  1. Cool, looking forward to some more exhaust tech. I'm using this car as trial and error for what I want to do on my exhaust by the time you get it sorted I will just be able to apply 2 litre principals (making less power than your 1600) and do something similar without it melting hopefully
  2. Just got the results email. Well done Keegan and Steve in particular. You guys did awesomely well! Everyone else just did awesome for making the effort to attend on such a crap morning. 34 Christo Strydom Toyota MR2 B N Y 25.06 21.74 34.27 35.90 53.21 35.76 205.94 1 100.00 1 87 Garth Uren Morris Mini A N Y 25.15 22.25 35.59 36.97 56.66 35.44 212.06 2 97.11 2 156 Keegan Downey Fiat Uno A N Y 26.92 21.09 35.22 38.68 56.11 40.27 218.29 3 94.34 3 128 Scott McIntosh Fiat 128 Turbo D N Y 26.96 23.95 41.13 39.07 56.81 34.63 222.55 4 92.54 4 4 Samuel Douglas Mazda MX5 C N Y 27.16 24.12 37.25 36.49 60.27 38.13 223.42 5 92.18 5 82 Steven Roskruge Toyota Corolla GT B N Y 29.38 25.59 40.10 41.20 53.96 36.66 226.89 6 90.77 6 35 David Middlemiss Peugeot 106 A N Y 27.94 23.43 38.06 39.06 60.03 38.69 227.21 7 90.64 7 555 Scott Runciman Subaru Legacy Blitzen D N Y 29.29 24.44 41.46 41.79 54.36 36.84 228.18 8 90.25 8 232 JJ Strydom Toyota MR2 B Y Y 26.33 34.43 35.27 43.32 50.61 39.53 229.49 9 89.74 9 100.00 1 50 Simon Mans Austin Mini Clubman A N Y 29.16 24.08 39.10 40.45 59.98 37.34 230.11 10 89.50 10 19 Bruce Clothier Toyota Starlet A N Y 28.72 23.53 45.59 38.70 58.77 35.74 231.05 11 89.13 11 20 Stacey James Fiat Tipo 16V C N Y 27.44 25.59 39.51 44.90 59.22 34.84 231.50 12 88.96 12 45 Graham Ball BMW E36 C N Y 27.31 25.01 38.99 41.51 64.87 34.54 232.23 13 88.68 13 999 Richard Sutherland BMW E30 325iM D N Y 29.04 24.06 39.36 42.20 58.83 38.99 232.48 14 88.58 14 222 Brandon Heinrich Suzuki Swift Sport B N Y 28.64 21.08 38.04 40.59 62.99 42.34 233.68 15 88.13 15 256 Mark Burrows Fiat Uno A N Y 28.74 21.41 39.15 37.90 60.02 46.97 234.19 16 87.94 16 205 Heath Simone Peugeot 205GTI C N Y 28.27 24.76 38.70 38.11 73.02 31.62 234.48 17 87.83 17 303 James Watson Toyota MR2 C N Y 29.24 31.56 38.66 38.84 59.31 37.73 235.34 18 87.51 18 83 Julie Mitchell Toyota Trueno B N Y 30.81 23.36 43.10 42.13 61.02 41.44 241.86 19 85.15 19 56 Ken Brown Mazda MX5 C N Y 29.83 25.50 39.88 46.81 61.21 40.34 243.57 20 84.55 20 111 Jonathan Green Fiat Strada Abarth C N Y 29.93 24.81 41.45 43.95 61.46 44.46 246.06 21 83.70 21 5 Nicholas Holthuisen Nissan Skyline R32 D Y Y 30.10 26.56 44.23 41.23 65.13 39.87 247.12 22 83.34 22 92.87 2 16 Shane Tinkler Ford Escort Sport B N Y 27.10 23.42 44.00 51.98 67.45 36.34 250.29 23 82.28 23 38 Glenys Middlemiss Leyland Mini A N Y 28.19 24.34 42.43 43.37 64.74 48.47 251.54 24 81.87 24 12 Max Chambers Ford Escort D Y 28.59 25.78 49.41 46.09 62.69 42.70 255.26 25 80.68 25 88 Brent Shaw Mazda RX-7 D N Y 31.42 41.27 44.60 45.55 59.43 38.42 260.69 26 79.00 26 90 Rhys Thomas Toyota Levin B N Y 36.04 24.31 45.79 51.02 96.42 38.76 292.34 27 70.45 27 11 Josh Martin Toyota Starlet B Y Y 32.76 30.17 57.54 67.77 77.61 56.50 322.35 28 63.89 28 71.19 3 3 Dale Buckley Toyota Corolla Black D N Y 29.10 24.49 39.92 39.98 111.42 78.47 323.38 29 63.68 29 177 Johan van Rensburg Toyota Corolla B N Y 29.61 23.45 45.86 48.05 111.42 78.47 336.86 30 61.14 30 206 Gavin Williams Peugeot 206GTI C N Y 27.21 20.87 72.54 82.77 111.42 78.47 393.28 31 52.36 31 85 Richard Selby Toyota Corolla Levin B N Y 31.07 29.92 87.54 82.77 111.42 78.47 421.19 32 48.89 32
  3. To check bearings jack it up with the wheels on and once it's on axle stands and safe pull it out of gear. Then get someone to spin the wheel while you lie underneath with a power bar or something touching the diff housing (if you're doing the rear) up to your ear. If you do both sides you should be able to tell if one side has a fucked bearing, as it will sound rough while the other side should sound cleaner. May not work if the diff is crap too.
