  1. So I dropped a decent chunk of cash today and picked up a 1970 RT80 corona rolling body. Car is set up and certified for a 12A. A few of you may know this car already. I hope to do it justice. Good Points: Fairly recent panel and paint which i would give a 7.5/10 Hilux rear diff with disk brake rear end Decent chrome bumpers and tail lights Reg on hold Certified for 12A Full certified professionally built long header exhaust Mostly new suspension components It's pretty much all there minus engine, gearbox, radiator and fuel pump Brand new 14" modgies and falken tyres. I say a good point because it's got them, but i plan to get rid of them and get something along the lines of starsharks or meshies A decent stack of receipts Nice black vinyl reclining bucket seats that actually look all good Came with C0R0TA personalised plates. Not sure if i'll keep them but if i do i'll get the re-made with the new JDM style plates. Bad Points: Most of the window and door rubbers are stuffed Paint job does show a few small signs of having not been a high cost job (was done through a professional shop just on the cheap i think but pretty good) Certified for a 12A which means I either have to find a 12A or enough parts to build one OR go to a 13B and re-cert. Cert was done a while ago and will need more work for a new cert Grille was re painted and the clear coats apparently reacted and gone yellow. Gearbox tunnel has been hacked up and made bigger to suit the series 1 gear box but it's been done like shit Interiors pretty fucked, dash is stuffed, heaters gone, no carpet, rear seat has standard cracking up the top, front door cards have holes for speakers etc. When you wind down the drivers side window it pushes the door handle open and opens the door. So i've already ordered the door window rubbers and the front windshield rubber, will likely order the rear window rubber and the door rubbers tomorrow. I have a baby due in 4 weeks so this won't be back on the road in a few days but hopefully i'll be able to get her tidy and sort and engine so i can re build it and have it read for summer. I need some input from people on whether to bother with the 12A or just build a healthy 13B and re-cert. I have bid on a series 1 gearbox to go in her so hopefully i'll win that. I also need to know what people think as it has NO mirrors i need something. I'm thinking of fitting a pair of these "JDM style racing mirrors" on the guards but i'm not sure if i should go for guard mirrors or door mirrors and chrome, black or grey? Chuck me some ideas! https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-JDM-Style-Black-Fender-Mount-Side-Mirrors-PAIR-UNIVERSAL-FIT-Racing-Mirror-/332716026566 More pics to come tomorrow
  2. Thanks for that. Your bluebird looks stunning! After much consideration I decided against the bluebird option though and picked up a RT80 corona rolling body set up for a 12a. Build thread to follow.
  3. Ah now that could be a good option. As I can see I would need a new loom anyway so that could save me some hassles. I’m thinking I will take a trip up to Nelson to have a look at it once lockdown is over. I have a painter that owes me a favour so that will be a good starting point.
  4. Yeah I think they have that Oldschool Sohc turbo cool factor about them. If I could see around 250hp from one I’d be pretty happy I think. I have found someone selling an older link LEM ecu for a z18 as well for a decent price so that makes the whole thing even more attractive.
  5. Yeah I think given it’s condition and the fact it’s a pillar auto I’ll see if I can get him down IF I decide to go forward with it. There’s also a pile of parts in Nelson a guys selling that includes a factory turbo hardtop body with minimal rust, z18et and 5 speed manual which I may consider as another option. I just hate the idea of putting it back together without knowing where anything goes.
  6. the positive camber makes me think it may be IRS
  7. Thats why this intrigued me. factory turbo. Manual swap i can do. It's scruffy and he's asking 6k which seems a bit steep to me but i don't know these cars. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/4157384204273514/?ref=messenger_banner
  8. this is a pillar model and looks pretty sweet IMO http://high-top-fade.blogspot.com/2013/10/blog-post_16.html?spref=pi&m=1
  9. Are they around? Factory manual turbo hardtops for not stupid money?
  10. thanks guys. any idea what sort of price range one of these would be worth? Its a 4 door pillar model which suggests to me its probably a less sought after one? I'm trying to extract some info from the guy but he hasn't got back to me yet. It looks like a nz new one which means i'm unsure if it will be a solid rear end or IRS.
  11. I have come across a Z18et powered 910 Bluebird locally. It's overpriced IMO of course, but it is unique and has got me thinking about things. The first issue is it's an auto. There's not a lot of information from my google searching, and i know nothing about these cars or this engine. Can anyone shed some light on things like what gearbox i might use for a conversion, Engine Potential, Inter-changable parts and anything useful.......
  12. If anyone’s interested I’ll be updating the progress on this on instagram. Most of it will be updated here aswell, it’s just more hassle uploading photos here so might not be as often. beamse21
  13. She got some new shoes today. 15x6.5 volk cv pros. Will be getting totally refurbished and having Pines lips fitted to make the approx 9”. Will work out exact figures once I have the car at the correct height. Nice to have genuine wheels. A first for me.
  14. Man it’s frustrating trying to upload photos here off my iPhone.
  15. So I get to go and pick this up next weekend. Complete beams 3sge with j160 6 speed gearbox. Have heard her run, should be a good package. in the end after deciding 3 times which engine I was definitely going to use I settled happily for this option. 210bhp factory, aftermarket parts at my disposal, proven ability to make 260+hp with a few mods, light weight, short, good gearbox to match and cheap all contributed to my decision. I didn’t really want to go with a non bmw engine but their 4 pots just aren’t up to the task of what I wanted. i plan to daily this car when its ready, so fuel economy is quite important to me. I’m going to be running a surfab ITB plate with blacktop ITBs, link monsoon ecu, cams, lightweight flywheel and a decent set of extractors. Should make for a very fun car.
  16. Thanks boys. I’ll hit up Brent and see what he can tell me. I don’t mind running a normal booster if I have to, but I hate how bmw have done their stupid remote mount booster thing. It’s not great for engine transplants.
  17. Right I’m wondering if the Oldschool experts can help with an issue I have. I’m wanting to run a non boosted brake system in my e21 bmw. I’ll be running aftermarket disk brakes all round. I’m hoping to remove the booster as the standard RHD setup the bmw uses pushes the booster away from the firewall towards the headlight using an extremely agricultural looking piece of folded plate. I’m guessing I’ll have to modify the brake pedal where it currently exits into the firewall and all that sort of thing which isn’t really an issue but what I really want to know is how to effectively calculate what size of master cylinder I’ll need to use to make the system work well. Any input from anyone?
  18. What do you mean you longer chassis? I’d be interested to confirm. But yeah, like you say I was ntending to replace pretty much all the goodies anyway. I really need to get a workshop manual for this thing so I can set the timing and tweak the carby. It’s running pretty well but It’s not perfect. I’m fairly certain the drivetrain vibration is the center hanger bearing so that’s pretty easy. I think it’s going to need the front sway bar mount bushes replaced, bleed the brakes and replace the cylinders, then it should be wof time and hope for the best.
  19. It’s actually not a concern for me. I would have paid the same price either way. I knew the motor wasn’t b23 and to be honest with what I’m planning to do to it I quite relieved it’s not an actual 323i. I was feeling sort of guilty. Now I know it’s only a 320/6 I’ve got no concerns hacking it up!
  20. Yup. Solid disks. The vin tag lists it being a 323i. I suspect someone’s tagged it at some point.
