  1. That's good then, I remember the rust in the bonnet wasn't too bad then but definitely gotten worse. 4 years outside will do that though aye! I did a road worthy on it way back then (might have looked past a few things wrong to be honest, Camel just wanted club reg plates haha) but was surprised to find the AC still had R12 gas in it. Wouldn't take much to get that going again I reckon. Its a good truck overall, just looks a bit crusty and won't take much to tidy up. TH700 will be the best mod you can do, I'm putting one in the 68 impala (was in my 64 chevelle and it got great economy for a warm 350)
  2. Wow, 4 years abandoned. I wondered what happened to this truck! For some reason I thought it was already over in WA with you.
  3. Good score! Looks like a two for one kind of sweet deal. Never seen a targa themed RX7 either. Seems someone at Mazda liked the 911 targa quite a lot at the time obviously and then hey Presto new trim spec RX7 model. Mate just bought an RX7 here in Melbourne last week actually. Hasnt run in 17 years but fired up with some fresh fuel. I thought 3k AUD for a S1 banana yellow / brown interior seemed like a good price.
  4. Score on all the parts! Column shift conversion next?
  5. Good score! I remember seeing this for sale ages ago and even briefly considered it myself until I saw it had been prepped for paint in the last pics of the advert. Just realised you tracked it down, thats dedication! Pretty rare though like you say
  6. Might stop boring you all to death with rust repairs for awhile. Next exciting thing for me will be lifting the body off the frame now its structurally sound enough to do so. Fucking hanging out to get this going. Momentum game is strong at the moment!
  7. Made the throttle pedal heel board from scratch today, as it was obviously missing. I actually used left over pieces from the new trunk floor stamping I bought, as the shapes were kinda close to what I think should be there for the pedal mount. Bonus. Still took me about 6 hours to fab this to size and butt weld it in though. Bastard.
  8. Picked up the Nissan nugget from exhaust shop on Wednesday. He did a really good job, considering its bit of a bitch under these for space. I had second thoughts about the screamer pipe being so loud driving it around, so he made it unboltable for 'track' use haha. Got him to take some photos, not the best but you get the idea. Drove home all good, it was actually the first time I had driven it with the turbo setup so took it reasonably easy, although nopics was saying how good it sounded on slight boost when following me home haha. Pissed around with the microleb, its not running too bad but its so old I dont really want to drop $500 dyno tuning it. So will have a play and wide band tune it one night on the road. Pretty keen to install a better ECU to be honest now its running and most the bugs are all ironed out!
  9. Fark me that was a mission butt welding that much GM full size floor pan real estate... Pretty good result though, looks sweet from underneath as well. Can move onto the next chapter now!
  10. Cut the drivers side floor out last weekend. Not for the faint hearted. Started mocking up the new floor, going to butt weld it in so it looks decent. Big piece of realestate this mofo. I got to lunch time on saturday, thought fuck it, im off to the pub for a beer. The weather is too nice for any more of this shit today. Haha Anyway, progress continues. Want to try get it back together for end of summer. Probably dreaming but its not impossible if i try do a few serious full days coming up on my annual leave next month
  11. Thought i better show you lot i havent been a slacker and basically share the misery of what I've been doing on this nugget since the last post Rear window channel was found to be fully fucking rusted when i removed the screen. I cut another section from a pontiac wreck and grafted it back in, along with repairing the trunk lid seal lip that was totally missing. Chop chop, weld, grind etc.
  12. Sounds like a tractor right now but least it sounds healthy! https://youtu.be/jMt_PyWnPLw
  13. Exhaust shop booked now turbo flange arrived.
  14. So, been finding a bit of time to try get this running again inbetween cutting never ending rust out of wifeys 68 impala. But the end is now in sight! 2.75" aluminum Intercooler pipework done, turbosmart BOV fitted, N14 GTIR radiator plumbed in and the engine ECU wired up. I started it the other day, seems to run well enough so pretty happy about that! Only thing left to do is send it off to the exhaust shop now and get a 3" turbo back exhaust system made. Then skids?
  15. Got the screens removed without breaking them, pretty rusty in the rear channels. Shocking actually. Will do that a bit later on. Going to do the drivers side floor this weekend. Its a pretty big piece of real estate compared to the trunk floor patch. Want to pull the body off the frame once all the structual rust is done. Big job!
  16. Ok. Update. Had a mini break but back into the Capiche Started with the trunk floor : Oh, Hai there!
  17. Can you buy argoshield gas from bunnings in NZ yet? Seems like the go here. $89 rental for life on a E size bottle. Im currently getting raped at $55 a quarter on my D size bottle thats nearly empty
  18. Awesome! I had a funny feeling if i posted it on here somebody would recognise it
  19. Well, ive been trying to get this old nugget going again. I have been working on it off and on over summer, when it wasnt too hot and I could be bothered. Firstly, i put some decent wheels on it : SSR Longchamp XR4 15x7.5 -14 Rear. 15x7.0 +11 Front. Was a real hassle getting them polished and machined up locally but got there in the end. Fitted the biggest front mount intercooler that I could for the size available. 3 full days of cutting carefully, making mounts etc. and I probably had the fucking thing in and out 20 times. 300X600X76 Aeroflow core with 3 inch end tanks. It was cheap and should be ample for my needs. Sorted a turbo smart 38mm external wastegate, Started the wiring, pretty basic really. I bought a new N14 GTIR alloy radiator - fits this engine bay pretty well and am about to start mocking up the aluminuim intercooler pipes next. Also fitted a genuine Walbro 255L fuel pump, was a bit of pissing around but got it mounted eventually. No rust in the fuel tank, not a single spec! Pretty happy with that. The saga continues, should be running in a few weeks hopefully.
  20. Yeah, luckily that loom came with my dashboard. I only had to cut and solder a few wires from memory to splice it all in and there is a switch for 6 or 8 cylinder on the tacho. Theres a guy called craig vayne rust a problem his panels are really good fitment, used them on some of my other nuggets. Not sure what the shipping would be like over the ditch but should be reasonable http://rustaproblem.com.au/panels/
  21. It was a NZ Todd motors built car, originally white with metalic green roof 245 3 speed manual. A previous owner had intalled the 360 and painted it. The body was really good, although i was annoyed by the addition of the bonnet pins. The interior was totally rooted when i bought it so i threw in new carpet and a complete pacer dash, which is why its that dark red colour on the glove box area. It had a VH ranger bench seat which i hated but was in good condition. It was a sweet old VG that turned heads, and i ended up owning a couple more here when moving to Melbourne - a VIP and then a VG regal haha.
  22. I thought i was looking at my old VG when i first read this thread! I sold it to a guy down in gore before i moved to Melbourne in 2006 but you have had your one a lot longer obviously. Mine had a 360, it went pretty hard. Hopefully all that rust doesn't put you off too much, you should see the 68 impala im currently restoring...
  23. Cant rush these things sometimes! Glad youve got it running now, is it all ready to get registered soon?
  24. Nobody would even know these days if the seats were supposed to be bench or not anyway. What VTNZ are you taking it to in welly? Are they easy going or a bit hard out these days on old cars?
  25. Bench seat and column sounds lush and pretty much the only way to roll in a wagon. 3 speed auto or 4?
