  1. feels like ive been making no progress on this thing even thoough ive been slamming heaps of time at it. Discovered the possible reason why it had a full engine rebuild 5000km ago, at 65,000 kms, when these things are known for clocking up 200K+ without being opened. Some fucking Einstein obviously tried to make an incorrect battery fit, and thought shit, this piece of plastic cant be that important, ill just hack into it so make room. Too bad they weren't clever enough to realise that the hole they just made is he back of the airbox, behind the filter, allowing all sorts of grubby air straight into the carbs / engine. Hopefully as its pretty recent after a rebuild everythings still ship shape in there. Thanks to @Truenotchmy now resident bike parts man at City Honda I picked up a chonky boi front tyre. Fitted it and realised the axle spacer was some shoddy home job that didnt touch the inner lip of the seal. Ordered a second hand correct spacer from Malcolm at anaconda to sort that out and grabbed some sintered rear brake pads while i was at it as they were on the metal backing plate on one side, eeek. Got a honda tool bag from the same outfit i got one for the XR from, they even colour matched it as best as possible to the rothmans blue that a fair bit of the bike will become once sorted. New side covers are all mounted up. Have tacked on the exhaust mount and ordered some 45mm stainless bends to get it welded up. @Mitch.W is gunna be a GC and drag his tig to my place to sort that out. Went for a rally inspired steep angle pipe position. other than looking cool its well clear of any pillions legs. if your wondering why the rear wheel looks kack is becuase the linkage is disconnected and its stropped up at max compression. i wanted to make sure the brake caliper was not going to foul on the muffler. The fairings have also now had their first coat of 2k high build primer and a block back. Will spray another coat on them this weekend and do a light 800g block black for a nice finish. Got some steel to fab up the pannier frames this weekend as well so I can keep the pressure on.

  2. Shock horror! I just discovered evidence of how brutal the weekend really was........

  3. Little bit more progress... they're back filling the foundation, you can see we've had to come up quite high on the blocks to satisfy the floor level with the council (flood hazard zone). It wont look as pronounced once we get the ground level back with some fill/top soil and there will be a small bit of decking around the front here. Have also had my negotiation hat on for the provisional cost revisions which are coming back, keeping em honest.

  4. Finally decided to pull the head off. And make sure it's a 5K. 80mm bore. 156mm pushrods and solid lifters. Dished pistons. Good news all round. Next move. New cam. Recommendations? I assume as it's a solid lifters I just get 3k/4k grind? It's got a bit of surface rust bust hopefully the cam place can sort this. I've always suspected I had a bit of an exhaust/intake leak. Some Muppet (being me) put my intake gasket over the original gasket . Will wait for this cam to be sorted then replace the main crank seal in the process. Bonus wheel shot. Scored these from @Taistorm just waiting on some wheel nuts.

  5. And anyway cunts, can't you see that my barry on this is so thin it's two dimensional? Maybe all the jap import ones were different, all the reading I have done is on oz based forums. I have only looked inside two engines.... All I was trying to do was enjoy some nice internet based knowledge superiority and you fuckers have ruined it. I shall drink beer now in protest. And by the way that new pump is now 60% installed thanks to this evenings efforts...

  6. Although it went better than I expected. still fizzing about that weekend. Best thing I have done on a bike in the last 10 years. epic. Gc’s everywhere. Bacon. Snags. Ice cold dobros. what else could a man want.

  7. Once i got the 45 degree bends positioned to where i wanted i set about making the tailpipes. Originally I wanted rippled pipes and tried having a bash myself with no real results to show for it as the tube was too heavy a gauge, so ive settled for just straight pipes with a flared end which i made myself by making a tapered die on the lathe at work and used my hydraulic press to put the flare in. Id used a tow ball for my 1st goes which looked not too bad but it was hard to get the tow ball to sit perfect and it would give an uneven flare. Overall im quite happy with how the exhaust has turned out, I'll sort the mounts out and fully weld it up once I redo the hardtail, its pointless doing the same job twice.

