  1. First drive today! Only just couple of gears and not too much throttle. looking for noises vibrations. etc. Cant go too nuts until i get the breather out of the way of the exhaust. Sounds great, will share some engine sounds, tomorrow will be picking up and bringing her home Exhaust leak fixed, VBand tightened & internal loose baffle sorted. Intake now plumbed up and custom intake pipe now has a nice hose for the rocker cover breather. Steering is super heavy have made a mistake with using a quick rack and using the short power steering AE86 steering knuckles, will drop the standard knuckles on and see how that is they are 20mm longer so will require less turning force. Drive-able as is but noticeably heavy steering at low speed. Brakes are like toggle switches, very strong. Have to adjust the uptake as it has about 1" of travel before engaging which is a little odd feeling. HD clutch feels good, driveable and not like a toggle switch. Soooo happy its getting there! New Wilwood brake cable kit turned up today. Will fit the rear drums properly and can be sorted for length correctly. Still waiting on a EOL resistor for the Canbus & couple of sensors, oil and fuel pressure. Ordered a pair of Mk1 1300 escort springs from UK should be here in next however many more days(!) or so, standard height 220lb for the rear, 145lb (standard rate) is too soft i found, not sure how guys are running 145lb on these.
  2. VTec set to come in at 5000 RPM instead of factory 6000 or so, peak torque boost, thankyou Honda engineers u r awesome. I think it outputs more ATW than my stock 04 WRX did.
  3. So most of the electrics are done, few niggly things left, looking to change to AIM dash maybe since it has icons for road use etc. Speed sensor input not working on haltech, waiting on oil and fuel pressure sensors. LiFePo4 Battery died on second dyno run, replaced with AGM equivolent, what a pain, but should get it going. Will need to remake the battery holder again. Dyno Run has been completed. 156.4 RWKW/ 209 odd RWHP of NA goodness should propel this little rocket nicely. A whole lot of stuff to tidy up though... Steering is a bit stiff need to look at that when I get it back. Diff breather to be moved for right to clear exhaust. Still not driven it!
  4. Progress - Had to get a few more Racepak cables in, sorted now. Engine running (!!!) with default tune, electronic dash and PDM operational, found baffle in muffler is loose so needs to be replaced, no major issues identified with plumbing. Waiting on fuel and oil pressure sensors and terminating CAN resistor. All default car functions hooked up to PDM. Still to do Air con wiring. Considering swapping out to AIM dash which is more street oriented with built in LEDs for all street functions. Will see, that dash looks a bit more modern than the IQ3.
  5. Mechanically mostly plumbed up now: Delivered for wiring today:
  6. Fascinating brilliant to know! Keep up your excellent work. How much does a complete engine weigh?
  7. Apologies if youve been already asked but, is it not economic to just 3D print the metal parts? so much time making those molds i bet.
  8. Prepped and used black Por-15 then assembled the column ready for fitting back into the car today. New bearings were installed. No movement now after hot glue.
  9. Fixed that issue with pic #2! 350mm was not able to locate the smaller one new.
  10. Very nice mate, i do like the zinc plating and clear bead blasted gearbox. You’ve given me inspirations
  11. Took some pics of front end as is, Custom front cross member, custom adjustable length T3 lower control arms, all hiem jointed. Harsh but accurate!
  12. Pulled the column apart, baked the two shafts at 160 for 20 mins to heat up for hot glue so we remove movement yet preserve the breakaway of collapsible column. Channels already in place for this purpose from factory looks to have had hard plastic injected. Also the holes are from factory for injecting it. Before stripping for painting: Fan grill at 160! Channels for hot glue, marked position before taking apart: This will tighten up the movement in steering by abut 6 mm on steering wheel, it felt quite disconnected without the plastic in place.
  13. haha welcome to hondota club. k20 has so much easy potential too. nice choice.
  14. Dang that axle popping, very lucky not to be hurt. Do you think it was vibration at speed that caused it to let go? or was it just unlucky timing, would have thought it would let go at low speed where there is max Torque? Excellent build love the setup. LOVE BEAMS
  15. Being an electrician, I hate wires and love software. Also it fitted with the Haltech plug and play + dash, it all talks together. I hope... Want the analogue stuff like fuel level feeding into it, fuel gets low ill restrict it to only 9k RPM to get to the gaser quickly, see all makes sense and totally practical.
  16. Modiction, Anvil 2. Plain gear knob, well made. Dug this out last night from my Aus boxes. Weighted at 400g. Reviewed well, and i can confirm it is a great paper weight. Will see soon... Sits low on the stick for the shortened effect.
  17. Yes you're right, good engine from memory for what they were, way ahead of their time with the 5 speed.
  18. Speedfactor have fitted the SW20 seats. Ecstatic. As low as they can go.. Scuff i thought was damage but some brake cleaner took the goo off after this pic was taken. Thanks Bradley! SW20 brackets were re positioned and old crusty TA22 ones are gone completely. Interior will be fully black and only factory chrome where we have it now when complete. This gets her one step closer to rollin.
  19. re-chromed rear bumper when in Aus, and also picked up a rechromed bumper for the front while there too. Both ends as new and have 1 spare front for that inadvertent fender bender.
  20. Fuel filter mounted under car, bash plate to come. Can see new gearbox cross member, fit for purpose. Also had 1 piece tail shaft made up to marrying the 6 speed to the hilux diff. Safety loop is on the list.
  21. Decent pic of the backend setup. Found rubbers for the Heim Joints to keep out as much dust as possible out of the US. Have one end Heim other end Nolothane to try and keep the noise down. Brakeline on right caliper has been moved as it was snagging the body, also breather on diff has been shifted to other side to ensure clearance to the pops and bangs pipe. Advantech Industrial PC I found best use of - wheel chock... everyone should have one.
  22. Have sent my front driver side seatbelt setup to www.seatbeltsales.co.nz today for re manufacturing or replacement whatever works for both sides. Original is old and ciggy damaged in one place so not going to pass cert.
  23. Planned electrics: Racepak Smartwire Power Control Module, this will be my fuse box and PLC all in one. It will do everything, switching timing and become the heart of my electronics. Also have chosen a Haltech S2000 engine management, digital dash, this is ready to bolt on, not too far from getting the celica to the auto lecy to wire it all up, sort the Aircon out and then some dyno time. O2 sensor kit for the Haltech in my jank somewhere. 4500RPM VTEC and flat change will be in order.
