That's a great idea tbh. I've already unbolted the slave so didn't really think about that I'll give it a go cheers

Is it a pull clutch?
The replacement is push clutch, so hoping it's the right one.

Evening Tech spammers. Got a shit of a prick of an arse of a gearbox I can't separate from a motor. Any ideas?
It's a 1az avensis with manual gearbox with slipping clutch.
Got everything apart I can see apart, 3 mounts off, crossmember is dangling but the gearbox is still stuck to the engine as if I hadn't touched it. Jacked up and down loads, had prybar on it, it'll seperate a mm or two but snap back into pos like it's bolted.
Am I being a dumbarse? First toyota fwd box I've done.

speak to royce clive engineering. they specialise in wheel refurbishment and blasting. they were very affordable about 4 yrs ago. they welded a crack, true'd up and blasted my wheels

Cars you own:Thames 400e, Prefect 107e
Mods to them (can be brief or detailed): Truck bored a bit, four branch, now 1800 from 1703cc, no power but great for fetching DIY stuff
Prefect has a small go faster engine and barpy exhaust, but has no torque. Both are 1960How you found out about oldschool: I was googling and found a thread by some bloke in NZ about a Thames, and 2 hours later I finished reading it
Anything else you want to add:
I am 56, and always have oil under fingernails. Ok?Gday. I'm from Birmingham. But don't tell anyone. Used to work in cradely a bit years back, at MIF filtersystems waterfall lane. And unicon on bell end lol. also Wednesday also plus Sandwell later on at smelters. Been all over.

Cheers for that info. Ill read through the link after work. I'm going to ring a certifier in chch soon(ish) and have a chat with him see what he says. I'm not going to go crazy or reinvent the wheel, it should hopefully be a pretty standard low volume. Wheels, suspension, seats, bigger capacity of the same same block. The brake lines have been modified and will need to be remade anyway. The turret style booster Is gone and he ran twin remote boosters from an MGB/jag for some reason. Unless it's a stupid price I will probably get a company to remake them. I've made a few flares and wof standard brake pipes but it's impossible to get it looking neat

Cheers for that. I'll email the resuseofplates and see where I need to go from there. I hope I don't need any old paperwork as I haven't tracked down any yet. 2 previous owners though so might be all good with that so far I dunno. Need to clean up the plates and get some pics of them in situ. Rusty screws and corroded rivets for the win!

Thanks Nick, Dan and Sam. The more people I speak to about it the more I can't believe it got it tbh. Seems most of christchurch was keen on it. Mental. It's a bit of an interesting car, seems to have mexico guards, tramp bars but a 2 clock dash. I'm trying to track down what it might be. Nz cortinas are a bit different to uk models and specs (and aussie ones too). I'm thinking escorts must be the same.

I spent most of the weekend removing parts and trying to catalog what I've got and what I'm going to need. I took out the comical home made single leaf suspension and wooden lowering block and re fitted the 3 leaf pack that he'd kindly left in the boot. Other than that it all pretty standard at this point. The wiring loom is a rats nest and just not saveable. The rear half of the car looks great at this point. From the b pillar back looks all saveable. I put it out the back for now with the other one for a bit of security and I'm going to talk to a panel beater this week about the A pillars and scuttle panel work and go from there.
Bog is never good, but I put my hand under it as far as I could (the c pillar bracing is there) and thought maybe it's just a dent! Hah. Optimism at its finest.
Why's it on its arse? Oh... that explains it. Also: Home made panhard rod.
I was trying to jack up the rear.
How much higher it sits with the correct leaf springs
her home will be next to the mk2 for a few months.

That's good to know. I might dab some black paint over them then. They are very straight but the front one is pretty stone chipped

All i have is a hand written reciept of sale but I put the cars rego on there and both mine and the sellers phone number and addresses. I'll I'll them and email cheers. I was trying to track dowb the previous owners as I though I'd have to provide a folder of receipts etc. This is really good news

Thanks guys. No doubt it's rough. But worse than that it's missing stuff, he made no excuses and said it was a parts car to finish his other one. But yeah. With prices the way they are I can't afford anything nice anymore. Just stoked to have the car and build something fun hopefully.

Discussion.
I did something stupid this week and impulse/panic bought my dream car (again). I pine over these things way more than any grown man should, always have. I owned one in my mid 20s in the uk and sold it late 2014 after it had sat In my dad's garden for a few yrs. I felt awful for selling it, awful for the State it had gotten Into whilst I was here in nz and awful because i no longer owned my favorite car in the world. This week one popped up on marketplace. I've often looked at them but this one was cheaper (relative) than most, and 10minutes from my house. The 'hi, is this still available' was sent and a phone number was returned. Quick chat to the guy resulted in 472 different build Combinations in my head in 24hrs after he said he was busy that evening but I could view it tomorrow. I asked him to hold it for me as I was keen and would likely buy it just wanted to get my head underneath it and check I wouldn't have to move it off his driveway with a shovel. He told me the next day he was surprised at the amount of interest and had folks get aggressive over messenger when he wasn't replying to their messages and had numerous offers of I'll come right now with a trailer' no shit. Anyway enough sharns. Pics time.
The first one. The day I bought it.
With my first love, the mk2 cortina.
This is them enjoying the British summertime.
And what I came back to after nearly 2 years in nz in 2014. This honestly broke my heart.
the new girl.
Home.
I've tracked down a previous owner from gore by chance through Facebook and I have a lead on a few other guys also so I'm trying to track down her history and see where she raced and who built it etc. Harness are date stamped 96. Plates went dead in 2002 and I'm going to apply to get the black plates reinstated although I think I need some more history for that. So fingers crossed. She needs one of everything but you can buy it all. I'm pretty sure a this stage I'm.going to ge the pros to replace the APillar and front scuttle area so the doors sit properly and I'll try and tackle the rest myself. This is what I'm aiming for (unsure on the spotlights but ermine white, 4 spokes, xflow and chin spoiler)
Excuse time. I wasn't planning on buying this and also wasn't planning on starting a build thread yet but here we are, so progress might be slow to start with. I need to make a proper plan this weekend, finish some other stuff and build a rotisserie. From there on who knows.
Joe.

Cheers for that. I'll have a proper look around it again but yeah, that's going to be difficult to pull off around the wheel tubs and up into the C pillars.
Thanks.

*Edit: I was looking at the wrong price. The plastic is 22.99, the chrome is 69.99..
Including shipping that's $188 Nzd. Not including any tax incurred at the border, if it was genuine I'd consider it, but I've used those numerous times in the uk on mk3 and 4 escorts, they last a few yrs and the lock breaks and you've got to drill them out. If the fuel filler mod Is viable though, I might continue and fit bucket seats and wheels, suspension etc, which I plan to do later anyway. This is the bit I'm unsure about though. The "fully sealed and impervious isolation panel" . If that means the whole boot area separate from the cabin I'm unlikely to bother tbh. Just spring for the expensive cap, or again if I can find an oe one that looks OK might graft that one on

Not really, it seems like there's a bolt I'm missing tbh. I got a prybar in it but snaps back shut instantly. It hasn't seperatd at all. I must have missed something
