  1. this thing will be a wheelie machine! any ideas for how youre gonna set up the shifter?
  2. don't have a lot of room to shorten shocks as the wheel bottoms out on the seat sometimes but could stiffen them up for less travel I spose. would nylon do the trick?
  3. due to exams and shit weather this thing has been gathering dust, but also brainstorming for future mods to improve its handling. would love to take this thing out on the track at a Central Districts M/C club day or even OS nats.. 1) huge tyres look rad but handle like a bag of donkey dicks round corners, so probs gonna downsize to 2.75 all round or 3" on the back. 2) stiffer suspension, old bikes of this era are notorious for super floaty suspension, is there a way to stiffen the rear shocks or like a pitbike equivalent for twin shock bikes? 3) disc brake conversion would be tits, an RD50 or RX125 might be a good donor, need to look into whether I need the entire front end or I can whip up a mount on the existing front wheel and forks. GP100 owners, can I get a pic of the disc brake setup and perhaps try to copy? any info/experience would be greatly appreciated from my fellow ring ding enthusiasts!
  4. all these photos make me super gutted I didn't commit to riding one. how do you 50cc jokers go with keeping on the pace? is there quite a few smaller bikes to ring ding with?
  5. yeah the old boy told me basically if it hasnt been registered after 1994 when VIN plates were introduced etc then i have to re-register it via alternative documents process. which is kinda shit considering everyone on here describing their experiences being nothing but smooth sailing. old boy also told me they are cracking down on moped registration, too many cuzzies registering cheap chinese scooters that are much bigger than 50cc as mopeds, meaning now they check everything when re-registering. and to be honest, once i pay the nzta $184 to re-register, on top of registration and the entry certification its more than the scooters worth. if i do get pulled up on it maybe i will, but i cant justify $300 just for a number plate and rego tag
  6. so after being shafted with the re-vin process, decided to keep building and just use licence plate from an already registered moped and begin modz huge tyres looked cool but inevitably were horrible. they rubbed everywhere, hard to get on and off, front tyre was eating away at my speedo cable, not ideal. slapped the 2.25's back on, made a great difference. top speed increased. no rubbing. the dream. then came the lows v pleased with end result. took indicators off cos in all honesty they do fuck all, and it looks better. scoot goes so much better now without the horrible boaty suspension. sui shifter??? trim the seat??? more matte black aussie export????? roger
  7. saw you hissing around palmy on sunday! rangitikei/grey st intersection i think. bike looks amazing! you best be bringing it to burger meet next tuesday! ill be there on my ring ding-mobile making excessive noise also.
  8. digging the MS paint roof spoiler jim. it's a 3 or 6 for me
  9. how did drilling the jet out go? really need to get on to doing mine eh, boss at work reckons drilling jets is a bit of a gamble, but then again so is trying to find a bigger jet haha
  10. twin expansion chambers on the cards? was the re-vin process difficult? i am extremely envious of what seems to be your never ending classic 2 stroke inventory. would be keen for a cruise on a good day, if your 185 can keep up with a 100cc
  11. yeah man its so good! i feel like it has gotten slightly quieter, or im just used to it. fab an airbox out of sheetmetal. doit
  12. update: have been riding this thing a lot lately. so much fun! everyone needs to experience 2 stroke ring dings as a mode of transport in their lives. bike ha been turning heads everywhere i go, such a good feeling when an old foamer comes over for a squizzy at the servo or wherever. only thing ive done to it recently is switch back to running factory airbox (thanks for that one josh!). the bike's frame was so close to the carb my pod filter was pretty much squished inbetween, and came off a few times while riding cos it couldnt fit over the carb fully. use to run like a bag of balls when cold, and had a dirty miss at low rpm. factory airbox solved all my issues, runs much nicer! time to get the seat upholstered, then bring on summer for unanimous amounts of ring dings
  13. turns out the parts guy at city honda is a massive moped/c50 foamer! has an immaculate c90 with ct110 engine. off the showroom floor spec. anywayz, went in to buy tube for rear wheel, and he ended up selling me his old tyres. some ling long lookin thing on the back, michelin m62 on the front 17x2.75 front, 17x3.00 on the rear. looks much better than the 2.25 original front tyre. the 3 inch on the rear rubs on the lip of the guard cos jdm stance nation as fuck. time to get the file out. next will be a good clean up, paint engine covers, side covers and wheels. then pop down to the man at VTNZ and get this puppy legal.
