And that heater core, was beyond fucked. Same with the water pump. There were no fins there basically. They had all rusted out.
-
Got a brand new water pump yesterday, and a new heater core, which I was really lucky to get, considering their their getting thin in the air. I can't stand not having a warm OS car especially when winter comes around. I installed them and cleaned out the air system, it had leaves and dirt and shit in it. And replaced the internal air filter, which I'm surprised it had one.
And shit it runs 110% better now. The Mirage cools down much better, and damn that heater come winter, will be shit hot.
-
Sounds like a heater core to me. The water pump leak is coincidence
Yeah it's not like a hard core sauna or anything its just a bit of steam. But shit both heater core and water-pump guh
-
What you need to do, is be 100% sure where that water leak is coming from, because I don't believe you.
Have a good old poke around, dry areas with rags etc and find the source of the water.
Mate i'm being honest man, I forgot to mention there's a bit of water coming out from around the pump.
But yeah the water is coming out through the bottom foot-well vents, with steam and shit.

Basically what it says up there, the Mirages water pump has gone, and its sending water through into the cabin and its steaming up the inside windows when i'm driving LOL. Is that caused by both the water pump and heater core or just the water pump on its own? because it seems weird that its steaming up.
My dads old EP91 Starlet did the same thing.
Also anyone know where to get a new water pump on the cheap. gonna get it done tomorrow.
I should have replaced it anyway, it was noisy as fuck.

Those Mirage hubcaps are pretty gangster. I think I will clean them up and put them on.

I will be taking part, just scoping out what's in the mirage now. Mmm what don't I need.
-
Do that and I'll be sure to gift it back to you and then make sure you get to unwrap your present and then eat it in front of everyone.
Would be a bit stink puhuhuhuhu
What do you think I am, stupid?
On second thoughts, don't answer that question.
-
On second thoughts, I will bring that half / mostly eaten Wendy's chicken burger from Monday night. It might be a little hard. But the person that gets it won't need to go to Burger Fuel.
-
It would have been good to have a second mirage there. We could have even made that 3 if Ben brought his along. Was hoping to make this but sadly I cant. Apparently its frowned upon to leave your kids alone at home unattended.
Have a good one fellas
And not sure what to bring for the secret Santa.
-
Will santa be there in his sleigh? I'm nominating Ben. He would be a great match.

Thanks but I can't take much credit. Most of the year the meets have been organised by Chris (EURON8) and even now it's a team effort between Karl (BDA780) and myself. Mainly Karl though haha.
Cheers for the recognition though!

I thought it's nearly Christmas, so I thought I should thank some of these good cunts, for their help over the past year since or so since I've had my Mirage and joined this forum.
Firstly it is too the good people who make the Old School forum truly fucking great, like the normal Joe who dispenses his great advice to take heed and learn from.
The Auckland area rep (threeonatree) - Neil who organises the monthly Wednesday meetups. With a crowd of people who are a shit load better than the general Quay Street dirtbag on a Friday night.
Another massive thankyou, (and i'm sure you would all agree.) To (zebradude) - Ben, the kind welsh fella who spends his time tirelessly answering f**king questions from us OSERS like do you have this part? How much is this? How much is that? When is the Onehunga yard opening? Is this car in your yard? Your help acquiring the cars for us to get parts from is also truly and so greatly appreciated. We ask and you make it your goal to get a car in for us. I have never heard of a man so committed to it. Ben is the man that keeps our old classics on the road. So a massive massive thank you Ben and (Bigfoot)
And to all members who make this forum truly effin great.

Is there one happening this month?

Mint, some lush 80s shit there. But no mirages. :/

After you get it clean,I highly recomend putting in the Risolene stop leak stuff.
I have put it in cars and watched it seal cracks in radiators 3 inches long.
You can also run it with most antifreez/antiboil brands and types.
I think the 4cyl stuff is around $14 so cheap insurance (also has fixed a few water pumps too)
OK thanks for that.

Verdict on the vinegar, it did OK. It cleared most of the rusty coating out of the pipes and and the cooling system in general. I probably will use it again.

How much? (Not that we have a gilmours here)
I was thinking of getting some from bin inn.
You'd reckon that the soda would break down any mineral deposits from the water inside the engine. I've never heard of using vinegar before.
I have an engine which is going to be so full of rust it's not funny.
It was $6.42 per 5L bottle. The cheapest that was there. Plus add 15% GST.
-
Just got me 10L of the purest White vinegar I could find.
-
Shit, thanks for all the good advice guys, I'm about to go to Gilmours in Mt roskill and buy a few litres of white vinegar in bulk
-
Are they the same things you use in the dishwasher
-
Should I let it reach boiling point?
-
Ohh thanks for clearing that up Neil.
A Sauna with radiator fluid, and a blowen water pump.

I replaced the radiator last year. So let's hope not.
