  1. Went through the boot today, found a few gaskets and other bits and pieces i had stashed over the years. Removed the carpet and ran a screwstick around the seams before waving the vacuum around and looking for speedholes. Worse than i thought but still not as bad as it could be. Yet. Still need to remove lights and bumper to get a better idea. Soaking all nuts and bolts with crc before i start that fight.
  2. Went for quick drive up the road to turn it around, some more crud got in the fuel line and got some big leanpops during the 'u-turn'... fuel system is all getting redone so not too stressed. 3 year old fuel in a 43yr old tank was never going to run perfect. But it fits.
  3. Yeah i just did the satin black version on forza, looked better in my head. So oe spec it is. Looks much better irl too. Going for a quick shakedown run today, need to turn it around so may as well go up n down the street a few times to shake the last cobwebs off.
  4. Colourscheme ideas for when body is finished.... Back to oe spec colour and vinyl roof was the gameplan. But part of me thinks that satin black body, no trim strip, black vinyl roof. Gloss black bumpers and cragars. Chrome around front and rear screens, and gutter channel chrome, would look choice. Throw some ideas at me fellas.
  5. But closer inspection shows the truth... best i look at that bumper tomorrow, hope it is just a lump of shit on there and not a hole.
  6. Shed reshuffle all done, selfpriming fuel pump needed help so got an old fashioned shanghai suck and spit, one mouthfull later i had a running car. quick wash to get the pollen and moss off, passes the 10 yard twilight test.
  7. Changed my mind about the shed, want car on the other side so i can still use lathe, grinders etc, and most importantly reach the stereo. So for todays mission i am reorganising the shelves and moving shit from side to side. Another crate of rubbish full already. Still not convinced it is all mine....
  8. Have head. Ports are far better design the ironhead currently fitted. Will price up options of bigger valves etc before i go too crazy on cleaning up the throats and reshaping chambers. also soooooo much lighter.
  9. Shed has been a mess for 4 years at least. Started as organised clutter then progressed to utter shambles. Took most of the weekend, and a few hours tonight. But it is nearly ready for car again. Done one trip to the dump already, have to take some waste oil/dirty fuel containers to work to empty out. And move a few things to the garden shed. Nearly have room for the tv too!
  10. 87da start of the part number so most likely XF. Any use to you? Missing ashtray and gear surround.
  11. Interesting. I should be using a 3.2mm nozzle at the most. Might have to bodgy something up and see.
  12. Compressors are always drained nightly at work and home, but the old beast has been very well oiled on the inside of the tank. Old pump nearly pushed more oil than air for years. I had planned on a ply frontage so clothes can't get close to the belts. I have had this little antlia running nonstop for 3 hours once, its warranty is long gone but i can't justify buying a new compressor until it dies. So will keep on trying to make things work better, in the short term at least. I have a fucking old 3hp single phase motor i have considered hooking to a new 2cylinder pump if i managed to get the old tank. But that is more toy money than i can spare at the moment.
  13. Some great ideas here fellas. I have a benchtop side loader that i use, for the 15 seconds at a time when my 20l compressor has enough charge to pick up the sand haha. Have my old falcon lpg tank i plan to drain/wash, to turn into an auxilliary holding tank. There is also the old 50's workshop compressor tank at work i want to get off the boss. Add some wheels to the legs it already has and mount the blaster on top of it. Must be 300l on its own.
  14. Bit ugly but joints are good and yoke should clean up with some wetndry. Shit is getting harder to find so grabbed this as soon the diff seller said he had a matching driveshaft, i didn't ask if it was any good just said how much, it was free so yeah mint!
  15. Week off for school holidays, going to try clean up and paint the driveshaft for the 3.45 diff. It is in a very sad state currently. Pic of it here somewhere......
  16. Found an alloyhead, c2 casting so a bit small on the chamber size but will cc it first and doublecheck. Pics once i collect.
  17. Disappointed your not keeping the 6.... but v8s are fine i guess lol
  18. Both. Early like mine are iron. They made half a dozen different versions of the alloyhead from 1980ish to 1990. I think it is something rediculous like 40kg weight difference in the heads by memory.
  19. Yuck. Why would i want smooothness and easy starting? I am strictly in the no cert way of thinking.
  20. I have taken it to 6k a few times and it does it well enough but throws the waterpump belt any higher than that. If i ever get to drive it regular again i will add a deflector pulley or change the brackets around. The best way to get them to rev is put the 200ci rods in them with special pistons, but acl stopped making the pistons a decade or so ago. There is one guy in oz who takes his to 7500 on the strip but he has many years and mega cash in his motor. Sounds horny as with triple webbers on it though.
  21. Pretty much bang on there Cletus. Which is why i have gone for a vac sec instead of mech, aswell as the fact it cost a box of beers. I live 25km out of town so the 600 should give decent economy when cruising the open road while still giving enough fuel when enjoying a thrashing on the backroads. The 2 barrel 500 Holleys were designed for speedway cars as far as i know, fuel economy is not a factor for them nor is low rev driveability. If it was a 4barrel 500 i had on the car i would keep it, but it isn't. Had a 350 on it with the smaller cam and was a good match with the overall setup, couldn't supply enough air up top with the bigger cam. The 500 is better but still not right. Now the fact that a 2bbl 500 carb only flows 354cfm in 4bbl ratings, doesn't help matters. 4 bbl carbs have much smaller primaries than the 2bbls so cruising on primaries 'should' be more economical. While having superior flow up top. Would like to try a 465 or 570 out, but 600s have been proven to work time and again on these lumps, just have to decide how to mount it...
  22. Finally got someone to say i am right. In writing!