  14. cheers to chunky the good bastard i received a lot of parts i needed. r/h side cover, legshield, tail light lens, underneath of the fairing, and little locking ring for ignition. and hardtail struts for later on in the show after all parts on, looking very tidy!
  15. soo last night i ended up leaving sparkle's place with almost the entire contents of his shed... picked up a pretty sweet 80's spec suzuki FR50. missing quite a few bits which i hope to acquire in the near future. cant beat the trusty two stroke, cleaned spark plug, cleaned air filter, cleaned carb, adjusted idle slightly and now runs nicely! still dies after quite a while but hopefully a good long ride should bring it back to life. currently flat back tyre, missing the valve for my compressor to tyre pump so unsure whether deflated or punctured. rusty as fuck, gonna paint a few bits and leave a bit of horrific patina. in the next coming days i plan to give it a birthday, new fluids, plug and source a few parts from good dude Chunky, anyone else with spares let me know! would love to slap an 80cc motor in it if i can get my hands on one. last rego'd in 93, or is this a wof sticker? doesnt look like the old rego stickers you see on black plates. hopefully this wasn't registered as a motorbike... plan is to create a boned out QCR inspired moped to terrorise the streets of p naughty with. has anyone done an expansion chamber for one of these? need to maximise dorts! any thoughts or comments fire away!
  16. you will probs need give it a slight tune if you put one of those breathers on as they bog out if you go too hard on the throttle. i couldn't actually find one big enough for the carb so i ended up buying a super small pod filter for my bike. seen heaps of people run pod filters on them, theres probably no harm
  17. feel free to sell to me when you get sick of it lights symbol = turned on
  18. looking forward to this build! would love to see it restored, but anything that has twin expansion chambers will be amazing
  19. running a pod filter so that will be leaning mixture out. plug is always black though, might have to go up a jet size or something. will look at getting a proper tune. it always spluttered in 1st gear and when cold with standard exhaust, but never died on me or anything like that.
  20. whipped up a mount for both the speedo and ignition. really like how my instrument cluster looks now! quality was not this speedo's strong point, trying to crimp a connector on the positive end, the whole cable snapped off the bulb. will have to solder it back on when i need a light on my speedo haha enjoying how it looks, not enjoying how it runs. 4 stroking when cold (really spluttery in 1st, other gears fine) and dying on me. am only just beginning to teach myself the art of 2 stroke tuning, tuned it when first put on the pipe cos it was ridiculously rich and bogging out at a blip of the throttle. is this just a running in phase? or could it be more than fuel mixture? problems have only popped up since the temperatures have been dropping with winter and such. anyway it looks cool, even if it doesnt run well.
  21. tonight i got new bars and speedo put on! clubmans and a nice little speedo from modern motorcycle company. the mount on the speedo was not bendable at all (found out the hard way) so i mocked up a little mount for it to go on the left side. still have to tidy it up and get looking a bit nicer. also have a mount the ingnition into the other hole on the fork yoke, or could make a new one that holds both of them instead of two separate mounts. also have to wire up the speedo backlight. the joys of working at an indoor go karting place is that there is always shit lying round to use, and the boss man loves my bike so is always keen to help. really liking how its coming together. next i will cover the seat, a better taillight set up and perhaps a muffler to make myself a little less noticeable.. not that that's always a bad thing
  22. A few of us are organising a get together at the Cheltenham Hotel in Manawatu next Thursday (2 days after palmy plaza meet) 7 P.M. Would love to see a good turnout! Byo ministocks! Come and join the gang for a few quiets and some grouse pub meals. Word on the street is with the right crowd, Cheryl behind the bar gets her top off! But don't take our word for it, find out for yourself! have a go at the leather loungers! a pub loved by all kinds of celebrities! Leave a comment if you are keen so i have an idea on numbers or if you need any more information. Cheltenham is on highway 54, bout 15 mins north of Feilding and 30 from P town, towards Vinegar Hill way.
  23. that is unreal. loving the pipe. noticeable power increase?
  24. yeah had noticed the power ban was a tad sluggish. will take her for a ride this weekend. did you end up making a muffler for yours? kinda wanna look into that at some stage unsure what this will be like as a daily, an easy target to pull up then to find out its not registered. i also cleaned the exhaust port and got rid of 30 years of carbon so should run a bit smoother. might look at rebuilding top end soon, piston and gaskets are showing their age. and no need for parts but the owner of the fr80 i posted for sale last week is keen to buy it and restore/rat it out so someone do him a favour and help him fund another ax100
