  1. Since the car is a looooooong slow project the original certifier has retired. I probably should talk to Clint.
  2. Some slow progress. I have been looking for a VS commodore fuel tank. I ended up getting a damaged one to use to mock up the boot floor, Thanks Zebra Dude. This means that the panel work can carry on. The tank is going in backwards so the filler ends up on the right side. If any one has a VR or VS tank I need one. I had the wells off the Firebird so I took a couple down to try for size. The one off the back fitted OK, 8 inches wide 245 tires, some smaller tires will be the trick. The 7 inch ones off the front with 205 tires looked lost. Photos below sorry about the crappy phone photos And the 7 inch Might be better lowered a couple of inches
  3. It's getting near the time that I need to figure out the seat belts for the EJ Holden. Does anybody know if I can use the replica 60's chev belts that the likes of Classic Industries sell. I know there are standards, the number I found is FMVSS106. I want retractable belts for the front seats and lap belts for the front centre and the back. I know that I need plates for the mountings to the floor (original ones went when the floor pans got replaced) would the original mounts in the pillars pass? All and any help appreciated. Mike
  4. Dave at A1 exhaust in Hillside Road, Glenfield does a good job without it costing stupid money.
  5. Cool truck, Put a Vortec (LS1 type 5.3) out of a 2000 or later truck in when the original motor and trans die. Go faster, use less gas. Import used one yourself and cheaper than a full motor and box rebuild. Mike
  6. Bugger, wife is away in Taranaki working. Guess I could bring the boys, it's only a school night.
  7. Top effort everyone, big thanks to all, especially threeonthetree and Zebra Dude for making it happen. Mike
  8. I'm a bit worried of this talk about cleaning, polishing and vacuuming........ I was sorting out WOFs and Rego's and making sure there was oil in the motor.
  9. Nice car, always wanted one. I like the 80's spot lights with covers.
  10. T5's aren't the greatest box on the planet, World Class versions are rated for 300 ft/lb of torque, non WC are about 260 from memory. It's torque not HP that breaks stuff. Having said all that I have a WC T5 behind the 350 Pontiac in my Firebird, that rated at 380 ft/lb and that box has survived. The protection is the crappy rear tires. Since you already have gearbox, bell housing, clutch........ I would rebuild the gearbox.
  11. If the weather is nice the Firebird will be out and I have a couple of spare seats. Wet weather and the Silverado will be there, it has 4 spares seats. Passengers must like V8 noises and loud rock music. Mike
  12. Small progress, I picked up some new disc rotors and wheel bearings from Supercheap last week. I picked them up today after getting 6mm machined off the discs and all being well, will fit with the HQ calipers I found. While I was out and about I stopped in to the panel shop to check on progress. Most of the work has gone on under the back of the car so photos don't show much. I got given the hurry up to procure the commodore fuel tank and boot floor. Time for a trip to Zebra Dudes wreaking yard. Just realised that the car is in the same spot from when I dropped it off. Last time I saw it, it was up on the hoist. So much better for working underneath.
  13. A bit of progress. I picked up the last panels off the car from the shed in Glen Innes and brought them home. The trim has been stripped off the bonnet and front panel and will be going to the blasters tomorrow. I'm hoping not too many holes come back. Some very crappy photos from my geriatric iPhone
  14. I'm keen to come along. What is the plan for the day, my wife and youngest son are overseas and I have to take the other son to his soccer game. Mike
  15. Cool Car. Mate of mine has had several of these over the years. The one he had that was the twin of yours came home, wife took one look at it and said that is mine. One of the great things is that all the body panels are available from the US, but I'm sure you know this already
  16. I went down to the Panel Shop yesterday to have a look at progress. They have started with the rotten rear section, all the cavities that Holden never painted from new. Some nice work being done, I did have to remind Phil, the guy actually doing the work this is not a show car and the underside will get a nice thick coat of underseal. Has to be functional, not beautiful. It makes a huge difference being able to walk around under the car on a hoist, much better than on your back while is on jack stands. The ETA for finishing is a couple of months, this is their fill in job to keep the costs down for me. I promise photos next time I go for a look.
  17. Where did you get the sump from? Also did you get a dip stick? I have a genuine sump with a pick up, the pick up looks nasty and a new one could be a good idea.
  18. Lots of good thoughts here. The wife has me on a budget for this project, which has been well and truly blown. If it was given a really nice paint job then i have to chrome the bumpers, door handles etc. I guess I'm looking at the thick end of 3 grand as a minimum. I guess I'm really leaning to the faketina, but in a subtle way. Kind of like this car though the paint is original. http://ejehforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=75I really like the idea this guy had using a commodore strut front end. I was already committed to the Torana front otherwise I would have gone this way. The best thing about the commodore front is power steering is really easy, unlike the Torana front.
  19. That factory burnt orange is perfect for a daily driver, it doesnt show the dirt. The Kingswood I had years ago was that colour and I only knew how dirty it was when it got a wash.
  20. I just read the story of the pick up from the wharves. Sounds like the sort of thing we did last century before life got so serious. A mate of mine bought a Galaxy in some time around 1988. Went to the post office with the chassis number, picked up the new plates, down to the wharf, bolted them on and drove to the garage to get a warrant. Anyway those Mustangs are cool, nice ride.
  21. Satin Black EJ van for anyone who is interested http://ejehforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11121
  22. I have spent a lot of time recently pondering the highly important subject of what colour to paint the car. There are 3 options that I have come down to Satin black. I have always wanted a satin black car and I could get away with leaving the shiny bits as they are. Painted the original beige and white with a lift. The roof would get a gold metallic and a white pearl over the beige. Painted the original colours but with a mock patina. Way back when I bought the car I was thinking about leaving the paint alone but there was too much rust and someone had gone mad with rust kill and spray bomb PA10. I am leaning very much to the mock patina, painting the whole car the dark brown colour that Holden used for their primer. This would be a matt finish. Over the top the original colours in a satin finish. Finally sand through to expose the base colour in the areas that would wear through, tops of the guards, front edge of the roof, front of the bonnet...... Thoughts please.
  23. I swung by the Panel Shop to get a couple of photos to prove that the car has moved. Time to get the bonnet and front panels stripped of the should be shiny bits and off to be blasted. I keep forgetting how small these cars really are, especially now there is some space around it. Lastly I have bought a modified chip for the VT 5litre I have to go in from a Guy named Tony off trademe. The big thing is the chip has the VATS disabled. The tune should take the motor close to HSV specs. This should be fun, 190 Kw in a car that weighs 1200 kg with 215 tyres on the back..
  24. Today I played Hookey from work and got the car over to the panel shop. Managed to dodge the rain showers and only get a little bit of rain on it. My wife came and helped with the pushing around and winding the winch on the trailer. With the stress of the weather I forgot to take any photos. I will go down to the panel shop tomorrow if I get a chance and take a couple. Heres a couple of photos from the other day when I go the doors on and the threaded rod in to hold the front suspension up. It's got the 70's nose down thing going on big time.
