  1. a cold balmy death. sparkle, dolan and i all have babies / toddlers so weeknights aint too ideal.
  2. so after some pretty cool missions pesting on the ct in the last 6 months - So after some long thought I have decided to get rid of it for a couple of reasons, A, i have too many bikes. B, its worth a lot of money (comparatively speaking). C, its a bit slow. D, i wanted a slighty larger dual sport bike and E, im a bit tall for it and have to have the bars raked forward on a massive angle. So in trademe it went and it is now sold for a very tidy sum. So that got me onto what i replace it with, im a Honda fan boy so it started there and also i wanted to spend fuck all. Was looking for road legal XR250s for a while when i noticed this haggard as fuck one on trademe local, so i popped down for a look thinking it was going to be rooted was owned by a british expat who had had it for the last 5 or so years and his mate had it before that since pretty much new. it has been road legal since 1993 (its a 1991 XR250R), the fact its an R is quite ideal as it has no battery to go flat and is a bit lighter. Turns out its got super low kms for one of these, genuine 11,000kms, mechanically it is ace and has no smoke or anything. the guy was a bit of a dweeb that thought he would make it look better by rattle canning the faded plastic black, so it needs a full aesthetic tidy up. he had the airbox and stuff so that will all go back on, so after a short test ride where i determined it went very hard for what it is and suspected a 280cc upgrade i grabbed it on the trailer since getting it home i have got some second hand side cover plastics en route, have ordered a polisport enduro headlight setup, CRF250 white front guard and a second hand rear guard which @Shakotom is gunna be the man and collect for me. I pulled the carb apart and the main jet is drastically bigger than stock and pilot one size bigger than stock so i think the feeling of a 280cc kit might be right, the cycleworks exhaust is also an added bonus, and the fact the entire thing cost me $1200 with rego on hold. Plan is to finish the ST90 100% and push that in the corner then strip the XR back to bare frame, slap some black paint on it, assemble with new plastics and replace some bearings and shit. i already sanded the tank right back and it has the yellow fuel stains that these all get so will get a cover off ebay for it, might go with a white/black/grey color scheme. then go smash some cool trails on it! just need @Dolan to get a 250 now too
  3. So my upgraded shocks from dratv turned up today so I did a little work on the st tonight. Rear brake Cam is siezed so I need to pull that apart. Other that brakes it’s just fuel tank, wiring and zorst until this thing is finished now. Oh and footpegs which are on their way. a bit unsure how to mount zorst. It’s gunna be custom made of stainless, needs to finish before the shock ideally. Probably end up drilling a hole in the frame and mounting somewhere like this or slightly lower than this
  4. i have had pretty good patina success on both the rusty trombone and the st90 by giving it all a nice light wet sand with 1000grit, then a hard cut and a polish then a rub down with teflon type marine wax. the c50 is gunna be extreme patina tho, speaking of - gave this the the chop chop, for being mega surface rusty this thing is pretty solid and has no holes. Looking at brendon from QCRs c90 as inspiration i want to do similar with a bit of a twist. going to keep narrow 2.25" front tyre on the skinny 1.2 c50 rim and have whacked a c90 1.40 rim on the rear and will eventually run a 2.75 or 3.00 china tyre similar in style to the front. a old style bridgestone or whatever they are would look sick but probs pretty spendy. will jam some of the flat ribbed for extra please side covers from craze bali on as well. will give this thing a good wet sand when i get a spare hour or so and see what it comes up like, grey should come through a bit better in other scoot news i have waggys rv50 here getting the shit engine mounting re done and a brand new lifan 110, have got new location all mocked up, hopefully finish it at nights this week ST90 is just waiting on new shocks from murica and a couple of spokes to be made for the rear wheel then will look more complete, i brought a massive tank liner kit as i have 4 average bike fuel tanks i need to clean, etch and line and last of all i havnt even collected the CB50 yet but today i aquired a 1976 xl175 that was complete and a good runner but a VMX mate stripped part of it for some stuff he needed and was getting rid of the rest very cheap. will probs give the engine a wee freshen and jam it in the CB. dont know much about these engines, dont even know if it will fit, pretty sure they are CDI, im guessing will be shitty 6 volt which is gay, maybe some kind of 12 stator will fit? these things i do not know but im sure i will find out.
