  1. If there's a difference between the fwd and rwd 2gr alone then more than likely the block is different, the crank pattern appears to be the same going off what information is listed with those flywheels but then there's the likelihood of the ring gear working and the rest You're right, 8 kilos is probably better than nothing but still a bit portly
  2. Rockauto has these for the 1gr tacomas etc, probably not super light but by no means a dual mass, crank pcd appears to be correct? Looks like they take a spigot bearing in the flywheel too
  3. So, I still own this It got used for a daily for about a year or so, and I made a few more changes to it - t3 knuckles and modified the tension arms for more caster. And changed out the rear end to an 4.11 F code center from an mx73, with an Altezza torsen. Here's a terrible, old, cellphone picture of it about then; A little later while I was taking a short break from possessing a license I pulled the windscreen(s) out to fix up the rust that was coming along nicely in the lower corners of the rear screen frame, but didn't actually get around to actually doing that for a long time The 4a was getting pretty tired too - at some point i'd lost one of the filter socks and gave in and just ran nothing at all - so a life of hard work and then that, it was starting to experience pretty heroic levels of blowby. So was looking at doing a rebuild on that, but then I happened to be at Zebra looking for something unrelated, and found this in one of them mental WiLL VS doodads; A 2zz. No real idea what condition it was in but being zebra, it was cheap enough to get to just stuff around with Id actually already bought a j160 to put on the 4a - had a look at that, and the way a few key things on the 2zz were arranged (simple steel sump/pickup, easy waterlines etc) it actually looked pretty straightforward to make work in a rear wheel drive arrangement. Did a very rough 'adapter plate' to the j160, for a sort of proof of concept and threw it in the engine bay, it all fit a little too well I figured they already make 190hp standard, is all aluminium, has vvtli, gain 200cc, so why not really This is going back a little while now, and progress has been glacial (had a kid/wasting my time with other projects) but it looks something like this at the moment; Ignore the 20v throttles propped up with a bit of wood for artistic purposes but yeah it's mounted, the headers are now done, the j160 is more or less adapted, and the rust is fixed too I'll put up some more detail on that stuff soon discussion\tell me how stupid i am
  4. Sweet! Cheers dude, can't believe how much your car makes mine look like a 4x4 though, so good Thanks! Swaps for beams just saying This should probably happen
  5. Autoclutch in morningside built me something similar for my 1jz, gave them my whole clutch and flywheel, they rebuilt it all and did a full face kevlar plate to suit + loads more clamp on the cover. Worked great, can't say a bad word about those guys
  6. that's a plan then edit: those some sweet snaps dave
  7. Woah, thanks everybody! Man, i'm super happy with it, don't think i've had a car with shits and giggles factor this high. Ah yes, the "CLEAN ACEĀ®", it's an air purifier I think, not sure if i'd bother to get it working but I left it in there anyway 'cause it's weird/quirky Olsen ave's just down hillsborough rd from me actually, about a minute or so Yes, this is true, and I even have a 'jz but it's spoken for I'm there man, there's about a 50/50 chance i'm at that mexicali any given night anyway, i've got a real burrito problem. Sounds good! Soarers a z20 that's been off the road for about 84 years, but i'm workin on that problem I would actually kill somebody for a z10 however Ha, cheers, yep almost cracked half a mill now! p.s. stop making your starlet so mint you're making the rest of us look bad Cheers! Yep it's t series irs, stock, extremely open 4.1 at the moment, that's the next big thing to replace, a shorter ratio would be good too. Actually if anyone could tell me whether it's a big or small axle type that would be terrific Thanks! Sweet, ta41s must be getting really thin on the ground now, right? My friend is NicT, his car's on here, it's a ta63 Hurry up and finish yours, and I don't want to hear any more of these 'I have a newborn' excuses
  8. project - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48358-fongs-82-carina/
  9. Moving on After motor was in took care of the radiator and plumbing, jammed an electric fan in there etc, got it to a point where i could run it. Next was the wiring - bribed my mate with beer and promises of work done to his own carina, he came and worked his magic on the, pretty haggard loom that came with the motor. Had it running by that evening, after a couple of small hiccups along the way. After that, I went through and cleaned up some of the looms dodgy bits, an example; Got some wheels, ssr casablancas, 14x7 -1. Wouldn't mind them being wider, but for the moment they're pretty good Rolled around the garage floor for a weekend and made an exhaust, went with 2.5" and a couple of straight throughs. Left the end like that until enough people made fun of me and I cut it shorter Tied up a few more loose ends, then gave it a few easy drives. The tune on the link seemed pretty reasonable, and the cooling arrangement appeared to be working, so moved on to the extremely factory suspension. Scabbed some sleeved front struts, and changed over to mx73 calipers and rotors cause mine were a both bit stuffed. Picked a set late model suzuki swift adjustables off trademe for not much, mainly for the rear shocks - they were nice and short kyb adjustables, bolted straight in. As a bonus the fronts had the same diameter strut body, so harvested the threaded sleeves and perches, etc off those. Just running some dirty ol' trimmed falcon springs in the rear at the moment, they aren't too bad but were only ever a stopgap Was pretty happy about the way it was running so took it away to coromandel over christmas. Was most excellent, but made a several things pretty clear, the stock seats are total poo and cheap tires bought in a hurry suck, so bought some direzzas (would recommend) and chucked in the sparco out of my soarer (probably the best thing i've done to the car) Not a lot has changed since then, tidied up a the rest of the body loom in the engine bay and put a bit more thread on the castor arms and wound them up - a lot better but needs a wheel alignment/shorter steering arms. Looks a bit like this at the moment
  10. Hi everyone, been lurking around for good while now, thought I might put up a thread for my carina. It's a 1982 ta63, suited me because it had a t50 and was efi, I had enough stuff lying around to put a 4age in it easily enough. Bought it about a year ago off a certain Older Southern gent (cheers kyteler). Brought it up from invercargill over a couple of days, drove super nice didn't skip a beat Rolled around in bone stock glory for a few months, then grabbed a (very grubby) silvertop/link g1 setup a friend was selling. Cleaned it up a bit, made a few things - low mount alternator bracket, re-did the cooling system (now basically a 16v arrangement), did some engine mounts etc etc Soon after parked it up in the garage for a bit. Pulled out the 3t, gave the bay a bit of a rub-a-dub Around about that point I discovered exactly why 3a(?) bellhousings are less than ideal, so turned it into a 4a bellhousing because i'm a cheapskate/was in a bit of a hurry to get the whole thing done before the christmas holidays. Worked out well, just jigged the positions of everything off the 't' bellhousing which had the fork on the right hand side Got the gearbox fitted up and put it all in there, plenty of room, should have got two 4ages I'll leave it there for now!
