I’ve concur I’ve never met someone who is just 100% in there element while getting punished

It’s panel steel you should always get 100% penetration

The main thing you need to do is take your time and get it so the patch is a perfect fit with no gap. With a good fitting patch and your welder setup right you don’t really need any backing plates. also using sheet metal that is the same thickness as the metal your welding too helps
