  1. Hiya, Saw this on the weekend at Morrinsville, looks awesome, you've done a great job on it.
  2. Hi all, I am mucking around sticking some bronze guide liners into an old head that I have, one of the guides has a crack in it. I know to fix this properly I should get a 1/2" diameter diameter guide stuck in buut I would rather not, I was thinking that I could cut the guide for a positive valve seal which would give me the space to press fit a sleeve onto the top of the guide, holding it together. If anyone feels like giving an opinion on the brilliance/stupidity of this idea please do...
  3. Nope, I bet is probably not even in the system anymore, its been in his shed for 25 yrs probably.
  4. Hi guys, question about body mods, I know a chap who has modified a wagon by fitting the tray, b-pillar and roof off of a ute (thereby making his wagon a ute). Its an old valiant so it came out with both wagons and ute on the same platform, I can't see anything about this sort of thing in the hobby car manual, is it possible to do this and then cert it? ie. hes done most of the work but its never seen a certifier, will it all need redoing if it were to be certed? Cheers
  5. cool, I think he is just concerned about why these ones would need the addition of washer, when they are not supposed too. Cheers man, thanks for the offer, I have the gear here to cut a thread out if i decide to go that route.
  6. Haha, the thought had crossed my mind,
  7. Yeah, I think he is just concerned that the manufacturer doesn't specify a washer why does it need one... etc
  8. Well because pics are king. That's the ball joint, but one side of the steering link is the same and the other side is a bit better. My mechanic is not keen on adding washers so I will do something else. cheers
  9. Thanks guys, I think the taper on the rod ends is ok, they stop flush with the face on the steering link, not pulling through or anything. The old ones are threaded up to the start of the taper, whereas these HP are not... HP definitely have that not so great reputation and I don't really feel like 1/2 an hour on the phone to get their opinion . Its a VF Hardtop, I am just piecing it back together after a quick paint (only been 7 yrs!) One of them is a bit looser than the steering links, i have another spare but its much the same.
  10. Hi all, I got some tie rod ends for my valiant from HP in Aus and they don't seem quite right. When inserted into the steering link or lower balljoint, the tie rod taper pushes through to about even with the bottom of the mating part, but the threaded portion of the tie rod stops a bit before the taper, so the nut is reaching the end of its travel and jamming at about the same time as the taper is engaging, so I can't guarantee that its all being torqued together properly (and for one balljoint which is a bit looser it aint even engaging the taper). Does anyone know if its ok to stick a washer under tie rod nut so I can do them up properly? or should I just bin them? Cheers Will
  11. For cleaning with phosphoric acid its easiest to do small sections at a time, as mentioned here The stuff from Resene had the highest phosphoric acid content that I could find otherwise Bunnings etc in the paint section as mentioned.
