While this was all happening last night I was at home sick.
Greg was only allowed to drive it in and out of the workshop without me there. Today we will go up and down the service lane......with massive smiles on our faces.

^This is one of the things people don't get. Far too many cases of asbestos related disease in people who haven't had any direct exposure.

Who do you work for @jakesae101?

Only banned import of asbestos containing products in october 2016 so hardly surprising that there are new ish products that possibly contain it. Surveyor at work found ACM gaskets in a building that was only a few years old as the maintenance staff had been using old stock because they were "better", Makes a bit of a mockery of only buildings pre 2000 requiring surveying.
Yeah for factories, workshops etc our company normally puts in a blanket statement about gaskets. It's not always practical to sample them in working machinery so always recommend when gaskets get replaced they get replaced with tested and certified non asbestos gaskets. Not just gaskets that have no asbestos on the packaging.
If I got paid for every time I get told 'oh you won't find any asbestos here' by someone on site and then I walk through a point there, there and there I would be soooo rich.

Is there some sort of cut-off year for the asbestos in cars? Like would a mid 80's Toyota still be at risk for asbestos issues?
Depends aswell where the parts are from. Quite often China will say somethings asbestos free when it's got 10% or less in it.
My boss analysed brand new gaskets and brake pads straight off the shelf in 2014 which ended up being positive for asbestos.

My companies lab is IANZ accredited (nz equivalient to NATA) so it's not that that's the issue. More just being able to access all the necessary areas to sample.
I had a chat to our technical manager and it is going in the to much hassle for what it's worth basket

Can do swabs or physical samples. that's not the problem it's more accessing everything to prove what is needed.
I am definitely thinking too hard basket.

Has anyone had any experience with importing cars to Australia. In particular proving there is no asbestos present?
I've had a client contact me wanting us to test her 1978 Plymouth Fury for asbestos and provide her with a report she can use as evidence when she imports it to Oz.
Just wanting to know how thoroughly border control looks at this stuff.
Their website has this list:All of that I can sample however it would be getting access to each part that may be an issue. Would probably end up needing a mechanic and a hoist etc... to pull apart and put back together for me.
I'm inclined t put it in the too hard basket and say we can't do it...