  5. I mega Pine the patina Honda tank eh, nice brat style seat in black behind it should look choice. Would rather avoid making it look like a skyteam dream copy
  6. Aaaaaaand because I seem to like filling my shed with bikes at the moment why not add another to the list. The Pine is strong for this one though, 1985 Honda CB50. After DGR last year and getting a soft on over the welly boys choice small Honda scrambler builds I have been looking for a CB/CG for the right price for a while, moped reg makes this one a mega win. Don’t know what plans are for it yet, def keep patina tank, will hoon it as is for a while and then figure out what I wanna do
  7. yea rodgee ill be ditching all that gay stock shit. also anyone know of any 1.85" 17" 36 hole rims? can on the rear of all small capacity CBs, some XRs etc, i want for this but dont want to pay shipping for a new one from thailand. pleeeease and thankyous
  8. so ct90 above sold to one very happy chap down in lower hutt, aaaaaaaaand then another scoot appeared
  9. well i meant to get a heap of ST90 stuff done this weekend but that just didnt happen. a deal popped up on friday and i wasnt going to grab them but no one else was keen and i knew i could make one mint bike out of two to sell for profitz and make a good runner but just a bit rough around the edges from the other one so spent all afternoon Saturday and most of the day Monday swapping bits over like bars and switch gear, wire wheeling all the chrome, buffing and polishing everything! came up pretty bloody good! still a few little things to do like glue the edges of the seat down, put the red side cover on, there was an oil leak from a shagged clutch cover gasket so i pulled that all off and cleaned everything (the oil filter screen was jammed with gunk) and will get a new gasket this week. bike has had the rings done 100km go and is a great runner, kinda cheesing it really but i don't need a second CT. back onto the ST at nights this week, hopefully get the frame pretty much rolling
  10. yea id wait and just put money aside and then do heaps of cool shit at ones. The best barrel kits for these from all my research are the polini Corsa, which are about $300 for the barrel and piston kit etc. because of the mission of tuning these things your best to save up and do cylinder / carb& manifold / exhaust all at ones, then tune your gearing to get it spot on.
  11. choice man! sooooo many opportunities for these things. im have an af18 in my nifty and after nothing but a chinga pinga variator and $8 cdi it does about 75kmh pretty easily. Raizer is the man to talk to about scooter tuning, $5-700 thrown at this thing and you will have it pulling sick wheelies and doing well over 100kmh. if for some reason is goes nunga nunga on you i have 5-6 piston kits for one sitting on the parts shelf. playing with scoots seems to be such a new dad hobby, especially down here with us penny pinchers, shits cheap as, you can achieve lots in 30min-1hr stints in the shed and rides get you away from whinging wives, win.
