  1. Laser back on the road again for summer, with a matching car to now.
  2. Goodbye old friend... Hello New Friend .....
  3. Sounds like a good drive, I will be at hockey ..... again . Season nearly finished.
  4. Kids have had a drive now so its time for it to go. Time for a new toy.
  5. Thanks Alex,Shane and anyone else who helped organise. Was an excellent day, way more than I expected.
  6. I am giving it a miss this year. Golden bay sounds great, count me in for that one.
  7. Awesome!! I love buttons. The more the better.
  8. No worries. Handed out some more flyers at the sound off at car show (found some still in the back of my car which was handy). A few from Blenheim as well. Will see what happens.
  9. Awesome day today at the Db drag racing Nelson. Those extra alternators did the trick. My new record 141.5db. Very Happy
  10. What time are you meeting? I have a bbq at 12 but thought I would go before or after, depending on time.
  11. Ended up using both VJ1 turbos to make a temp good one. Next problem was I noticed the stereo battery keep losing its charge over a couple of days. Started some testing and found one of my $40 alternators has a fault. Went to get another one but no luck. Pulled it apart to check diodes but they were O.K. So have put back in for now so I can use the car. Wired in this temp relay to stop it draining my battery when not being used. Looking for another 80 Amp one like this if you have one to spare. I think it is from a Ford Telstar. It did originally have a rib pulley, not a v belt.
  12. Car nearly ready, should finish it tonight , but I'm working at the home show this weekend.
  13. Thanks Alex Next meet I'll nick some from the viva.
  14. Hey thanks. Yes not sure what to do about the balancing. I marked the exhaust and compressor blades so they line up again. Not sure if that is good enough.
  15. Stereo working well now, ready for sound off in November. Hoping to beat my 140.4DB Panel with fuses for motorised bits and indicators for alternators. It's turbo time. Spare one on car lacks power and is not right so ripped it out again. Never touched a turbo before but thought what the hell I'll give it a go. Been reading a few blogs where the VJ1 and VJ20 can fit together. Got myself a VJ20 today so now the fun begins.
  16. Car running sweet now - see discussion thread. Just a few small leaks to sort. Got two indicator lights today for the alternators and connected it all up. Works really good so far. On the left, voltage from car battery and alternator 1. On the right, voltage for the stereo from the other alternators 2 and 3.
  17. Hallelujah Its away running. Bit noisy at the moment, need to tighten the tappets. Had to adjust the timing, which is now different to my original motor but maybe that's because the cam had been worked. Must be something wrong with the other fuel injection system as well. It can go in the spare parts pile. All went pretty good apart from when I went to put one of the last stud bolts in to tighten head, it wouldn't fit all the way down. What the So off came the head again. After a lot a swearing .Found that when they planed the head, they put one of the locating pins in the wrong hole. Lucky I had taken a lot of photos before and after. Tomorrow is tidy up day. Then try and find a couple of pilot lights for the extra alternators, not as easy as I thought it would be, cause everything gone LED.
  18. On the third attempt all the plugs are dry and still had spark, but will put that on the list if I run into trouble. Cheers
  19. Thanks Matt My neighbour came over and told me the same thing. I tested the power on coil and it stayed at 12 volts. Couldn't find a ballast resistor any where. Not sure if it has one because it is electronic. It is a bit different to the NZ laser sport twin carb. Putting it back together tomorrow with original inlet injection system so the only things that have changed will be the block and the head. If it does the same thing will investigate the ballast resistor further. Cheers Paul //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/45696-paulluap-1984-ford-laser-turbo/?p=1587914
  20. Bit of an update. Things not going as well as expected. Spare motor starts but only runs for 5 seconds then stops. Start it again and it goes for another 5 seconds then stops. Then it just winds over and over. Wait 5 minutes and it all starts over again. Spark good, fuel pressure good. Sometimes when it turns over it sounds like it was getting stuck. Decided to pull the head off. Hmmmm valves touching pistons. Timing is o.k. Getting head tested and will put back together with my original intake and see what happens. In the 5 seconds it did run my alternator lights were not turning off, found that the indicator panels lights I brought were LEDs. So hopefully if I change them for standards lamps that part should work.
  21. Well been working on the off roader, while I wait for a part to be made for the laser. Decided to modify it so I can teach my kids to drive before I probably sell it. First take the car seat I made a few years back when they were about 4, so they could sit in it, and make it bigger. Next was to make all the pedals move so they can reach them. Used an old car jack, mounted pedals on a sliding plate and added a crank handle, works great. Now to find a piece of dirt and test it.
  22. Bit of an update. Spare motor in and now connecting everything back together. Fuses for stereo and alternators Alternators fit nicely -- just. Now waiting for a pipe to be made so I can carry on. (Been waiting 3 weeks so far.)
