  1. I looked at doing similar in my mk1. Decided against it because of all the hassel. The amount of power out of one means youll have to do serios rear end work to get traction. Didnt want to fuck round with that. I did a pinto connversion. Cheap as and if you spend the money that youd use on an sr20 conversion youd be getting serious power. I dont know about the gearboxs being hard to find is all that true as you can just use a skyline box which im sure aint hard to find. Even if you did have an auto shell youd still need to cut the gearbox tunnel more tho. i got a whole lot of pics of a fj20 in an escort if u want them post me your email addy. Might come in handy.

    1600 Xflows

    Kelford have heaps and heaps of differant cam grinds for the 1600 kent. From standard to fast road to full race. They also can get in new pre ground Kelford cams to go straight in. Dont go with the GT grind, i had one in my 1600 and it is only just slightly higher lift than a standard grind (from memory). You can get the kents sounding damn lumpy witha nice cam, dont know bout sounding like a rotary tho

    Quaife is way to expensive for me, maybe quaife gears in the gearbox if i have trouble there later on but for now i dont need to spend that big. Yeah i heard bout the b1600 diffs being a bit narower but then i read into it and there is a smaller hilux diff, out of a pre 75. It is almost exactly the right size to bolt in bar the leaf hangers. Its actually skinnier than a standard escort. Would need small spacers to bring the wheels out to normal. But then again where the fuc* do i find a pre 75 hilux, i dont think iv ever seen one to know what they look like even. If someone's got one let me know, send a pic. Cheers

    yeah, does the & LSD head bolt in? They also come satndard with an LSD isn one model. hard as shit to find tho. Also im sure a 7 LSD wouldnt be cheap, im going for cheapest practical option as im not putting out heaps and heaps of power.

    Engine Running On

    I have had three ford motors in my escort now, the 1300 the 1600 and the 2000. They have all done it when not tuned right and the 2000 still does it (but that motor is fuct) I just wound the idle down slightly and retarded the timming a bit. Seemed to fix it with the 1300 and 1600. the 2l i dnt give a fuk bout so i just stall it. And yeah, it only does it when its hot in mine too. I always just turn it of just before you want to stop and roll to a stop. that way it just sounds normalish.

    have you done a hilux? can you tell me hwo you did it? From what i have found if i can find a pre 75 then it will bolt straight in, even the leaf holders are in the semi right place. BUT, i have tried to find one of these and even the wreakers say it is impossible. So i investigated the 75 onwards hilux diffs. I have decided a falcon diff is easier because. The hilux only comes in stupid ratios which are good for acceleration but to an extent. The hilux is alot more expensive to buy in the first place $800 for an LSD one. The hilux also costs more too shorten because the axles are cone shaped slightly which means cutting down to escort size is a mission because they wont line up again. All up for a hilux one brought and shortened estimate $1600 Maybe stronger than the falcon one i want to use but at the end of the day im thrown 200hp at it MAX, they both LSD, they both the same size, but the falcon is almost half the price and real easy to sourse. whats ya thoughts.

    yeah know all that s**t, actually it is quite reasuring that other people know that as most people thnk your talking shit if you say that porting can take you backwards with a pinto. I am aware of the porting but because of this not willing to try myself. yeah id need to have a chat to your mate i think RT.     you can always score the type9 5 speeds on trademe for under 100 I got a trailor of cortina/sierra bits of trade me a while bak. consisted of 1 compltee motor 1 block with fucked piston with sump and oil pick which i needed a 5 speed sierra a 4 speed cortina clutches and flywheels sierra radiator brand new sealed head gasket worth at least $80 and guess how much i paid for my little score a whole $50, yes $50, steal i thought.

    s**t $500 for round 800 you can buy and shorten a 8inch falcon LSD diff. Supose that is with doing a bit of work yourself. ok, well wont be looking for the Borg no more then.

    Is anyone here running a pinto 2l with the 1600 head. Also anyone had there head really ported. in the ways of 190cf. Where was this done and who did it. was it proven with a flow bench. any help would be good on heads and outcomes with what cams. cheers

    thats quite cheep for shock. i memba buying 2 munro ones for the frnt of my mk1. it was 390 with a big discount from repco. thats for 2.
  15. most of the euro cars have 4x108. new mondeos etc will. they have some alright mags. some of the rotary wheels will fit onto an escort depending on the center hole if it will fit over or not. usually the esky ones dont fit the rx's tho. hope this helps. try before you buy.