  12. anyone have any pit bike parts lying around? im after a 14" disc brake front end that isnt fucked. facebook market place is letting me down, dumb people that think a chinese pitbike with a blow engine is worth $700 mayyyte ya dreaming
  13. man this shit is pic heavy for one page! edit - win, new page finally
  14. so i got a wee bit done to this thing over the holidays. completely stripped it down and gave the frame a cut and polish which has come up pretty good. decided against the clear coat, will just keep it well waxed. had some choice vintage style squishy grips turn up for my choice but unknow bars. i thought they were BMX at first but must be off something motorised as they had factory holes in them for wires to run from switchgear i stripped the lifan150 down to replace the top end, bead blasted the barrel and head and then lapped in new valves and rebuild the head with the new cam, rockers etc etc it was then i noticed the crank had about 1.5mm of side to side play, the bearings were moving in the case, an indication it had been hot / out of oil, which would explain why the top end was koozed. i went and spoke to a very highly regarded bike mechanic (ex uk husaberg MX team head mechanic and british 250cc MX champ) and he had a look at it and reckoned it use some loctite 620 high strength high temp oil resistant bearing retainer and it would be sweet as, so will go back together with a bit of that. so i split the case and pulled everything apart as i wanted to give it all a good clean, good thing i did cos there was a bit of yuck alloy paste / old oil in the oil pump and bottom of the cases. nothing a good dousing of brakekleen wont fix so yea just waiting for a couple of bits to arrive and ill throw the engine back together this weekend and paint it and get it mounted in the bike. then to start sorting the rest of it. i have a big box of bead blasted bits ready to paint, and have polished all the alloy bits so shouldn't take too long from here on. currently also hoping to track down a 14" pitbike front end, after @Shakotom showed me this photo below im kinda pining having lush front suspension and brakes
  15. sorry chaps im out, tooooooo many things on at the mo. have locked it in eddy for taupo ride tho, the other bum ticklers are keen as too
  16. so with the C50 project out of the way i decided i needed to build another old small capacity honda. cue this piece of shit that i managed to get for a pretty good deal - Shes a 1973 honda ST90, the big 14" wheel version of a DAX / CT70. These this are quite rare as they were only made for 3 years, and have a strong barry following in the states, so barrys heads are gunna roll when i murder it / how dare you put a chinese engine in an st90 plan is something similar along the lines of this road legal pitbike spec that does wheelies etc. like the trombone it has delicious patina, think i might get it jizzed on with a few coats of clear this time. will tidy a few things up but the frame will remain patina as. this week i got a hella deal on an OG 150cc lifan engine that had a shagged cam. these 150's stopped getting put in pit bikes a few years ago in exchange for the yx140 engines like i put in the c50, turns out the reason was cost as they lifan was much more expensive. According to pit bike barries the 150 lifan is as quick as a cammed yx140 and they have more torque / are an all round better engine. this one only cost me $80 and came with a genuine VM26 plunger type mikuni, these carbs are over $200 new. Also came with cdi, oil cooler, throttle and a bunch of other bits. I smacked an order on aliexpress today for - cam, valves, retainers, collets, valve springs, full gasket set, new piston and rings, stem seals, new rocker arms, came to a whopping $79, gotta love china engines. so yea hopefully get the engine mounted over the xmas break and a few other little bits done, in between rally car rebuilding and house renos anyway. these frames do not take a china / honda engine as they had a weird 3 bolt engine like the SL90s as opposed to 2 bolt everything else. so i need to make an adapter mount which will be a bit tricky (and no, its not the same as early ct90 / c90 etc, they are still 2 bolt). so yea, looking forward to wheelies on this thing.
  17. @Dolan @Sparkle we need to get some bum pinchers at this ride other that just myself. Im sure all these auckland / tauranga fags think that you guys are my imaginary friends
  18. had a heap of extra footage so i whacked a video together just off my chin mounted GoPro, less fun antics than the above video but shows some of the choice riding that was on offer
  19. i have been crook for the last 2 days with some kind of virus, temp is down to 38.4, thats only mild right, im sure riding scoots in the middle of no where will sort it out
  20. WOhoooo I am locked in! Come on @My name is Russell get onto it! So fucking pining right now for some lush CT110 hoons
  21. did some sweet hoons on this thing couply weeks ago down at DGR welly. Had a good ride with Russ and the boys on saturday out to makara beach and she ran without fault, its pretty deafening / hilarious to ride and gets a good share of attention. So i can tick this project off as complete, on to the G/S paris dakar resto now
  22. yea showing a written copy of the rules might help answer this question, often in motor sport they state what you can do, not what you cant do
  23. i cant see a way around it tbh, making something like a phantom grip is still technically a limited slip diff, the rules are obviously there for a reason. anything you do to make it lock under load is limited slip. Just run it as per rules.
