  1. Yeah, that cropped up while i was researching last night. Trouble is we had very little Japanese stuff here in the 60's/ early 70's. Found a firm in 'Murica who seem to have a lot of parts and a decent reputation, Any opinions/experience anybody ? https://jdm-car-parts.com/ Also thinking about painting the Watanabe's bronze or gold or similar. Thoughts ? /yeah, it's a GX71 and yeah, I can only dream of that offset but you get my point..
  2. What happened was..... Had a big fuck off pizza for lunch & then got stuck into the car around midday. First job was the clutch, thought the master &/or slave might have been fucked but a bleed & adjust sorted it Brakes next. Calipers were a bit sticky but freed them up to a usable state. For the moment, at any rate. One rear was perfect, if dusty. Nice use of thumb... Other side fucked. Or so I thought. Cleaned it all up, took the cylinder apart and it all seems fine. Once I'd refitted & bled the system there was no sign of a leak, even with repeated pedal stamping/ continual pressure. Go figure... We''ll see how it goes. I wonder if the reason it was all damp and shitty was because on top of the drum was the fave spot for rats to have a wee. Put new plates on. Think I'm going to join the rear lights with a black panel edged with chrome trim. Mrs Shuzz said " Oh, FFH....Fucking Hot Hako ?" Good girl. Finished off as the sun went down touching up the paint on the rims & taking a blurry pic. Messed about with plug leads, etc and came in And that was a bloody good use 7 hours of my Saturday. Test drive tomorrow. Sweeeeet.....
  3. Hey, @kyteler, does this look anything like you console lid ? Also, how about the wheel cylinder ? Ta x
  4. Saturday morning update.... Got my chores done & picked up my new tyres, got back home and the postie had brought me prezzies. Time for an early lunch and then an afternoon of Skyline shenanigans. /pics
  5. I'd thought about filling & covering it in suede or vinyl on something. We'll see if KY's one is the same and if not, I'll have to get a bit creative. Maybe I could cast one up in resin with cherry blossom & glitter trapped inside. JDM as fuck, etc.
  6. Dude. That'd be ace. I'll pm you tomorrow. /as they say on the internet.
  7. @kyteler, looking at rubber-soul's site I think the rears are the same as yours and I have it in my head that pads are the same as the Hilux, I even have a feeling the calipers are a straight-ish swap. i may have to go and have a look on JNC if it's still there, i think they had a Hako compatibility thread running before all the hako owners fucked off ! As you just said, I don't think much S30 stuff fits. I'm a virgin as far as buying stuff from Japan goes. One car and a few CD's from Amazon japan. The importers I've spoken to here get a bit vague when it comes to the older stuff. Getting flashbacks to when I was first hunting the car....
  8. You lucky bastard. Got my documents & registration number back in a record 12 days. I've ordered some plates, Black & silver, Japanese dimensions with motorcycle size digits. Should look OK. Tyres are all fucked. Dry rotted on the inside. Little bit suss as they were fitted just before it was shipped. Date stamped 2005 so not a massive surprise, cheapy new ones on the way. Not sure which way I'm going to go with the wheel tyre combo yet. Can't really drop it any lower for our roads so no mad camber & stretch on the way. It's up on stands and that's where we get to the lucky bastard bit. It is still totally solid underneath and seems to be as original as I thought. A few little scabs on a couple of the doors but over all it's mint. Gonna need some brake parts & maybe a new clutch master and/or slave cylinder, anybody got any recommendations for parts suppliers, either in Japan or over your way ? Been asking around a bit over here but I'm not feeling the love.... Anyway, a couple of rust-free pics just for fun. Hopefully some decent, on-the-road pics in the next few weeks.
  9. Err, I think this is right..... It is a C10 Nissan Skyline, also known as the Hakosuka (boxy Skyline), the first Nissan to be called Skyline and the predecessor to the C110 Skyline or Kenmeri Skyline, a version of which you guys had over there. It's the fourth model to be called Skyline, the first three were built by Prince who were absorbed into Nissan. Does that help ? Feeling a bit 'Alan Thomas' now, maybe I should have started the this post "My dear fellow".
