  1. Nope not enough room for a holden 6... have to chop firewall unfortunately. .... A buick, or ecotec v6 should fit easy enough. Or many other 4cyl engines.. ive been umming and rrrrring about a lil turbo 1.9L ive got sitting in the corner. not the biggest powerhouse still compared to some the new NA jap 4 cylinders. But still has a bit of old schoolness to it. your worried about your engine setup.... lol. i drove an 1156cc AUTO as my daily for years hahhaha. Was dead stock bar a datto 1200 carb. Used to go not to bad for what it was once you were going. (Acceleration wasn't its strong point lol)
  2. Very nicely done.. Ive always hated the top radiator hose setup etc... So on one of my (super longtime lol) projects ive removed the radiator spacer? Mounts and fitted a much larger crossflow style radiator from some jap car? Im now looking into modifying the thermostat cover to be a bit more like a holden six and exit from side rather than top so i get a nicer hose angle from motor to radiator. I also get a better sized radiator lol. Its probably just going to look a tad odd with such a large gap between the radiator and engine. Ive just told everyone its because ive set the engine further back for better handling. ... lmfao.. But seriously im starting to weigh up an engine swap anyway now due to an engine sitting here on the floor and an all to close at hand tape measure..... lol
  3. This needs one of these...... or 2 1up front and 1 in the rear haha Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/122001952475
  4. Can't say thats how i professionally do it. But guess things are different over there lol. I much prefer to remove and use a lathe. Its more accurate and safe.
  5. The 4wd (terri) models chew that much?? I get that around town. With lots of stop starts and short trips....(Rwd)
  6. Yep the miami is a fun unit to drive. Just don't think about the amount of fuel it uses when doing so. Its a very "kiss you license goodbye" type of engine/car lol
  7. Theres alot of things avail now to modernize an older car. Central locking is pretty easy as are elec windows. Power steer and even air cond is avail. With technology now sound deadening is alot better and easier to use. As for wind noise a good set of rubbers may help. You can even do stealth media installs on older cars. So you can have an ild looking car that actually drives and feels more like a modern car fairly easily these days. And if done right isn't that expensive.
  8. Remove the wood from the mdf as careful as possible then light sand where it was glued and flip the wood and glue to a new piece of mdf. (Opposite to original glued side) Will give you a mirror image of what you got now. Messy- yes Time consuming -yes. But may save ya buying more wood panels
  9. Thought about that. How does it go up against gravel roads etc? Seen spray on stuff and a tape version too. Just looked a tad.....thin?
  10. If you have an area on ya car susceptible of stone chips etc like that. See about getting some molds done of the area and make some plastic or fibreglass covers that clip in at wheel arch and tape on the body (can't recall the double sided tape i used was 3m i think) have them painted same colour as the car and done. To remove apply heat from a hair dryer etc and tape comes away slowly (if ya get correct tape) i suggest trying on an old wreck or sh#tbox 1st. But of stuffing around but saved my paint job years ago. Sold them with the car.
  11. Reminds me of this. The old holden grey motor with rotary valve head. Crazy engineering. http://www.thegreymotor.com/2014/08/dunston-rotary-valve-head.html?m=1
  12. Mate just saying what ive seen. Th350's are popular mainly due to their size (smaller than a th400) They're a good trans aslong as the pump is good. Myself i prefer not to use them. If i was to want to keep a 3speed. (Especially in something the size of a c10) id go peace of mind and swap out to a th400. The trans he has may run perfectly well for another 20yrs?? Im just wary of them after what ive seen 1st hand.
  13. It makes a difference around town too. 1st gear has a better ratio than a th350 too. So will get off the line better as well. Ive never been a big fan of the th350. Seen too many over the years with major pump issues. Seen 4 that have totally seized the pump locking the convertor snout up. Big big mess and can be dangerous.
  14. If this is just gonna be a cruiser (not a bruiser/hotty etc) Id suggest finding a good Th/700r trans and swapping out the th/350. You should get reasonable $$$ for the 350. The 700 trans is the 4speed found in many US cars and the vn-vp 5L v8's. Your fuel economy should improve considerably and be much nicer to cruise the highways with. What diff ratio is it now? 3.5, 3.7, 4.11 etc?
  15. Throw in a nice solid cam and auto the 6.
  16. Love the concept But was so wishing you stick with the blue flame. Throw some tripples on it or efi even? But so much more original. As in not like the other million v8 chevs. Probably alot easier to wotk on too. Just sit in the engine bay. Lol.
  17. Next bottle of champagne you here get popped nab the cork. The postpak type tubes have useful plastic ends (Obviously depending on size) Rubberbands and plastic bags or even glad wrap are good in some areas. 100 mile hour tape. When new radiators or master cylinders/clutch cylinders etc etc are purchased there are plastic plugs in places. Carefully remove them without wrecking them clean them up and store in a box for future use. Even some of the packaging from stuff you buy that's normally thrown out can sometimes have usefull pieces. When i had my house air cond installed the guys left all the rubbish for me to dispose. I found heaps of useful clips and plugs. Just keep ya eyes peeled.
  18. Over all the years of playing with cars/engines etc ive accumulated a vast selection of bolts, plugs/caps, water pumps, oil pumps and old spark plugs etc i use to block up holes. (Mainly holden 6 an v8, ford v8 etc) What i cant cover that way i use 3m masking tape.
  19. And waging your tools on drags for fuel money..... Hahaha
  20. Is there no port near the mounting flange? There's usually a small pipe around the throttle butterfly near carby "base" where it bolts to the manifold.
  21. So glad you got rid of the fast and the furious lookin seats. Did not suit the mini at all. The new seats look heaps better. Although can access to the rear still happen?
  22. Yeah start with a good insurance of the block of wood under the go pedal. Lmfao.
  23. Oh you've never driven a 70hp. Hmmmm May i suggest a defensive driving course to prepare yourself. Just so you're ready for that insane surge of power. Best to be safe than sorry....
  24. You could always fit a poxy roof rack setup for ya jerry cans. But that could interfere with carports, drivethrus etc... And would probably cause more wind drag and increase fuel consumption. ..
  25. Look around some wreckers or online (what ever your cheap goods page is there, gumtree here..) Find some used drawers from a 4wd and fit in the back. all ya small stuff goes in the drawers. And mowers on top. Make up a folding ramp setup that once you Open tailgate you just fold it down and roll the mower up and in. Saves ya back. Then grab a second hand cargo barrier from a wagon or van etc and fit it in to stop mowers etc from entering the seating area. And id definitely be getting the jerry cans out of the cabin.... the fumes will be a c@#t. Not to mention over here most cops would grill you on the spot for having them in the cabin.
