  1. currently still own this and its still not going... took it to kumeu last year running on 7 cylinders so after that i pulled it apart more. pulled the inlet manifold off as it was bent and had that machined and checked the lifters to find out of the 3 i checked were worn out or broken a spring inside. so motor out this is the second time now And took it to work and stripped it down And in the strip down process i found one of the headgaskets had been placed on the wrong way causing no water flow on one of the cylinder heads. if the gasket says front i don't know how much clearer the gasket manufacturer could of been. placed the block in the hot tank to give it a good clean out and gave the heads a strip down too then they were also placed in the hot tank too to which the block was placed in the tank for the 2nd time due to rust in the water galleries. once it came out i bead blasted the water galleries and the outside. then i dug some more of the stuck crap in the water gallieries by stabbing it with a screwdriver. and then went round the block with a finger file and die grinder to tidy up the block casting this did somewhat get abit over the top too. and die grinded the oil pick up mick bigger as are small from factory. then hot tanked the block again. And this is where the can of worms started
  2. That's the plan but currently waiting on an msd distrubtor to come from the states a Wof some exhaust work and to do some miles on the fresh engine if it's not ready then I'll just be rolling in other workmates v8s
  3. will be going this year also will try and head down before friday but will see how work plans out
  4. sweet ute! have found that white vinegar is good for cooling system flushes. put couple litres in with water and let it run through a few heat cycles and drain it. it surprised me how much crap came out.
  5. Im liking the progress and where this project is heading. when you swap the lsd diff centre over could you do a bit of a story on that as interested to see how that goes
  6. when is the plan to respray the outside of the car? also going to give the outside a go yourself or the usual do the jams and send the rest to the painter?
  7. I should really keep my mouth shut but the OCD in me can't haha you should change your studs on the waterpump pulley to some nice stainless button head cap screws please and thanks may not look bad with the motor in the car though just looks bad outside the car in my opinion. also paint the end of the waterpump pulley housing black? as its probably steel and will rust but hard to tell from the photo
  8. motor is 90% done had been waiting for parts which have got now but couldn't work on the engine due to it being at work and having the workshop floors being painted. plan is going for beach hop and Nats
  9. for the colour choice were you thinking the candy apple red on the new mazda 6's and cx3's? if so that colour is nice. also what did you use to strip the paint in the engine bay? looks pretty good

if need be you can get a ford rear brake hardware kit which includes the cable you need. http://www.northwesternford.co.nz/brake-hardware-c-113_205_384.html this guy is good to deal with also i have always phoned and ordered the parts
  11. would be good to see this out and about again not that i have actually seen it in its flesh but ya know with your ignition side of things in the past i have found many of the old distributors have timing skatter (not consistence) or may not have the right advance curve to see the full engines power. plus are not normally a really good strong spark. in the past have fitted ICE igintion systems which is an Australian company to a 265 valiant with much success would recommend on a performance 265 not cheap too but good
  12. Nice job on the power steering rebuild and all the other work of course good quality as always have also done a few power steering rebuilds myself but definitely not to the precision as you have normally i just wet and dry sandpaper the plates and rotor if it needs it then reassemble it with some rubber grease to help with the first time it runs. mine were never noisey though just leaked. but will use your precision next time i do one though hope your back is healing up good
  13. same here would attend also don't currently have an OS car legal or running
  14. yes! that was a great idea and i would've gone if i hadn't already watched it would recommend the movie to everyone 10/10
  15. Ever watched a awesome movie at home by yourself and then have no one who is at all interested to tell them about it. well here is the potential game changer mate And this came to mind after watching some great car films within the last 6 months and thought it would be great if it became an 0S event. to bring some like minded people together so my idea is that get a whole bunch of Auckland OS members together for a oldschool car themed movie evening and the idea would be sometime in the weekend evenings unfortunately can not host the event but im sure someone else could but can provide shit sharns seen as OS in auckland has no other meeting events on let me know on your ideas and thoughts Cheers MATE
  16. just do them until there is a nice clean lap mark all the way round. but you may not get the whole face of the valve seat which is fine. another thing to do is put bearing blue on the valve face and let the valve drop on the seat and see how much is contacting. also valves and seats may need refacing on a machine depending on the wear. also check the valve guides aren't too worn too And make sure the head/valves gets a good clean after lapping them in too hope this helps
  17. I haven't given up. abit sick of seeing it sitting in the garage though. but a car cover helps hide that haha been currently working on the engine but at 1 day half days progress is slow
  18. also personally would get it blasted then etch prime black then a good black over the top. would recommend a protec or ppg product myself
  19. yes on autoblast being expensive. got my car done somewhere else at half of there quote
  20. After running the engine with the new spark plugs and there is no miss. Then removing the plugs when the miss appears what condition are all the plugs in? particularly no 4 This also might help identify what the plugs are doing.
  21. can you guys help take down the neon signs after a big feed thanks boys
  22. Figured this thread suited this best. Got given these ramps and axle stands by the neighbor. They were all covered in surface rust and figured I should blast and paint them being the weirdo I am Gave them a spray can primer. Then had to decide on a colour I didn't want a normal blue red or black. so caterpillar yellow/mustard they went. also gives me an excuse to get some spray gun experience And unfortunately can't post any photos of the axle stands due to file size
  23. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/chevrolet/auction-2241434027.htm?rsqid=3da44eafa457424f9dd65f9b918f20fe-001 perfect for next years cruiser mate will help get going etc will help flip leafs
  24. so last year in 4 weeks i stripped the front and resprayed the engine bay. gave the engine some new parts and a spray can rebuild. chucked it back together as i wanted to take it to an event. got it mostly done the night before the event worked till 2am that night. did some more in the morning as had carb issues. then took it to the event and hoped for no breakdowns. i had pushed myself to finish it in time as a woman wanted to go to the event together and was keen to go in my car. plus would've been extra brownie points right? but it turned to shit before the event. but ended up taking a male mate instead. was good but still overheated... been super slack and haven't been updating this thread will try and update it in the next few weeks yeeah
  25. motor is still in bits.. been making progress but slow due to doing other stuff and trying to get the machinist to come in on and Saturday and help work on it. did some stuff last Saturday but couldn't assemble heads due to wrong valve stem seal but should be sorting that this sat its Actually quite depressing when ive spent more time working on it than ive ever driven it.
