Correct, belonged to the Sheehan family in Wanaka for many years, their kids both went to the winter Olympics for skiing, no doubt that car played a big part in taking them up the hill.

I used to live on the same road, their dog would wander up to our place to sleep on the couch, Mark would come up looking for the dog and also park on the couch, often talking about surfing on the west coast, that car has lived a life of adventure, don't stop!

Found a Mark Sheehan on FB, whose profile which looks exactly like the type of person you descibe above.... so sent a message :D

    fingers crossed haha

  2. Geezzz.... its been a while since I updated this, continuing to fix rust in a 6 monthly cycle, the visor got stolen off the car sitting in my front yard in CHC so have replaced that, found some wheels off an old rally car with flipped centres, had them repaired and painted, got some lowering springs and wound down the tortion bars, managed to make the cover pic of a FB haha -  based on the pic below - must have been talking about wrecks :D . The motor has been pretty tired for some time and i have been ummming and ahhhing about a rebuild vs some kind of late model replacement as conversion is pretty straight forward, I would love to diesel convert it but no real options that will work...easily.

Wish i had cleaned the wheels.....

Some haven't ridden long distances on Small Bikes and it shows. The fellas organising this trip have aced it more than once now - and as someone whos also organised long trips, people saying hey lets do this and this and this and this is annoying. Whilst it might be fun to do extra stuff, wrangling a group of excitable men on small bikes is a mission in itself without people disappearing to see random stuff along the way.

Just get an NBC110 and go do some mountain skids with cool people. Turn up with a bike, book some accommodation - they'll have the rest sorted.

nothing in the SI on Trademe, any other recomendations for a bare minimum bike on a budget?

    Are you even riding?

I don't consider it worth the extra hour or more and estimated 60+km to an already 9 hour 345km ride

Trust me, I looked into it

Altho i dont have suitable transport (yet...something might pop up with the right price point that would do 75KMs/hr), i wouldnt rule a trip out and if i was going on a big roady (similar to this or nats) then id like to hit as many cool spots/things as possible.

I have a blow thru turbo A15 setup in mine. Goes really well for what it is. Will be going efi some stage though. I think the single point injection setup above would be the best way to doing it on a budget. Ive seen an old falcons single point injection unit used too.

any pics etc on the setup?
