  1. After some contemplation about fixing the head gasket weeing oil problem I have come up with the solution: I had planned to put this in later but why not now? Lol. It's actually an XL185 engine with an xr top end, but with something weird like a ctx200 piston I think. So needs a little love but nothing major.
  2. Today the local honda dealership here had what they called a 'showcase' to celebrate 50 years of honda in marlborough so I took my bike along - some quite cool old bikes came out of the woodwork & I got some free shit from the dealer for my troubles. Job tidy. Couple of the highlights;
  3. No never got around to it - it had been making a clattering sound under load when riding it which i thought was related to the cam, but I tore the top end down for a look and the piston casting sucks and was touching the head in one little section. Filed the piston to fix that up. I also fired it up for the first time in probably 18 months after getting the new tank on and now it pisses oil from the head gasket around one of the studs. Runs good, and sounds great for a little donk. Just running a total loss oil system now, apparently. Wrapped the side covers to match the tank. Job tidy jim Oh and upgraded to the world's highest performing tyre; the ppsc control tyre - the shinko 241, naturally.
  4. Reviving this thread, haven't done as much as I'd like with this bike. Have since discovered it's a 1971 model, imported into nz in 73. Also got permission to reuse the black plate on it - complete with rego and wof from 1984. The original tank on it was completely toast, had been previously lined and that had started to fail, exposing some rust holes and paper thin steel on the top of the tank. Amazingly found a cb125s tank on trademe listed as a 'Honda tank' so managed to nab that for $50. However it wasn't without its own problems, here it is after sanding: and after some work it's now looking like this: I got a few new shiny parts to chuck on so will add some photos of it complete once those are all on. Tank doesn't look bad for one big sticker!
  5. also in addition to that, lots of pylon tracks not far after okiwi bay for some added spice
  6. I drove out there on Tuesday, looks to be alot of grey area to go pesting on at the end lol
  7. It's in worse condition now, shitloads of rocks everywhere on the pelorus side. Think of all the loose shit at the top of mt patriarch, a hint worse then pair that with what the trail was like last year. Nelson side is pretty grouse though, had lots of fun on that on the drz. helps when your front wheel isn't about to fall off and you have brakes that work hah
  8. Went for a burn over the maungatapu track today, it’s less small bike friendly than it was the first time, very very rocky on the pelorus side. Would be all good on a CT90/110/125 but probably not on a step through lol.
  9. I’m really hoping it doesn’t but it is possible, I’m coming all the way from the South Island for this one!
  10. Tis a sad day, just saw some blokes post on fb that the ol tini tavern is no longer trading, no half ass burgers and lion browns by the 710ml bottle for lunch this year. RIP
  11. I had this exact problem on an AG100 and the timing went 180 degrees out haha. easy fix though most engineering places have those woodruff keys in varying sizes
  12. Well I bloody hope not lol, booked me ferry and everything for that one already
  13. I probably won’t make it next year, I did have a Cb125 lined up for it but alas other things are happening around that time. Could do some local reccys beforehand though, I’ll probably be hitting the mangatapu on the dog rooter over summer so can see what things are like. May have changed a little since the last ride with all the rainfall we’ve had.
  14. I reckon run it in the same order eh, RIP me though cause I won't be there next year
  15. 1971-1973 era CB100/125 tank even. They changed the badges for the 73 models onward
  16. This thing is a bit more in the spirit of things, goldenboi equipped already
  17. A drz250 sounds like exactly what you describe there jim
  18. Well, I’m not so chipper on the idea of riding a scooter from Blenheim to whakatane so that’s my excuse.
  19. Here’s my ride this year, big bird the garish yellow motorcycle
  20. @RUNAMUCK yeah I was going to do a ferry mission with me bike on the back then meet up with the palmy doodz and go from there
  21. ken to have some real shit sleeps in a tent, drink beer and hoon smol bikes, perhaps not in that order though.
  22. What's the plan for baffles? There's a video of a guy with an old Honda CL77 on youtube with pipes like that and he used essentially a washer (with the hole in the middle still) that you could turn either vertical to baffle, and horizontal for the noise
