-cleaner fire) Going for the same colour, nothing too fancy. Somewhat tempted by these plates on TM, but wif probably wouldn't approve.

I bought one of these a few years ago, seems to work fine for me. Only 180A but I mostly do light gauge stuff anyway. Think it was about 1k back then, now $1500 incl. BOC Smootharc 181 MIG Welder | BOC Gas

Any action @kicker?

A bit over 6 years since it came apart. I bolted the front suspension back together without many dramas Put the steering back in Enlisted a helper to tighten up the caliper mounts And moved it! Out of the garage then winched back onto the lift. Will drop the engine/box back in before fagnats hopefully.

Some plastics respond well to waft over from a butane torch. Probably best to test it on a spare part, or the back or something first. e.g.

It's probably more now, and extra for the electrogalv/zintec type, and delivery but likely affordable. The plain cold rolled does rust, I spray it with crc to keep that in check.

Last time I bought a full sheet of 1mm cold rolled it was $65+gst. That was in 2021.

15 years is a long time - good effort getting it done!

Well done on getting it back on the road - it's not any easy process to get there.

Yep, been a while. -
Annual-ish update? I need to get this at least rolling to move it. Bought some new lower ball joints - I think the reason the old ones crapped out is that the come with no grease in them (facepalm) Managed to break a 1" chinese cast press plate using my 10 ton chinese press when trying to get the second one together. It was a bit out of alignment, so probably exceeded the point loading. Visited a friend to straighten up the press tool, then used his press to jam it together. Went in easily. Hope I can remember what goes where, it's been a few years

Went for a drive on Christmas Day with the famdamily, then next time I drove it there was a funny noise. Stopped up the road and had a peek underneath Hmm Maybe the U-bolts weren't as tight as the could be? Anyway got it back into place without too much trouble, and made up an extra clamp for each side. Put them up this way to avoid the handbrake cables, I need to get some longer bolts I suppose.

SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS FOR VIVA CONVERSION
Nominal replied to La Viva 71's topic in Project Discussion
Really, unless you are very attached to that particular car or have some skills in engine swapping, it would be better to look for one that already has one of the bigger engines. -

Something like a Datsun A15 engine/box would be easy (if they haven't all been used up in ministocks). Simple engines, 1500cc so better than the 1159 for sure, and probably wouldn't cost too much overall.
