  1. Always good to be reminded when you don't do this stuff everyday though. Us old farts forget a lot you know.
  2. Chur. I'll bung it back together on the weekend and see how it goes. Bolt holes are all good and yep washers under the headbolts, ky gel all round.
  3. @Seedy Al OK, radiator has been away and come back cleaned out, 30 % blocked so wasn't a big part of the problem. Have put a new waterpump (old/new water pump was leaking from the seal) and thermostat in. Also a new radiator cap to go on. Pulled the head today and no sign of a blown head gasket. Head is a new Kiwi cylinder head. I have a new Kiwi 3y head gasket that lines up well with the head water ports etc. The only thing I noticed when undoing the head bolts is they didn't seem to be uniformly tight which would have shown up with a mark on the gasket I would have thought ??? Any bright ideas out there ? bung temp sender ?? In having a look at the Kiwi cyl. heads gasket, there is a port missing at the front that there is corresponding holes in both block and head. Ol cobber Josh at Manawathree Toyota ( Mark was on Tinder in the dunny) sent me a pic of the genie Toyota piece and it is also missing the port in the gasket ???? Head pic shows the port upper left just below the headbolt hole.
  4. Looking at pics of them both, there are slight differences in them but don't look to be a problem. IRL looking at them could be different ? I will pull the radiator during the week and get it rodgered.
  5. Thanks guys. Water pump was replaced but by the look of the water, the radiator wasn't cleaned out, pretty crusty in there. In looking round the internets, the 3y/4y gasket matching head vs block seem to differ ? Will check with PO next week re rad and t/stat though. The rad cap looks a bit shite too so won't hurt to chuck a new one on.
  6. I bought a '92 Townace van cheap today. Due to some overheating issues the PO has replaced the head with a new 3y/4y head but has used the 4y headgasket and it has been overheating still since, although not to the boiling stage. He was told after he should have used a 3y gasket but as it was his work van bought another and put this aside. As Seedy Al seems to be the resident BHG guy, maybe he can shed some light as to the 3y being different to the 4y ??
  7. I guess so ? Getting steering box etc centred took a few push/pulls up and down the drive first. I rebuilt my steering box too, so no loose stuff to upset measurements.
  8. 1/8 " worked well on my F100 with crossplies. I measured the outer tire edges.
  9. Aussies used to put them in everything. Looks a bit like one to me, been awhile since I looked at an Aus street rod mag though.
  10. Is it a Chrysler Centura ?
  11. Knocked up another ramp for the kids. Not really that flash with wood but it was here so got the nod..
  12. Give Hannah a gentle hug mate from me will ya ? She is a bloody trooper that girl.
  13. The Molasses has taken some paint off these Model A parts but not all of it. I would probably say no.
  14. Yes, that is right too. The Molasses will at least etch a machined surface. I was at Kumeu a few years ago when someone was selling Evaporust. They had a Flattie block half submerged that would come out to show the results. It too you can handle short term minus gloves but ?? I got sucked in to buying a 20 litre. My results have definitely varied from good to shit. Good on light rust but shit on heavier rust. I have a Villiers 2 stroke that I pulled out of 44 gallon drum rusted pretty good in the bore. I have tried most brews ( ATF/acetone, CRC, Diesel, petrol/oil, brake fluid, Evaporust, Molasses, Coke and heating the barrel and cooling with and without fluid) with no luck yet on getting it to budge. For me so far, I like the Molasses, I'm in no hurry as such so it can chomp away as it does. Might try the citric on my Villiers though ?
  15. The wire wheel on rust only takes off loose or surface rust in my experience and really just polishes heavier rust.
  16. Yep, there are several ways to skin a cat. This was merely an example of how Molasses works all by itself. This might be considered messy if you are a poof and don't want to dirty your delicate hands but I wouldn't put my hands in a tub of phosphoric acid when by bracket falls off the wire ? No offense intended Spencer. I got my Molasses free from our Office Lady at work to trial its use, the drum was a freebie also. I'm up $80-00 woohoo !
  17. Nah, haven't given that a try. Molasses works good for me, no hurry and no fluffing round. Dunk whatever in, pull it out and scrub, redunk and usually done. Would be interesting to watch the process though.
  18. Here's another comparison. Reasonably heavy rusting. See dates on pics for time in tub.A brush off with a scrubbing brush, then a quick wiz over with a ss wire brush (hand)
  19. And done. 30 metres of steel, 2 sheets of ply, 174 self drilling but pre drilled SS screws later and some swearing.
