  1. Ideally it should have been balanced without the flywheel . usually they balance the motor , then attach a balanced flywheel and front pulley, then a pressure plate . Idea being that if any of these components need replaced later all that is needed is to fit a new balanced item and everything is balanced . If they balance the whole plot as an assembly changing one component later would require re-balancing the whole plot again. There is an exception and that is if the front pulley and /or the flywheel have counter weights built into them for balance purposes , this is known as an externally balanced ( flywheel and pulley with counter weights outside the motor ) internally balanced means all the counter weights are on the crankshaft and the flywheel and front pulley are just essentially a rotor which is balanced in it own self ............ guess Im leading up to saying I don't know weather an Essex V6 is externally or internally balanced Just been googling and it would seem that the Essex motor is externally balanced so you would need to fit the correct unmodified flywheel. . I googled " Essex V6 balancing " . some of the pix clearly show counter weight on the flywheel.
  2. Cool bike . These old bikes sure can be a learning curve and if your starting to loose heart have a look at what the pomms pay for them now ( classic bike mag ) , I reckon NZ is about 10 years behind UK classic bike prices . The kickstarter is a bummer , you'd probly find that its been a bastard to start for years ( carbs ? ) and the shaft has just fatigued . Have a good look at the sprag clutch ( or whatever one -way drive device is) behind the flywheel , probly find issues there and this will be why the chain and sprocket have been removed. Hamish
  3. I bought the equivalent set up for my Rover V8 motor and am well happy with it , the price, and the seller . I have an Allison ignition module driving a coil I stole of the Mrs's MR2 on my Capri .................enough spark to kill a horse
  4. I have put a t9 in my Capri , had to get the drive shaft re made at the yoke splines are diff, probly the worst part was coughing up for the new yoke , made some " adaptors " for the rear g/box mounts that the wof man was happy with , ( didn't have to get it certified ) ( pix if you want ). Speedo is so close I didn't bother adjusting it . With a 3.44 diff it does a mick hair over 2500 rpm at 100km/h in 5th
