1k is a lot more 'work' to get a decent result. As long as you have breathing protection I'd go with the two pack. Your neighbours won't know the diff' between single or two pack if the smell it lol

Yep sounds 'bout right. Why are you using 1k?

Yep, contamination, either on the panel or in primer. Was it a brand new gun? Most cheaper guns come with 'machine oil' still on the internal parts and need thinners run through them a couple of times. There are so many things that could cause this, look around the area you're painting to see if there are any 'silicone' based products, also I've had experience with that type of contamination caused by trees outside (mainly in oz tho') Just rub back with the 320 and do again.
  4. Haha, I've got a pair of Holden VS statesman opera windows that I did exactly that to. Bought the car as a parts supply for mine and no glass company wanted to know about taking them out so cut them out attached to 3" of panel work. (Reason for keeping them is I know from being in the industry insurance companies have written off perfectly good statesman's because they can't find opera windows) Insert Barryism: "I'm keeping those because they'll be worth plenty one day"
  5. Yeah I guess without the cable bit it's just a shitty bent knife.......
  6. Could never be f**ked f**king around with bits of odd shit wire so just bought one of these years ago. Have used it 3 times but so easy it's payed for itself and saved sooooooo much ball ache. http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/Product/Toledo-Windscreen-Removal-Tool-313309/SPO1353021
  7. Lol, Dead Kennedys. Think I've still got a copy of 'fresh fruit for rotting vegetables' somewhere. (Should find it and give it a thrash)
  8. No prob'. Flick me a PM when you're ready and we can have a yarn.
  9. If I had of checked the route before I could've come down to the z and said hi (or thrown rocks at you lot for being noisy pests)
  10. Of coarse he's "fucked off", he tried to cut corners but has been caught out. The 'wax in the plastic' thing is total bollocks and a piss weak excuse for shit workmanship. Bad prep' cutting corners and not using correct products. "Painters" like this fuck me right off. Sorry for the rant man.

He knows quite a bit of stuff and he's a good painter but there are many things he does that I shake my head at. The finer the starting paper the less chance of rub through, so I can't see the point in the bog because you're increasing the chance of stuffing it up. But I guess after 34 years in the game there will be a few things I don't agree with lol.

Fuck me. Who ever came up with that idea needs shooting in the face with a ball of their own shit. I'd bet my left one any one that does that WILL rub through. Just use a very small bit of wood with some 800 wet then 1500 wet. Could do 2000 then hand cut area with some good compound. Be sure to rub the top of the run and slowly bring it down to level.

Yeah, 1:1 is far too thin for lacquer mate. Been 30 years since I played with lacquer but max 30% thinner rings a bell.

As above mate. Feather out the repair and dust on some lacquer primer first, if it doesn't fry up you should be ok to blast it on.

What is the enamel on? If it's on an old car it should be baked enamel. What you do is lightly dust on a couple of coats to see if it 'reacts'. If it doesn't you're good to go, if it does you're f**ked and it needs to be sealed first.
  16. So, no actual physical progress but..... While i was in town today i thought i'd go and have an argument with someone at a wof / compliance place just for shits and giggles. Also so i could feel superior to the 'office' people by saying "YES there is such a thing as a Phillips Gadabout and YES they are eligible to be road legal. BUT, fu*k it all, things didn't go to plan. Lady behind the counter said 'Oh, maybe you should talk to ***** as he's our motorcycle guy'. So after chatting to him for 5 minutes and him checking the system and yelling across the waiting area to say "Yeah bro, our system has Phillips Gadabouts on it". He then produced a form which he half filled out and handed to me saying "when ya up and running bring it in so i can check frame and engine numbers match what you write on form and i'll sort ya plate and shit. Oh, and don't worry about lights and shit cos i won't be doing a 'safety check', besides it won't have a battery so it don't matter" If all goes to plan ***** will be getting very drunk courtesy of me the weekend following my bike receiving plates and reg' lol.
  17. And just to show how bored i was. I knocked this out too. (Off an award winning Triumph Bonnie, although it's award winning days are probably over now that i've touched it haha)
  18. Commission job i did. Client said "Do it when ya get bored mate", so i was bored over the weekend lol.
  19. Thanks, was thinking of going to them but didn't know an os member worked there. Cheers.
  20. Thanks man. Ya know the trouble with the internet? People jump on and ask questions before actually thinking about the problem........................ It seems i'm one of those people lolololo...........pfffft.....................
  21. Rear hub assembled. Front hub before & after a little cleaning. Need to clean brake shoes a bit then etch everything and assemble.
  22. Need to make a new bracket for a rear brake set up but it needs a square hole. Normally would just drill then use flat file but this hole is only 6mm so............................
