  1. I took the car on a pilgrimage to one of it's former homes today. Dick is shutting up shop at the end of the year, after 50 odd years in the business. He was over the moon to see the car back on the road and looking presentable.

  2. Because @Roman is the goodest of c*unts he found me a cheap Link, then went and collected it and couriered it to me. So far I have: - A Vitz drive by wire pedal - BMW/VDO N54 drive by wire throttle - A test print of a 2 piece throttle body adapter using heat inserts for the first time ever. I'm supposed to be working at the moment, will update more later.

  6. The rare spare floor pans are a solid 4/10 they do not go back far enough, the swages do not align at all and the radius are in the wrong place so you have to bash it make it fit

  8. Next job was to tackle the front floor pan, once removed I found the chassi rail was completely fucked, also needed inner sill patching to add to the fun

  13. what cruise control? It's basically bare-bones Lancer inside - no cruise control, no trip computer etc. I'm lucky to have auto climate control A/C and one-touch window controls haha. road trip went well otherwise! Kind of miss being able to sit at 2000rpms at ~100km/h haha. Now it's 2800rpms at 100k right where the exhaust gets a bit droney, but at 3500rpms doing 140ish km/h the drone goes away.

  15. New springs arrived today as like 1900's me last year i cut my front springs to look cool and spent the year worrying about it catching the bumper on everything.... no mucking around full set 50mm drop Jamex springs seemed like bloody good value (spare me your horror stories if they are shit) and arrived in less then 24 hours thumbs up for service. The rears are bloody tiny but chunky i won't be wrestling to get these in! Oil, coolant miscellaneous sundry item are all here some other items are on way. Heat management is a priority this time so new turbo and wastegate blankets have been procured waiting to be stuck on. Bends to sort the routing of crossover pipe are here as that only cleared cross member under heavy acceleration and wrap to cover it all up. Basically heaps of small jobs left i think once on ground ill need to rework rear of exhaust as I'll now be identifying as lowered and will smash It repeatedly if I dont.

  16. Collected the bent valve head from the beagle I sold in my travels. Collected a fancy new (to me) tig off Datsun Dave in the same travels to bring my butchery to new levels. Sadly I don't have any gas for it so grabbed the MIG out. Since I get free power from 9 till midnight with our plan I figured 9pm was a good time do do some welding. Chucked the manifold onto the head and everything onto the welding table Carefully back purged it with a mix of plywood smoke and burning oil Needs lots of grinding and finish work but it's one piece now Funnily enough when stuffs pepped with angles/bevels and clean it welds much nicer. Once it's cooled down I'll take it off the head and will see what it looks like inside. I'll tig the sections close to the studs/nuts as I wasnt brave enough to mig them and the nuts in place I was keen to make a turbo flange to suit the steam pipe but stumbled across this in aus. Shipping was fairly reasonable too so I've ordered it

  17. So I mostly finished the wiring tonight. I say mostly because I still have to wire in the temp and fuel gauge. Above is what I started with. Disgusting. A mile of cloth tape later and she looks a little more tidy. Still need to tidy up the dash and button it up. Next on the list for the Landy is a carb change to a twin downdraft weber and install a bench seat. Then just little things before a wof.

  18. Rootes group 1725cc would keep it in the family and you'll get access to new parts and all sorts of manifolds off the shelf. I would look at grafting in a proper diff center into the stock one to give you better gearing whilst you're at it. I had a cortina diff spliced into a Standard 10 diff with minimal fuss a few years ago. Went from 4.5 to 3.5 I think and a much more civilised ride. I have a spare tall diff here in Martinborough if you want it from a 4 stud mustang. Should be small enough.

  22. how low is low, keep in mind its a 1930s english sidevalve and had minimal compression to run on watered down kerosene fuel. what style starter does it take, i have a bunch of 50s lucas ones which may work, but they are generally pretty repairable what carb does it use?

  26. And as if I need another two wheel project, this arrived the other day: The plan is to turn this heavy monstrosity of a bike into a light(er)weight 'adventure' bike along the lines of the Triumph Tiger, Ducati Multistrada etc. We've christened it 'Guzzi Bro'...... It needs a few bits, so if anyone has a starter motor sitting around, working or not, I'd be interested. Or anything Guzzi.

  27. The dashboard itself was in a pretty poor state. The gauge surrounds had yellowed over the years, and the gauge glass was slightly opaque. And after: New HEL brake and clutch lines also visible in this pic.

  28. A lot of the trim and panels on the Aprilia are coated/painted with a metallic grey colour. I just happened to have 10 litres of metallic grey that I'd mixed for a previous project and it turns out it's an exact colour match. The grab handle ^ had been damaged (I think the bike had been dropped) and the front corner was badly damaged. I repaired the damage and just painted the damaged area so the rest of the handle hasn't been painted. Match is good eh? The flat panel between the handles has also been partially painted. The dash surround panels had lost their sparkle so the grey paint rejuvenated them nicely. Before on left, after on right:

  30. Progress report from Gloss Boss Total strip back. All filler shown has been removed and redone after these pics were taken. Gave me absolutely no clues as to what colour it’s gonna be. Reckons it’ll be done in a fortnight. Told him no rush, whenever. I’ve done no more to it as I’ve been working on the 4.0ls clutch (cap screws for the clutch touching the intermediate plate) and modifying/creating holes for the lower 4 bolts that attach the bellhousing to the sump. Throw that back together tomorrow, fire it up and send a vid of it running to its new owner. It’s going into a XF ute, 4 barrel and all

  33. Bit of a late update. Been busy. Got the new head bearings in and removed the undesired indexing. Paperwork done and she's on the road all legal like. Gave it a test around the place and up the peak which she handled like a dream... slowly, but steadily. Runs really well.. Sits on about 60kph on the flat pretty nicely. Really nice to ride. Decided to catch and release this one rather than developing it more. It's such a fun thing to ride just as is I just don't want to change anything, so I'll call this project to an end. I've just picked up an 83 MB100 so might make a thread up about that if anyone's interested? PS. The side quest (GSX550e) is also complete now. Was all good after the minor fixes I had to do. It was struggling with cold start but turned out while I'd cleaned the carbs up, the bowls had a tiny feed into a separate chamber for the enrichment circuit which was blocked up on both sides, so.. cleaned that and it fires up first time every time now. Looooovely. I'll still try and get a vid of it and post it here. Thing sounds wicked.
