  1. Small update on this today, Kimjon came up with this sweet little stainless fuel tank as a swap for the 2 go ped tanks i had.
  2. ive also got to build a carb adapter the existing manifold is all good but needs to go from 2 barrel to the SU's roughly 2" 4 bolt flange.
  3. Have an abundance of shit on way from aliexpress to get this further along. Wastegate actuator is pressurized type as this turbos original was vacuume operated, can be cracked open to change springs etc. Belts to build primary drive to jackshaft where i'll run centrifugal clutches or gearbox depending what i can scrounge up. Might run 2 belts side by side if it looks too feeble ordered 25mm width. Have got a pipe bender available at work to do the chassis/frame work and also huge lathe! The keywayed hub I'll turn down on lathe to fit the belt drive pieces on the motor. Its steel not cast iron so can be welded which actually was a prick to find.
  4. @SOHC the governor mechanism is still in the engine but the arm is just connected to a spring that's it, it tugs away to its hearts content but isn't part of proceedings anymore. Will get around to removing it soon as i think a cam needs to be next to make the most of heads exhaust and carb. If i can only find a Cam shop that doesn't think im joking. (Trust me ive called around) Think i need to throw it in a trailer take to Franklin Cams and see if seeing the thing in front of them is proof of how utterly mad and dedicated i am to these engines!...... i also need a mad turbo grind for the other one
  5. Anyone got a 10" wheel and tyre with a 420 sprocket? 110cc pit bike seems to be a donor candidate. I have a slight issue with the carb misbehaving at idle due to the vtwin inlet pulse you can see the damper jumping around its fine once its got a few revs but its something i have to work around. As the mixture goes all over show with jet jumping about.
  6. It certainly popped and banged out exhaust at idle so i gave it 2 full turns on mixture that stopped it. Ive got 2 colour tunes boxed away might bung them in and see what its up too on another night ride.
  7. Reason its sitting again is it needs another tyre my old fuel pump dribbled E85 all over it which has caused it to throw a big chunk of tread off. Im happy enough with engine for now im going to try get a 10" rear wheel under the ass to get rid off the pocket bike wheel s they are only just doing the job.
  8. Need more seat time to mess around with the tune. I got it ok ish whole lot of changes in one hit ive not ridden further than end of street since, I ported heads manifold valve grind and changed back to ethanol in one hit and literally wound mixture in and out while riding with one hand. I should go back through this carb if you've seen my other vtwin build i found a chunk of swarf upstream of jet after float chamber, that carb was the matched pair to this one off my triumph which also did this. Youve given me something to look into if its rich that'd be great, i did start with the brass jet set as per manual flush with carb body as a start point. On this engine with this carb it'll idle and run fine at this setting but as soon as it sees load it wont even rev enough to fully engage the centrifugal clutch it just wont rev past 2700rpm. 1 turn on mixture and bang 5000rpm small adjustments and it just gets better...... i need a wide band and some data logging and to punch it along a long stretch of road i know.
  9. Be keen on spare tyre for sons scooter thing. Where abouts are you?
  10. Mountain bike discs are better for no extra money over pit bike stuff ive got one on rear of mine does ok job bit wont lock up mind you theres 130+ kg over back wheel, really easily adapted.
  11. Theres probably 30 people equally excited watching this thread to see what you do with it.
  12. 20 valve head on a k24.....
  13. Hey protip contact glue your tyre to the rim, not even joking its the only way i can keep them alive on my scooter.
  14. As a bonus was talking to a mate about building the drive setup for this how i was going to use chain etc..... he goes nah that'll be shit use these, so will be rolling a 30mm cog belt as a primary drive hmmm wonder if i can get them to sing in a high C ! Some assembly required but ive now got access to a lathe at work so will be a piece of cake. Oh and also access to a tube bender so the frame should be decent looking. Have been looking to see if i can run any of my toys in the junior dragster classes at Meremere Dragway. Its a possibility but there's specs to build too more reading needed and im probably too old which means handing over to my kids...... yeah nah maybe will have to see what this handles like.
  15. So no photos for this update but a few weeks back i took too the inlet manifold with the die grinder as it was only designed for a 30mm carb, opened that up till there was no more dags or wall thickness Picked Up some new Ngk BP6ES plugs threw those in filled up with E85 and took it for a hoon under cover of darkness (remember those headlights?) In short goes fucking well power band is now a bit further up so less sketchy getting moving can roll in to a wheely really easy without nearly dying. Amazingly even with the massive carb and electric pump that could feed a v8 it feels like it is getting starvation eg 50-60ks it goes flat if you back off and then nail it again it zings straight through to 80ks then dies off again. Will see what i can do to help free up the fuel lines as there is a few small areas. Go ped tanks have tiny fuel pickups. Fuel consumption is pretty up there did 10k ride last night and used a litre. Oh and back tyre threw a chunk of rubber off where petrol had dripped on it think this time I'll try get a 10" wheel under it seems to be just about enough room under there.
  16. So this thing has been pretty rock solid and has just taken abuse for hours..... until my daughter whos a bit lighter and a bit more fearless got on it and held it at max rpm for about 3 minutes till it started to hop so bad i called it. Nothing major big crack across engine mount after a sleeve shifted on tyre after got almost gooey. Zapped it up good to go again. My boy has drifts sorted now! Sorry about sideways vid......
  17. Hope you have a rear disc on order? Do fuck all for slowing down but wonders for saving a case of the wobbles while on one wheel.
  18. Would highly recommend stripping the carb down and scrubbing everything with soapy water and a dish scouring pad inside (the green type you would use on non stick pans) Everything will be full of soot and grit the float chamber will probably have hard lumps of lead and varnish in it. I do mine in a bucket while watching tv.... rinse with meths and leave to dry for a bit. Just did one today.
  19. Hmm yup if it lives about here i can refit the factory airbox holesaw a place for carb to poke its head out and get to the tuning nut by hand. If only i had a holesaw set or a laser cutter to make some flanges..... Only 30cm of inlet plumbing should make it punchy!
  20. Great thing now is im back to using a blowthrough configuration. On E85 this carb would ice up for sure my scooter grows ice on the inlet manifold just on a 50/50 mix. So blowing nice warm air from the turbo through will produce a cooling effect from evaporating the fuel hopefully negating a need for an intercooler. I also wont need to worry about feeding fuel through the turbo and grenading that under my ass if it backfires through inlet.
  21. The origins of these carbs are from a Triumph 2.5tc the later shape that got a longer manifold. Could never get them to run right they would be fine puttering round but wind the car out you would just hit the wall engine would loose power. 20 years later figured out why! Tiny piece of swarf was rattling around in between the ferrules of the line that connects the jet to the float bowl.
