1 year wofs for cars that are 10 years old. This is a rolling date.

6 months wofs for everyone else. While we are responsible motorists, you only have to look at the state of some of the cars and vans driven around here that shows there is a blatant disregard for maintenance when it comes to new New Zealanders and tourists.

the simple fact that people can back out of/ enter  their garage during darkness, and not pick up on the fact that one headlight has blown, truly fecken astounds me. what other obvious things do not compute behind their retinas

So it looks like this is a thing. I have entered and paid. I'll be co-piloting the Sigma down from Tga with @MaxPower. The mighty Sigma is being handed over to its proud new owner at Hamner so We are looking for a ride from Hamner to Chch Airport on Monday morning. I think our flight leaves around mid day. @HighLUX will probably be joining us too. Can anyone help with airport transfers?

    possibly.
have not decided our plans before/after event, but Kaikoura and west coast are on the radar

  3. same set-up as GT4, but different ratios are the 2 versions of 4WD carib. need Raghead to join up as he obsessed, but 1600 and 1800 are different, unsure if transfer ratios the same.
    pre-ABS models have lockable centre/transfer.

  4. they both plentiful and only as reliable as previous owner.
seem to be the new 'street drift' car as all the good jap RWD stuff is worth moonbeams

coil packs on early v6 Commodes can be problematic, as are P/Steer pumps, and suspension behaves like a bowl of jelly. VATS , when equipped can be super sh1tty. Early VE's should all have upgraded racks/diffs , so shouldn't still be an issue

falcon 6 from rural areas need to have a good look at cooling system, as 'hard' water , and lack of  anti-freeze/de-mineraliser, often leads to H/Gasket failure No.5/6 cylinder. care needs to be taken when waterblasting / steaming cleaning as dizzy gets wet and blows the ignitor ($$$). if head needs doing DO NOT think one can re-use head bolts, they are throw-away, even if 'in-spec'   Smart-Lock , when equipped, can be super-shitty, ensure you have a spare key for when it's locks all doors with keys inside !!

only personally owned VN manual wagon, but serviced repaired several at previous employment about 15 years ago

to be fair on Taiwan, a lot of the decent mid-range brands originate there. BC, Fortune Auto, XYZ etc all come out of Taiwan.

Maxpeedingrods is the finest of Chinesium trash.

Taiwan has/had better cred than most China made................. once upon a time Taiwan ROC and HongKong made good-ish gear

NZTA hasn’t been LTNZ since 2008.

As far as the petition goes. I’m in the same boat as Clint. If you saw the shit I see as a WOF inspector, you would be against No WOF for old cars. I’d vote for 12 month WOFs for everything.

looking at some of the basic failures on vehicles with 12 month WOF, many should go back to 6, somewhat akin to COF. if one gets failed on same item each time, then sticker duration is reduced. the sheer amount of bald tyres, fecked wipers and illumination defects is out the gate............ as some people never actually inspect their vehicles, just expect the WOF man to be kind to them

Yeah I figured that aswell, I’d aim to have the shocks spaced out as far as possible to the factory offset to the chassis.

the spacer idea seems far easier to accomplish with less risk of error and less welds

Paul, is it only upper balljoint that is binding ?
if so, can you raise the inner, upper mounting point to flatten the the upper arm ?

    Cheers guys, I’ll go HKB

This is the one I nicked off my mr2, didn’t notice anything untoward about it but will go back and have a look

A past owner had installed it with what appears to be a genuine Momo wheel. It has the ‘’made in Italy” engraved on the rear. So perhaps this boss kit is legit..

    isn't Italy, a suburb of Beijing ?

So it looks like @sr2 is on the money in terms of me having to make up a "box full of electronic trickery" to get the park function to work, especially considering that I want to control the main functions through a simple double pole on-off-on toggle switch.

Simon, it you are able to put together a solution for me I'd be eternally grateful as my OCD just can't cope with the wiper blades stopping any old where.

so Misti deffo didn't use a 'wiper control' relay like most Toyota did, to control this part of the switching ?

2 years i believe, may have been one .
work had a import petrol Navara that needing re-compliance due to the timeline, but the regs had change between compliance tests and needed a 'sniffer' jammed up it's bum........had to lean it to the point of melting plugs and pinging to pass !!

Im genuinely not being sarcastic, how do you earth the frame of a 100% wooden building?

a crimped lug attached to frame of panel, and/or the roof/ground ali mounting frame (often sandwiched) to a cable to a driven earth stake, i could be wrong, but the charge controller is earthed to same stake........... if am wrong about coupling the panel and controller earths.... best some tell me, at that is how i was told to do it

To be fair, WoFs are one of the least profitable things most workshops do.

Let's assume a normal retail hourly rate of $130.  This gives you just over half an hour to do a WoF at our current charge of $69... Before you take into account the $4 for the label and check sheet.  The average new vehicle WoF takes 45mins - with an old rusty shitter or more complex vehicle taking up to hour and a half (extra time to look things up in the virm and check rulings).

Plus the risk vs reward is rubbish.  Miss some defects and potentially get your WoF authority pulled creates a massive ballache.

Rust and perished rubber components are a constant problem for consistency amongst inspectors

not forgetting either the time allocated for arguments/Barrying at both WOF inspection and potentially re-checks

While the topic has kinda turned to Toyota parts, anyone know where I can get a set of 6 of these? 1989 Celica I'm sorting out to sell for my son.

have you tried the local Toyota dealership ?
many items are genuinely cheaper than aftermarket.... or importing from outsource suppliers of genuine
