  6. Out of interest I am keen to do this properly and be fully self sufficent, whats peoples location wise finding a place to set up a hammock?
  7. Run LED Bulbs in the Hilux and they are all good, got a wof on Wednesday with them and he was happy said the beam was nice n sharp, mine is an H4 if you want you can borrow it for a test? They are just Aliexpress specials with "Philips" LED in them.
  8. Some good thoughts there but if its scraping with just the rack on then to get it high enough to have a trailer on and it not hit the rack it would be about the height of the bottom of the tail light, fouling the rear door when opening. Also welding them as so ___,------- is not as strong as a straight piece of box section and while it may not make much of a difference its piece of mind when thats all thats holding your bike there. The idea behind having the mesh in the bottom is that it creates a handy little place to store smelly dirty things that you dont want in your truck eg petrol, firewood, oil and the box section acts as a lip allowing for shit tying down efforts to said items. Also having the horiziontals underneath as you can see they go under where the wheels of the bike go so the weight is not actually resting on the mesh frame but on the horiziontals. Having the horiziontals running through the box section would be weaker as the weight is no longer being supported by the steel it is supported by the weld. All this is just my opinion I tried to make it as strong as possible and engineer it in a way so the weight is supported by steel not welds. Would rather is went overkill and could carry heaps of weight then it break because it was too hard to lift your bikes front wheel. I beleive he is using a piece of wood as a ramp atm. Cheers
  9. Can confirm built one of these a couple of years ago as my only bike for riding to work when my car breaks down etc, suprisingly nice to ride its like riding a normal bike but you get to wave to truck drivers haha. Came off it a couple of months ago riding home from the pub and crashed into a fence so shes out of action but maybe its worth giving it sone attention and going for a tall bike cruise?
  10. ^how much not go does it not go? You can borrow my sparkplug?
  11. Its been unfortunately off to pretty slow start just been doing some bigger hours at work to pay for parts, good news is I ended up buy a manual. Its a small world ended up putting a post on Facebook and a guy in Hamilton had a 5 speed Toyota W50 box with a Castlemaine adapter that he had had forever. Turns out once talking to him he recognized the rotisserie frame from the photo and we figured out it was his old truck that he started building in August 2000. The Toyota box was what he had originally used to set up the chassis but he held on to the motor/ box when he sold it which has worked out well for me. The turbo 350 never lined up at all with the gearbox mounts so it was a pleasant surprise that the Toyota box fitted perfectly. He also found the driveshaft that he got built and balanced when he was building it, am super stoked. Im a little bit concerned that the box might be a bit small once I go to a hotter 350 in the long term but it should be sweet behind the 305 for now, apparently the stronger W series boxes are all about the same size and have the same bolt pattern so can always go bigger later. Here are some pictures the original owner gave to me of when he was working on it. And classic early 2000 Barry shot I love it And some pictures of the gearbox fitted up to the chassis At the moment the cab is at a mates I have been peeling the cowl off but this is how the chassis is sitting at the moment at home. Sorry my potato is not the greatest at night time photos.
  12. If anything lazy goes in it I can garantee it be dieseasel mmmm 6bt or duramax.
  13. Dont mind that but I hate fake patina, it just grinds my gears. That ^ is cool though good height and good wheels. Yeah 305 aint worth nothing just gonna run it till I have enough money then build up a good three fiddy.
  14. Pic for reference of colour scheme
  15. Yes its lush, not sold on the teal though may change it up later on will see how bad it looks. Was able to get in contact through Facebook with the old owner who did all the chassis work in 2000, brought a W50 off him for cheap which bolts on to the crossmember that is already on the chassis. Also gave me a balanced driveshaft so all is chur.
  16. Nah that will stay, thats the special shitter haha
  17. My name is Jeffy and this is my truck. Figured I should put up a build thread for this now that ive started working on this, shes a 1947 Chevrolet 3100 that I brought in February this year off my bosses mate just out of Hamilton. Until now I have had a few mid eighty's shitters pass through my hands but had always wanted to take on a proper project that I can put in some real effort into rather then just doing glorified maintenance. The dream had been to buy an early 60's Chevy pick up but they had always been out of my price bracket so figured it was not gonna happen in the near future but then this came up and after selling off a lot of excess cars and parts and a little bit of help from the bank of mum and dad we are where we are today. Im only an apprentice so progress will be slow as the money trickles in but im lucky to be surrounded by many knowledgeable people so I hope to be able to do all the work myself. Running gear: Mitsi L200 Chassis RX7 Batty brakes up front and a EA Falcon LSD rear end Refreshed 305 Chev converted to Carb with a Turbo 350. Have sold the box to fund a manual. Truck is NZ new so factory RHD Cab has been dropped over the chassis with the intention is for it to sit on bang on 100mm without having to lower the suspension. Im sure there is heaps more to say but first thing is to do all the rust in the cab so got it on the rotisserie in the weekend and started pulling the upper cowl off as its cooked. Ill put up more photos once ive figured it out. Discussion :
