It’s been a while since iv posted on here. I used to have a different user name but can’t get into that profile.
anyway I have bought a mk1 transit and know nothing about them, iv heard there may be a couple people hiding on here that know a bit more.
I feel I’m going to have a lot of questions as I get deeper into it.
first question is diff rations, it has been pinto swapped but had a factory diff. At 100kph sounds like the poor engine is nearly valve bouncing. What are the common diff swaps for these?Hey Hogan,
@Truenotch can probably reset your @427carguy password, and even change your username if you like.

Im coming although i might not make 12 bang on.

The 1600 is parked up in a garage.
521 is a 620. Thats in the garage here. Its awfully far along, but still not quite there yet.
I should probably start a thread for that.

I mostly finished it. Drove it. Sold it for more than it owed me and lived happily ever after. Got a cat named Spanners with 3 legs thats happy as. Fun fact the old photo of this 4dr 1200 wagon has the back end of my Blue 2dr Ke70 wagon in it.
I noticed that. Which would timestamp those pictures at around 07-08? Jennifer street days. That party when @datsunboy and @dattohorder ripped fat skids outside your house was a great evening. Truely a golden age........

A realible shortblock would easily lay waste to early jap nutters entire budget.
Yes there are some eye wateringly quick dorito drag cars. But short of winning lotto, ill never be able to afford another one. Let alone one that pushes hefty numbers.

Ive got a D21 Terrano diff still in the chassis that would be ok, disc brake rear.
These are an H230 no?
Not out of the question i guess. Were they coil or leaf rear?

Yeah my old RD28 Y30 has one, I got a R200 to swap the centre in but the seller was lying about it being an LSD and I lost all enthusiasm about doing it lol
The shortnose r200 lsds are viscous, and wont actually work as an lsd because there no extra spline on the tip of the axle to engage the viscous cartridge. The ute/4wd C200 LSDs are actually a clutch type unit. Although most are pretty well used, and i believe replacement clutches are NLA. (No doubt some anorak will pipe up to the contrary)

Probably Y30 on would have those, all my 430's a H190 - Ive got a D21 Terrano diff still in the chassis that would be ok, disc brake rear.
Karls is a y30. However i dont think he'll part with the diff from a running driving car. Lol

I should steal the one from @- i5oogt - cedric wagon!

My old kart hd some shonky pitch sprocket on the axle. The clutch sprocket was 3/8 ASA pitch. The bottom sproket was something else, but the ASA chain seemed to fit. (Well enough)

It got crashed in December, but a sledge hammer brought it back into spec
Tell them to try harder next time........

Yeah theyre pure shite based on Tori's descriptions.
Another cheaper option would be a C200. (Solid axle version of a shortnose R200) being 6 stud makes them pretty worthless.
Theyre a Salisbury rather than a banjo. And being fitted to diesel 4wd utes, they come in telephone number ratios. (I owned one for a short time, and i think it was a 4.6:1)

What does a big set of injectors cost now days?
Even turbo engine cores needing attention are getting cheap. (Gas cars are less common here than in straya)

Ive just been down an exploder diff rabbithole too. I saw one on marketplace for $750 the other day. The exploders have larger axles, and bigger axle tubes. Plus a disc rear from '95 on.
Bonus is that exploders seem to be owned by a certain demographic. Meaning there should be a steady flow of end of life vehicles to find a diff from.
Did that one you had the misfortune to work on die yet @tortron?

I should add, my personal collection of motors presently includes,
An RB30, and a SBM.
Pretty much the only you tube vids i watch are engine videos. If i lived in 'murca, then a junkyard LS (for $3-400) with a wuan war whistle would be a no brainer. Here the core alone is a few thousand dollars.
Much as i hate to admit it, Fords RB40DE+T offers a motor which can hold 600hp for an investment of around $2.5k. (Slamming a war whistle straight on a high milage engine is asking for heartache) obviously for a non roadgoing car, a powerglide makes all the sense for the transmission. Guys like John Farone runs 3000hp through one in his street driven valiant charger. (I bet theres fuck all original GM parts inside that box)

No that was Maggie. She was a used cat, and came with that name when we got her.
She was even more fluffy that oscar.

I forgot to include injectors in the first post too.

So some of your have seen my new project shitbox. (Which wont be getting worked on for a wee while yet) as its a blank canvas in terms of drivetrain, id like to start a discussion about the real world costs associated with building a fast car.
Engine aside, (theres eleventy billion "debates"on teh webs about which engine is "best") things like fuel system, Engine management, loom, turbo, intercooler, transmission/converter, diff etc.
All of these things are needed irespective of which donk is slung in the engine bay. Youtube is awash with videos of engines making massive power, many seemingly for not much money.
What are some real world costs to build a rocketship?
Discuss.

A long time ago just before either parked it up to go overseas, the speedo stopped working. I always thought it was the dodgy speedo drive I modified. Turns out it was the cable
Spend too much time wound off the end of the speedo?

That guy was @forced wasnt he?

Thanks Alex.
Without spamming up the actual build thread, heres the back story.
Our cat is elderly. She annoys me, and was never the favourite. (Other cat is long deceased) but she is a loved part of our family.
However her fur goes everywhere. If i take off my work clothes, and put on garage clothes, she'll lie on them and make them all hairy. And her fur collects in tufts all over the carpet/on my norsewear socks.
I dont want another cat.
I told her i bought another datsun. Theres a garage space at mums for it.
Obviously it looks like shit to a non car person. So she blew up and over reacted like a dick. Purely as an excuse to force her will of getting two kittens once Oscar finally falls off the perch. (Yes our girl cat has a boys name, thats another sharn)
Anyway,
I need to do a three hour mish to go pick it up. At this point, its finding a weekend where both the seller and i arent busy.
Then try and get a non rolling car off the trailer, and into the garage.
New years day 2023 i heled a friend move a datsun shell, and when i found the mechanical load limit of my once infallable guns i tore my bicep tendon. Subsequently ill be employing a greater degree of care/different methodology at that time.
I havent seen them, but the seller tells me the guy who tubbed it out also welded the bonnet and front gaurds together. With a veiw to making a tilt front.

GREAT SUCCESS!
Id rather be set on fire that own one of these. But theres something oddly satifying about this thread. You must be pretty stoked with the outcome!
You might say its a Stella effort!

The ones on the rear are what my kart ran when i was a kid/when it was first built. (When it ran a 3.5hp Kawaski) it was only 1wd. Once we smoked the first one, we ran ones like the front o the driven wheel. Brcause they are so soft, the 5hp shreaded them with ease.

-
Are those 4" wheels?
My old kart ran 4" tyres with a 5hp briggo.
It could wear a brand new tyre (like that ones on the front) down far enough to pop in less that one tank of gas.......
