  1. Nice work on keeping this Cortina on the road.
  2. Looks like it's been wired up by an Indian. Lucky it's not Lucas electrics
  3. One complete box ready for action. Body work will start again in a couple of weeks so looking forward to finally getting progress
  4. Used new gear selector forks as the old ones had nice big wear grooves which causes the box to jump out of gear. Put in the selector rods and then wired the rod securing bolts.
  5. Put in the lay gear and input shaft. Used a bit of weed eater cord to lift the lay gear into plus once the mainshaft installed so the layshaft can be slid in. Also used alloy input shaft housing and rear mainshaft bearing carrier.
  6. Assembled the mainshaft all new bearings and fitted the needle rollers to the laygear.
  7. Finally assembled the gearbox last weekend. Here's the main case ready for the internals
  8. Looks pretty nice! Will be a great cruiser once you sorted all the mechanical gremlins
  9. Natural habitat for one of these is a gas station! Good old ride though and pretty well bullet proof
  10. New Zealand Railways track gangs and Ministry of Work road gangs used to use them in the 50'-70's for their long smokos seriously cool old piece of kit
  11. I used to run triple SU,s on my mk3 in the 80's. Never had many issues at all with tuning. Key is to have a good adjustable linkages. I'm gathering all the parts to do a lowline Mk 2 Zodiac build once my GT is finished. Have a Mk 3 engine with Bedford pistons prettyy big cam, big valve head gas flowed and triple SU,s. going to run a Mk 3 box and steering column, negative camber front crossmember and it all slammed on 8" steel widened wheels all old school.
  12. You running triple SU's on it? Bob Homewood is the guru hot Zephyr engine builder
  13. Stripped an old gearbox for the main case and then stripped and cleaned the mainshaft etc ready for reassembly. Hopefully I should get the mainshaft assembled tomorrow and it all installed in the case.
  14. Looks great. I just put new springs standard height and Koni adjustable shocks all around on mine and the handling has been totally transformed.
  15. Dashboard Restorations are good but 3-4 months wait. You get what you pay for and a cheap patch up will always look like dog shit
  16. Rebuilt the headlights today with mostly NOS parts. Should have who is going to complete the bodywork sorted in the next couple of weeks after the CMS fiasco.
  17. I have finished the pedal box and installed billet crank and water pump pulleys. The body work has ground to a complete halt after the owner of Custom Metal Shapers was banged up in jail for 2 years about a month ago. Pretty fucked off about the whole thing so I'm currently working on getting someone else to finish it. I was hoping to have had it just about on the road now however I can see it being another 12 months away at this rate. Bloody frustrating however it is was it is
  18. Slash the pipe and take a Prius next time you need a taxi to make you feel better about doing it...
  19. Mate the car has fucked it for you...sometimes being to honest just sinks it for you..
  20. Hi all. Anybody know what the go is with banded steel rims and certification? I have a new project in the wings and want to widen 13x5 steel rims to 13x8. With a 3" band oldschool style. Anybody know someone that still does this? Years ago most engineering shops would do it.
  21. I use Otahuhu Chrome Platers. Getting all my MK 1 GT fastenings blue zinc and they come back mint. Might not be the cheapest in town but the quality is great.
  22. Bugger all progress apart from restoring the door handles. More parts to go to the powdercoater and zinc plater man this week.
  23. Big tunnel as an auto makes it easy for a gearbox transplant
  24. Progress on the lower right rear quarter. Need to drop some more parts to the powdercoater and plater.