  10. Butain. Interestingly similar to the French Putain. I say similar I mean in spelling. I have sampled neither.
  11. 3 years and 5 days later ? Fucken hell. I've finally pulled my finger out and got on with getting the Hako road legal. It's been seven years since it arrived. There were various reasons why it's basically sat in the shed for all that time but one of the main problems changed last year. The indicators on the Skyline are illegal in this country. After 1965 cars must have orange indicators front and rear, there was no easy way to rig it up using the original system and I wasn't prepared to butcher the loom and add extra orange lighting etc. To register an import it had to pass an MOT test which also served as an vehicle identification process. No orange indicators mean't no certificate & no registration papers. In their wisdom the powers that be decided that from May 2018 all cars 40 plus years old didn't need to have the annual MOT test. This is obviously bonkers but there really aren't that many pre '78 cars left on the road here and I'd say that almost all of them are in the hands of people with at least half a clue what they're doing. What this mean't for my Skyline was that it didn't need to be tested to be registered. It has to be "roadworthy" but doesn't have to be tested. The indicators are still illegal but you have to get pulled over by a copper who knows his stuff. The upshot is that I sent all my paper work off, had a random inspection to determine that it's not 2 cars welded together, etc & I'm now awaiting my documents and registration number. It needs a few things sorting and I've arranged with the local MOT tester to have the car "tested" on training mode so I'll get all the print outs but it won't be legally binding. 10/10, GC, etc. Biggest problem has been a mouse that moved in at some point over the winter, it may have been the one I evicted from the Hilux. Little bastard ate my centre console, plug leads and steering column stalks. Fucker. Update soon /pic 4 fred
  12. As reported elsewhere it passed its test. Whilst not with flying colours, it was good enough. Or maybe he just wanted rid of me. It's been a week now and I've done about 350 miles, the only casualty has been the alternator and P/S belts which have worn due to rusty pulleys. I'll have to have at them with the emery paper. I have no idea how I survived the last ten years without a pickup, it's been so useful this week. I know we had the L200, but that was only half a pickup really and had a lid on it most of the time. Mrs Shuzz drove it for a few miles and declared it "alright, but a bit slow". Blardy hooligans. Update when the weather gets good enough for painting it. Anyway, pics.
  13. Fuck you for a couple of weeks. Had to walk away before I burned the twat. Made the interior look right pretty. Getting there with the electrics, lots of water in the loom & fuse boxes. Defusing the towing electrics. Blue or black ? Seems to have helped though. That's all I've got for the moment, not even going to tempt fate and think about when it might get tested.
  14. So, just before I went to the test I thought I'd check the lights. One headlight not working on dip, also fog lamp and brake lights packed up too. Cancelled test. *sigh* Then found something hiding in the engine bay under the fuse box.. I'd like to find the sparky who did this & shake him warmly by the throat.... Rewire in the morning and hopefully that'll cure it. Ha ha, yeah, right.
  15. It had crossed my mind. I'd do it if I knew that I'd never have to access the engine ever again. The way the recovery services work over here would make it a complete waste of time. So many ways of worming out of fixing stuff, if they answer the phone at all.
  16. A final thought/question for the day (my day, anyway). Spare tyre...... It won't fit where it should, plus I binned the pulley & chain years ago as it was fucked. Anywhere in the bed is a pain in the arse, especially where it is now though slightly less so against the cab back. My thoughts were either build an American style tailgate mount or how about on the front ahead of the rad ? It's not exactly going to ruin the lines. Discuss..... /all opinions welcome, even wrong ones. //nite spam Fred.
  17. He was damn close. Trouble is 4H is the same wheel speed as 2H, so you don't notice it until about 40 MPH when it all slows down and starts vibrating.
  18. What happened was....... The problem of the sluggish performance has been solved. As has been pointed out the 2.4 litre 2L diesel engine is indeed "gutless". 68 bhp, so I'm told. However, the main problem was the rusty old nut behind the wheel. Too many years of triple diamond four-wheelin' mean't I'd forgotten where the transfer lever goes for 2H on a Hilux. It's not the same as a Mitsubishi. Derp. Autopilot plus hubs locked in and it's no wonder it was struggling. The new tyres weren't ever going to let the box unwind either. Silly Shuzz. MOT tomorrow so got it all ready and then set about tidying up the interior. Just as I finished today, the headlights and fog light packed up. Fuckity balls. Still, the interiors come up ok. 1980's steering wheel FTW /pics Hopefully some good road legal type news tomorrow
  19. So he's not a Firetruck anymore ? I must keep up. Couple of pics for amusement.... Lube chart that has lived in the sun visor pouch since new. And on the back, me being a Barry about my oil changes. Muppet. A Muppet with a 300,000 mile engine that doesn't use oil.
  20. Nah, it was in H2. Just wont rev beyond a certain point if there's a whiff of a hill. Up to max revs in 3rd but won't pull in 4th. I've never put a set of injectors in it & I'm pretty sure that sitting with shitty diesel in it for 10 years hasn't helped them. I'll bung some cleaner in and wash what's left of the piston rings into the sump. That'll do it. Maybe just get new injectors, it's not smoking or getting hot so I'm not that worried.
  21. Well. Drove it home today, and a very enlightening 7 miles it was too. What a bumpy, noisy, sluggish pile of junk it is. Can my memory really be that rose tinted ? Who was it who said "gutless" ? 40 MPH flat out. Despite its N/A status it still used to do 70+. I'm guessing some new injectors might help but I'm going to start off dumping a bottle of cleaner in the tank. Even the new shocks are no match for the heavy duty springs, it was bouncing all over the place. The tyres are pretty noisy but I'm hoping I'll be able to drive through the 35 MPH peak. Once the interior is back in it'll be quieter I'm sure. May even dynamat it first. Anyway, it matters not because I still love it to bits. Got a couple of little tasks lined up to ease it (and me) back into action. I can still climb into the bed off the back tyre so I've got a few years in me yet ! Mrs Shuzz ran blocker on the way home with strict instructions to distract Police interest by any means possible. Whilst keeping her clothes on, obviously. Eastbound and down..... Few little bits to sort tomorrow. Sidelights, new reg plate, adjust rear brakes again & then MOT time
  22. /gutless crawl. Thanks gang, I couldn't have done it without you