  4. What time are first cars heading out? I might aim to be there for spectator-ness by 9
  5. Are the sedan diffs easier to get hold of? Surely wouldn't be a major to change the shock mounts on a sedan diff or just upright the shocks and run them short?
  6. Way to make a point though. Full face wheels look so sweet when in the right offset. Do that but in 15".
  7. Well yeah, from past experience it took 3 days to get from UK to Auckland and 3 weeks to get through customs and make its way from Auckland to Hamilton... But either way, the car can't go far without a pedal box, so I'll just wait patiently until it's here.
  8. Are any of those things still on their way from the other side of the world?
  9. glue it to the roof? I was planning on making this, but still have parts coming in from UK, so won't have enough time to stitch it all together. Aiming for the second event instead. Fingers crossed.
  10. What roll bar are you getting, or is it custom?
  11. This twin exit looks pretty sweet IMO. I'll try and get a better pic of it if you're still keen on the idea. It does tuck the exhaust up out of the way nicely for lowering and there is heaps of room in there for a muffler at the back too - it sounds good. Lowering is obviously next on the list for this thing too.
  12. I suppose putting the cage in would also add quite a bit of weight to the rear of the car.
  13. man you talk some crap Brent, when you weigh the car at the track is it with corner weights? How do these cars balance up? I imagine there'd be a little bit of time in getting it as close to 25% on each corner as possible, which probably wouldn't be too hard if you are already under the minimum weight and haven't even removed glass or cut up the hatch. You could pull some weight out of the body of the car, then remove as much weight out of the front and add ballast low and towards the back of the car.
  14. Diesel alternator with a vac pump sounds big and heavy, even if it is under driven and not drawing too much from the motor. Last resort if plan A doesn't work I reckon. You've inspired me and I'm currently doing something similar with my car right now. Just need to make up an adaptor to bolt master in place of booster and we'll be away. I'm just going to have it actuating from as high up the pedal as I can and hope it gives an ok pedal feel.
  15. 6 Months of motoring for $2k and a weekend is almost worth it though, as opposed to 2 years off the road while you save the $10k+ required to "do it the right way" and then lose motorvation and never get it back on the road at all.
  16. Oh shit, miss read that and thought you were doing 1:20's around Manfeild. Don't mind me.. Have you found any sweet 2zz builds offshore to copy off? Probably best doing something tried and true, if people are playing with them elsewhere. Also, outboards make power everywhere, mid range and all not just top end.
  17. Just try it? I removed the servo/booster in my old chevette and found it way better. I ran a different master in there too, which I think was larger. Not sure which way that would have gone as far as heaviness, possibly made it easier on the pedal because you are moving a higher volume of fluid with each press of the pedal? Maybe it's the other way I can't be bothered thinking about it. Anyway, this will be a pretty light car and with the right ratio of master:slaves along with pedal pivot point as ten5 mentioned, you should have it working well. I was running into similar issues of running out of vacuum in my Vectra at the track. I was considering possibly running a vac accumulator tank with a 1 way valve to store the vacuum, but by the time you much around adding all that stuff it's probably easier to just go down the path you are.
  18. Awesome! As cliche as it is, I'm super keen to finally see a 2ZZ going into something. It's going to be pretty sweet in a 101. Some of those MR-S C52's have some kind of wacky sequential manual shift mechanism on them. Apparently they are slow and crap, but would be quite cool to see down the track whether you could get it working a bit better/faster. Pretty crazy how quick this thing is already. It's about the same as Markku's 86? With a bit of extra poke and a little bit less weight in the nose it could be proper quick once it's all setup right.
  19. Nice to see! Now, how long till you have it at a track?
  20. Daytonas pretty much the only option, other than blasta cars = meh.
  21. We kart then go get burgers or pub, so shush Maybe we could kart earlier, at like 6 or 6:30 because the last couple of times everyone has been waiting at the pub for us? /burger fuel is better
  22. Not a huge difference yet, but it's the scope it offers. Now I have the intake sorted I can do the exhaust and cams and open it right up, which should make a bit of a difference.Like durty says, it's just made it a bit louder at the moment, but still nothing special. Hopefully once I do the cams it should sing. Sweet! Always keen for eurotrash smack talk.
  23. Sweet as. Yeah, moving the attachment point higher on the vertical shaft should give it more throw. This is similar I think to what zep did. http://www.ozgemini....ic.php?p=187556
  24. No doubt you've looked at this, but it just seems like there is a bit of room behind that motor. Bearing in mind that it is a race car how much work would be required to sit the engine back another 50mm or so? The shifter relocation seems like a pretty cool idea though, so would be worth doing that as well. zep runs something similar in his Gemini, as the factory shifters come up quite far forward in these and have an ugly doglegged gearstick.
