  1. Cool, have a go. I see this one has an LED under the tube, for extra heater glow? (LoL) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005125142338.html I don't see audio transformers in the kits I've glanced at, and I suspect a lot of the sound you liked is in the big valve power stage with the 300V to 8ohm iron output transformer, but, have at!
  2. I ah, have a set of photocopies of Marshall etc circuits (hand drawn - no less). May include marshall valve amp circuits. Want me to scan some up? Shit, come to think of it, I prolly have some valve transformers and caps lying around in the junk bins. One channel may have used an old TV knob, which went to 11
  3. Closer. The root cause is putting software crypto locks on things, and not giving the crypto keys to the owner. Manufacturers can literally prevent any competition, high quality or not. It's exactly the same crypto chip. See also: John Deer parts replacement, McDonald's icecream machines, artificial retinas after the Co goes broke, etc. Have you noticed you can't buy any software for your iPhone except through the Apple Store, so Apple get to clip the ticket for 30%. Of that entire fucking industry segment.
  4. Wait 'till you see the price of the security chips: https://octopart.com/search?q=pcf7946ac&currency=USD&specs=0 (Yep USD$3) - I'm kind of surprised the dealers aren't burned down on a weekly basis.

  6. I have a 5YO in the house, by definition, I'm probably a plague carrier. I'll do a RAT test in the morning.
  7. I have a couple of phones with NFC (and various dodgy software), but you'll have to find some data to stick on 'em?
  8. Ah yeah, knew this was coming eventually: (the chinese in the comments)
  9. Water at 15psi boils at 125C, not sure how far antifreeze pushes that? Also, heat moves due to temperature difference just like fluid flow moves from pressure difference. Lots of coolant flow into a rad means a higher temp in the rad, so more temp diff to atmosphere, so larger overall heat flow into the cooling air (will heat the air more, with heat from the coolant, from the engine).
  10. I saw this, and thought it might catch your (related) interest: https://hackaday.com/2020/01/02/roll-the-bones-chernobyl-style/
  11. circuit diagram pics (sketch on napkin, and faxed from your uncles' shop is traditional) of wiring and model numbers of bits rather helps if want opinions.
  12. Family are likely staying around Chch a fair bit, so will probably make an arvo or two of doing this. Let's know what days folks are ken on.
  13. I have bought accessories for the tiny BBQ which will be brought in the tiny POS. Am debating updating to a smaller model (cooker) after this outing...
  14. I'm sure that @Romandayf already has a phone alert that tells him about these ... Pick-a-Part Vehicle Alert: Toyota Prius NHW20 10/03-06/09 https://www.pickapart.co.nz/webpage/WebPage.asp?Ref=10381&VehicleID=175355&Location=pickapartconz
  15. I did exactly that with a $60(?) TP-Link, worked like a charm. Just had to config it exactly like they said, there was some weird non-intuitive setup thing where they broke all the usual setup conventions.
  16. Could be / maybe. You also may find you'll need e.g. a powered USB hub to supply enough grunt for the writer. Have a go!
  17. Can I humbly suggest you do another crowd funding before drags? If you have $$/unaccountable slushfunds in unmarked Colombian pesos which definitely don't smell of bananas/spare block on the bench at home, I reckon that'll translate to 0.177 @RUNAMUCKunits of reduced mechanical sympathy, probably good for about , yeah, about 9.5ms per gear. I for one would throw beer money at that, just for the repeat ensuing shits and giggles, like aiming for actual real max RPM analysis.
  18. Ze wipers weel only travaille teu heures, and zen weel demand a comfortable rest.
  19. Related, I think? You may know all this stuff already, but I liked this summary explanation on how to wire stuff up, choose fuse sizes etc, (he chose different connectors, but most of it stall applies). SuperFastMatt how to wire up your car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSXv8RHa22I
  20. There used to be these bass driver thingies which were a mass on a speaker coil you'd bolt to your floor/ chair for movie thump. What were they called? My google-fu is failing me. TiA
