For a long time I think simmons were considered the only 'quality' wheel you could get in 4x110. I know in my younger days of going to the nationals it was always 'wow simmons'. But yeh, that was my view, probably informed by car magazines from NZ and Aus having the show cars running simmons.
ROH had a couple of premium 3 piece designs I guess too, but yeh, cheaper, and easier available wheels were the hotwires/modgies, 1 piece roh/motoform.
Then adapters came out early 2000's and bam, 17's were easily available and then the sex-spec chromies came out too ...
Then the remake modgies started being sold around 2003/4 so those took off again.

I get the nostalgia but the Kiwi rotary scene is weird when it comes to wheels.
I think you summed it up perfectly there. It is a bit weird.
It used to be difficult to find 4x110 wheels, so the 90's I could understand being limited choice and the cars were cheap, so why bother changing stud patterns etc.
But now, we're talking expensive cars, 50-100k mazdas running cheap rims ...
Now the internet is easy to navigate and importing company's are easy to find. Plus heaps of rims can be changed from 4x114 to 4x110 to keep the mazda stud pattern.
But it's odd, people know what they know, I guess, it's 'the rotary thing' maybe ...
And mangel modgies & eagers will always be the ducks nuts.

Just gotta pay the cost to be the boss and be lazy, get Pine Eng to sort it all for you. Literally their website is a like a retail shop now, choose size, offset, stud pattern, colour etc.

Nostalgia at its finest. Is that a recent car or old photo?

Haven't seen the FB hate, but they're just wheels ... had modgies last week, Titans this week. I'm bugging him to put the titans on the other cars in his fleet and it'll replenish some pics for titan tuesdays.
Hopefully jap wheels will be on the cards one day too lol.

I def agree that the old girls that are being used on weekends and such like should have different rules to follow than daily drivers.

All of which is getting silly - simple rules for what should be a simple system.
Annual wof's for all cars.

I'm sure you've already had the thought - but what about a rougher unpainted bonnet to chop up? Or nah, send it.
