  1. Just make reg cost $1000 more per year for all light vehicles as an average RUC's cost and remove all the RUC's/excise taxes except for heavy stuff, then everyone is back on the same level, then we can get back to figuring out whats actually cheapest to operate

  2. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/506914/changes-to-road-user-charges-will-see-ev-owners-paying-more-climate-expert-says

As an example, Hood compared two very similar cars: a new Kia Niro, non plug-in petrol/electric hybrid and the Kia Niro full EV.

She found that on the petrol version, the government collects $39 per 1000km in taxes, based on the car's fuel economy of 4.4litres per 100km and taxes of 89c a litre, including GST.

The fully electric vehicle pays more than $80 per 1000km in road user charges - twice as much as the like-for-like petrol vehicle, she calculated.

  3. I wish they put RUC's in the rego instead of having the separate RUC's, and took it as an average, paying RUC's as a separate thing is a pain in the ass. I just had to buy heaps for my transit after realising I was several thousand km over, if I had been checked by police during that time I would have been fined massively too

  4. I regularly drive 300+km after work on a friday in my model Y and its great. Only in really bad weather (or not charging battery fully the night before) do I occasionally need to stop to get more charge

A TS185 will do 130 kph, even more with a gutted TF125 expansion chamber

Lush, if I geared my DT correctly I could probably do that. TS185’s are cool though, it was my other choice when buying my DT

  6. my DT175 can almost hang at 100, I would recommend one of those, or a TS185. The TS is much more common too. It's so much fun to ride, and its easy to work on, plus its fairly capable offroad. Anything 2 stroke, 100cc+ would be great IMO.

    Also, 2 strokessssssssssssssss

  7. Just took DT for a wof check, dude tried failing me on fitting a complete new LED headlight to the bike, but on the nzta lighting page it specifically says "It is permitted to replace a complete halogen headlamp unit with a complete HID or LED headlamp unit. If the vehicle is required to meet an approved safety standard for headlamps, only approved headlamps can be retrofitted". man that shit makes my blood boil, will show him the text when I take the bike back. What a damn Weiner

Further checking shows that my bike doesnt even need an approved headlight, as its first reg 1980, even though my one is

Vehicles required to comply with an approved headlamp standard are:

    • vehicles of class MA and NA manufactured on or after 1 January 1992
    • vehicles of class MB, MC, MD1, MD2, MD3, MD4, ME, NB and NC manufactured on or after 1 January 1996.

Also, $60 for a wof these days, fuck me
