  1. I had a fiddle with the indicators last nite and found a broken cancelling cam so added one to rockauto cart. Pulled what’s left of the fuel tank out, totally roached. Even the sender is just a blob of rust! also found another 3 dead bees/wasps inside the steering column..it’s a sign it needs to be a super bee clone!
  2. More misery, yes that’s the front suspension mounts
  3. I’ll get photos of all the decals and stickers to keep you on song
  4. Fucking rad, thanks man! Variable wipers has me going
  5. Cheers! It looks like you could order any hood you wanted and change the badge. I’m yet to decode and see what it was supposed to have. The pinstripes are LOL but old and aged, probably 80s mod. yea same green, green interior and a green vinyl top! Nice colour but there’s so many wild factory colour codes to choose from! Shame the tag is so rusty it’s a struggle http://www.mymopar.com/6971opcodes.htm
  6. Oh no shit? That’s rad! The mrs was pretty impressed.
  7. Same! But if it keeps getting relegated to the back of the Line then maybe it’s not for me after all. I’ll buy lotto and if I win I’ll keep it stored, lol.
  8. I brought a bucket-list car! With money to burn from the Datsun 1200 sale, I was watching the market like a hawk. Lots of O.K stuff, lots of stuff that’s 5k darer than it should be, nothing really grabbed me. I had a flurry on a 180b SSS but timing was crook, I looked at the black Chrysler Windsor sedan on trademe with lust (should have got that one perhaps!). We spend 3.5 days at muscle car madness every year and I knew there had to be something interesting for sale out there. there wasn’t. on Saturday morning I spotted an auction for this 1970 coronet, freshly imported, in the South Island, only a wee bit above budget. Should I whack on a bid as a placeholder until the weekend was over and risk a bidding war that blew the budget totally? I asked some questions and never got a reply. I was erect. I scurried round the show and parking lot and couldnt see anything I needed. the ad looked to be written by an excited 10yr old. Spelling mistakes, grammar, murdered punctuation, rambling. It had it all. Through all the Fuckery and the new headache I’d got from re-reading the auction I decided I can fix anything and I can buy practically everything it needed brand new. I hit buy now on the Mopar Long painful story short the guy was in his own world, wouldn’t tell me where to send the transporter to collect, and had it in his mind his mate would do it for 3x what a truck costs me. eventually to make it all go away I said if you can do it for half price and deliver it Sunday I’ll do it. he arrived at 9pm on Saturday night, unloaded it and took the battery home. Rad, thanks. Also forgot the paperwork which is crucial for compliance. I managed to find the American for-sale advert during the week.. Oh my, it didn’t look anything like it does in the trademe shots. Thankful I did as it shows what’s hidden..And had some cool spares in the boot and ‘cuda Steels. (These never came to me, not a single spare part, who knows where they ended up) arrived on shithouse wheels with a flat tyre and the wrong wheelnuts. https://classiccarsbay.com/for-sale-1970-dodge-coronet-in-knightstown-indiana-319 we found the video he mentions, Cheered me up to hear it run nicely. Anyway, once he’d gone I had a poke around with the torch and my heart sank, it looked like a total sack of shit but still choice looking! To save a heap of uploads, here’s a link to the album. https://imgur.com/a/fDejyvy I got it into the shed and had a decent look about, so much misery. the ass end is fucked. There’s a block of wood in the boot to help keep the leaf spring from pushing through the bootlid. There’s a 2inch stagger where the other chassis rail has rusted through and moved. it’s ok, I can & will get all the rails and pans n shit and get it repair certed and complied. It will be worth quite a lot when done. I had hoped to have it mobile in a month or 2 and be driving daily as I don’t currently have my own wheels. this ain’t happening, it needs all bushes and joints and mounts and seat belts and likely a bunch of other stuff unforeseen. The only recent components on it are carb, dizzy cap and rotor! it starts and runs lovely, sounds grouse, moves around well but no brakes at all, and cause the fuel tank is now a can in the enginebay I can’t really test drive. Interior isn’t bad, I can live with it for a while. Needs a grant-style steering wheel though! ..so here begins another fucking rusty resto. stay tuned while I survive on noodles and prison wine + sell everything I don’t need to fund the B-Body dream! DISCUSS
  9. Thanks uncle eddy! yeah the bloke seemed pretty happy, he used to have a coupe 10+ years back. as for the escort.. it might be for sale, I blew all my money on another project instantly...
  10. Warrant looming again soon, been watching this bubble in the corner growing. Today was the day. The inner was pretty heavily pitted so whacked a quick easy patch in happy with that. another wee hole up top, I’ve never had this trim piece off this lower guard blew out when I did the first repairs on the inner side when we got the car. I never bothered doing it justice cause I thought I’d replace the whole bottom one day. Still on board with this thinking so cleaned up, rust converted and slammed a patch in. It would have simmered away slowly over a few years but the wag lives outside so fast-forwarded the rust
  11. Added a piece of trim that came with the car but was shit to attach so I put it off for ages, then painted that and the handles. also tinted the front and rear indicators.
  12. Sold! here’s the last 2 photos I had, one showing the dyed seats.
  13. Last weekend it went back together and it’s good to be back dailying. The roof lining took so long + all my patience, doing a part then glueing clamping and leaving it.. Sealing the screens in was pretty frustrating, rubbers went a bit wonky in places/inconsistent shape/mess etc. headlining in, different drivers seat with way less tears (matching passengers is coming)
  14. Done! went pretty well in all. Got it smooth enough to not want to bother cutting and polishing. again, it looks exactly the same as before so these pics are just to show it happened, lol. got the stainless trims into the rubbers too, The front bottom piece was a total cunt, had to get the mrs to help.. Longest of them all and curved each end so it kept trying to pop out when it came under tension. And the force needed to push it in was more than needed to fold it in half in an instant so it was a nail biter. Simpson gave me an original boot mat, one side is yuck but overall tidy. I recently ditched the MDF sheet I was using because it rattled so it’s a welcome addition. Pining to fit the new headlining and goo in the screens
  15. all ready to go again bar sanding spot putty, good weather + energy.
