  1. Taking her in for a wof some time in the next week, hopefully shouldn't need much. She was showing no signs of wanting to start at all which was strange even after sitting for so long, because she usually starts first pop regardless. Quickly figured the dizzy was 180 out hahaha Sorted that and she fired up straight away to discover my radiator had somehow sprung a large leak. So I installed another radiator as well as one of those electronic ignition kits, new leads, rotor and upgraded coil. New setup: Starting, idling and revving well now. Splutters and idles low after being revved a bit, but i'll put that down to the year old gas and dirty carb for now, not a big issue.
  2. Hey, so this was my first car, a Mk4 Cortina. Bought it in Hawke's bay a few years back and she's pretty tidy. Daily drove it for a couple years with no problems at all, now i'm at uni in Christchurch so it lives in the shed back home. Hoping to get some work done on it in the breaks. Not a very good photo; The source of all that power; Boot full of spares and parts I haven't got around to installing/replacing... Previous owner reversed it into a trailer so there's some damage on the boot etc. Other than that she's pretty tidy. Have done the clutch and rear brakes recently, need to do the front now as the brakes are pretty wicked. Next things to do will be to get her running nicely again then convert to electronic ignition. Hopefully get the extractors in the boot installed at some stage too. Discuss
  3. The picture of the paint colour is bad but the colour did change after a good stir. Now it's a nice 'flourescent mint green' a bit brighter and lighter than the last picture haha Got all the sills and stuff painted, need to do a little bit of body work tomorrow, then i'll put it together again to paint the rest I like the colour it's turning out, something different from the rest. The paint was cobwebbing bad to start with, but after some adjustment I got a good spray going, I'm having to keep the fan small to avoid the silly string look haha I've never painted a top coat before so this will be a learning experience, so we'll see how it goes!
  4. Over the last couple of months I've got a bit done. Engine's back together with all the new gaskets, plugs etc. New oil and changed the diff and gearbox oil. Car's been fully stripped and primed Doesn't look too bad in tan haha. Nice to have it all the same colour It's gonna be a nice old school 'mint green', got a bad picture of the colour it will be Can't wait to have it back together and out of the garage
  5. Escort has no panels on it at the moment, progress on the body is slow and steady. Hope to get it primed and ready for painting in the next few weeks. Pulled the head off to give the engine a tidy up since my gasket set arrived. Stripped and cleaned with new valve stem seals. Also new spark plugs and thermostat. Once it's back together I just need to sort out the carb and ignition timing and it should run sweet,
  6. Hi, so this weekend I got a new project car. Have had a Sierra wagon and have a Cortina already as a daily so thought I'd get another Ford and have always wanted a Mk2 Escort. One was for sale in the bay so I thought I'd go give it a look, and came back with this: Mildly rusty Mk2 with a 1300 in it, No wof/rego The mighty 1300 One battery and a clean-up and it was looking better Gave it a flush and some new oil and filters and it was running, definitely needs some new plugs. Had to borrow the battery from the Cortina as it didn't come with one. Ordered in some brushes for the alternator as it's pretty dodgy, should get them in a week or two. First business is fixing the rust so I can take it in for a wof.