  16. Had been planning to use labour weekend to get amongst this again. needs: - fix cracked bog in C pillar - Fit new headlining - fit stainless trim to screen rubbers and finally seal them in. - inspect rust bubbles in lower A pillar jambs and rear wheel arch - paint jambs and inside boot lid Can see where I buzzed back the bog on pillar. Begrudgingly Went and got a tin of newtech to use as lead replacement. I hate the shit but it’s the norm. trigger contact spring In welder hand-piece snapped and went a bit ugly haywire Hoped I could just wire wheel it and rust kill. Nope then etched, bogged and primed. Started to mask it up.
  17. I failed to take after photos, but that’s the FIRST coat on the floor. She’s safe for ages now. Wasn’t Really crusty but wasn’t really protected if you know what I mean. peeled back the best bonnet yesterday and epoxy etched it today. forget how big they are when they are off the car. will chuck it on and leave it black for a while cause I’m a dirtbag. also finally got some proper coil spring spacers. 10mm nolathane ones, whipped them in yesterday and although I haven’t driven it I think I’ll be happy with where it will end up sitting.
  18. I jumped in on some free powdercoating and had the Silvia and falcon (rear) covers done after I sandblasted them. came out great! Decided to chuck them together for a pine and realised they dont clear the calipers (need to trim back the curved edges but not a lot) and since it’s got larger discs, they sit hard up against them too! c.l.e.v.e.r. B.o.y Live and learn didn’t realise the discs were murdered out, it’s cool but was expecting nice clean raw look lol.
  19. Classic! Can’t polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter ;- )
  20. It drives really nice now and brakes are epic. Who would have thought. The tidy bonnet is lovely. The top needs wheeled back and etched but its bloody good to be fair. Next phase is reset the leaves 2in. Have ordered new bushes for these, and some lower control arm bushes so then the whole front is lush and ready for another wheel alignment
  21. The yellow bonnet wasnt flash in person, the skin is mint but the frame has rusted away around the whole front edge and down the sides some..so it flaps within its self. It’s fixable but I’m not interested right now. i ended up winning the auction for the tidy-as one so will get it this weekend. i had an unholy cunt of a time trying to get the pitman arm off. Broke my pitman puller and several tools along the way, rooted my jack handle from wailing on it with a hammer trying to bash it off the spline. The go was taking the whole drag link off which frees up half the battle and some tension I guess, brought a new puller and introduced more heat and it slid off. Then a bad part number crossover Means the new one turned out to be for a powersteer model, no bueno. Deep breath. saga. Idler arm was easy as, a joy almost. Bottom ball joints.. one was aftermarket so was bolt on, pretty easy. The other side was factory and has fucking great Steel rivets holding it on. Much drilling, grinding, bashing and swears later in a tight spot it started to move but wasn’t pining. Turns out there’s two spotwelds holding the cast part to the bottom arm.. lovely. In the mean time the cable tie holding by the hub and brakes up out of the way snapped and crushed my wrist, so that was cool. Also burnt a finger unexpectedly on a hot drill bit. won in the end but pretty worse for wear. The wheel cylinder for the lame side was fully frozen so binned that and got another set.. ive done one side, the other can wait. Fanged some hose clamps on fuel line too. There was no chance of leakage cause I could barely pull the line off but it does look safer. And a recycled picture So you dont feel too ripped off after reading this shit
  22. Bugger all use In the last 6 months due to it living outside and being unsavoury To defrost/demist on the Colder mornings meant i was a bit surprised it needed another warrant this week! She passed but it needs love, so now I have a new pitman arm, idler arm and lower ball joints to install. I was kinda putting this off because I’d planned to convert it all to power steer (hard parts differ) but never really saw anything promising pop up in the market so have flagged that for now. Also want to put a urethane isolator ring on the coils to lift the front a little as it scrubs a lot. Need to put some clamps on some fuel lines, buzz up a hole in the muffler and see why rear brake is dragging on one side. All pretty straight forward! Since last update I had a go at repairing the bonnet.. the leading edge had cracked. When sanded back I found that some weapon has put a new front on and only welded about 1/3 of it. Their welds on the swapped portion of frame We’re shit too and breaking so gave it all a fizz along with trim holes in bonnet and guards.. it’s still shit and doesn’t sit nicely. Bonnets are rare in good nick for the XD and I didn’t want to spend ~$350 for a goodun...then one appears locally for $25 start no reserve! I won that un-rivalled and will collect tomorrow. Its missing some frame and has crust but much much more workable. The morning I won that another appears in the city and it’s in great shape but paint stripped and has pin dents in places. Someone else is bidding but if it stays reasonable I’ll try get that too and run instead. ..almost a picture less update and we can’t have that, so here’s crummy pics. (the gaps in bonnet are about 6-8mm) and a lockdown pic while I was doing a bit of everything and cycling between jobs.
  23. Still enjoying trouble free daily motoring. finally did the shock bushes commented on the last warrant sheet. they look like they were cut on angles in the dark with a hacksaw! bit ashamed I didn’t notice when I did the diff swap. Or did i conveniently note it and forget?