  8. Got the engine and box in place for hopefully the last time.. Clutch fork and release bearing is also in there. Cut the hole for the shifter.. Need to straighten the shifter as it angles too much towards the drivers seat. In reverse it gets close to the seat. If I straighten it, it'll be perfecto. Ordered all of my exhaust parts, and have a new manifold flange plate.. So look out for sketchy welds and bs looking noise cannon build. Ordered a new Ali radiator and 14" fan to match the nice oil cooler. Will need to find stock oil cooler hoses or get the braided ones shortened to suit. Also need a few bolts for the bellhousing and starter so that can be finished off. Driveshaft measured and will get dropped off next week. Not sure if I'm going to use standard rubber fuel line or braided, I've never fitted braided fittings before.. We'll see. Clutch slave is ordered ready for collection, then make a hose up for it. Then it's mainly all wiring stuff, lengthen wiring for alt, coils, starter and gauges. Wiring up thermo fan switch etc. It needs to be finished by May 13th as I move out of my workshop then.. Want to do a coilover mid to the spare struts too.. Along with capri discs and escort calipers.

  9. Its not the size, its how frantically you masturbate with it. +1 for Weldtec, I cannot fault mine and it has had some proper usage.

  10. That is a fucking good price. I've a weldtech mig- not quite so flash as that (not blingy lcd screen- just two knobs) Same as what @ThePog has (the welder that is - not the fact Dylan only has two knobs...in fact I believe he only has one and its not that impressive - or at least that's what @sidewaysickness mum said) Its been great and has done a huge amount of work for our business. Fantastic on car panels- very smooth (even with poverty spec co2) Greg at proline welding in Nelson is the owner/importer of weldtech. Good dude has great back up service.

  11. Fuck same. Normally after like an oldschool nationals, I get a huge low. But I'm still peaking about what a good time i had. It's like part of that weekend never dies........

  12. That means it's a later blacktop motor. Fuck I have turned into a safari barry now. Edit; Just to cement this, you need to tell me if the vac pump is in the back of the alternator or in the timing cover.

Just picked up this body and chassis and aiming to build a Junior Rod/totrod Starting Point: Size comparison to her first hot rod stroller: Thumbs of approval: The fleet: Repping The Strokers shirt over here in Perth while out cruising: She keeps on growing! Wagon still fits for now but won't be long: Will strip down this week and start planning out the build

  17. You can buy single spokes. Hit up Anaconda Honda in Te Aroha. I bought a single spoke and nipple combo. Sure, may be a bit modern for his stock, but you never know.

  21. I also see some double valve springs, new looking retainers and clean valves. Interesting needs a clean and some rust removal on bits..it’s obviously been pulled from the cuda or installed with no covers and some shits got I there. Gaskets cooked too so they must have put the original coronet ones back on

  22. How the hell did they get the silver / black top names if the silver or black top is meaningless? Sounds like the whole designation is meaningless tbh, and it's nothing more than a construct of Barry's who like to sound like they know what they're talking about

  23. Plus the old boy has had a lot of practised straightening bent bicycle wheels for me and my bro. (Being a bit hard on the gear seems to run in our family)

  24. I gave mine a bit of a look over when I unloaded it. It had a small list of problems; -broke the bottom of my leg shield -both my headlight and tail light don’t work anymore -headlight came loose -legshield mount bolt unwound itself and fell off -air filter split and fell off -right foot peg rubber is toast and the best one yet; my front wheel nearly fell off cause the axle but unwound itself and I rode about 30km with a front wheel flopping around in my forks

  27. Well let me barry for a second with my extensive research on this matter, I shall bullet point to make it more pedantic; - The most obvious distinguishing feature between silver and black is the position of the vac pump. - Silvertops came with black tappet covers, Blacktops came with silver tappet covers, my engine is a silvertop but has a black cover. - The oil filter assemblies are interchangeable, yours might have been swapped out. Silvertops definitely came out factory with 2x the same, Ryco Z115 or the like. I can probably add more bullet points ad infinitum, although if you get on Patrol4x4 for a few hours like i did all of it will look very similar to whatever I wrote.

  28. Those aprilias look pretty cool and are cheap! I had a brief look at them too, mostly wondering if the front end off one of those will fit a cb125 lol

  31. its way easier just to repair the parts you need then screw the clips on when your done, just get the hole the right height. heaps of cars have the clips screwed on rather than using the little Pedestals.

  32. Talked to mackleys on Tues the guy reckoned they could drop an empty container 16m which is more than enough to get it to where I want, just waiting someone to come out and check the site, dispatch reckons they're under the pump.

  34. The mag and it’s spacer is a good 150mm long, if I made something that supported the drive sprocket and I could mount this to might be a go. Then I it would fit well.
    1 point
  35. This engine is also a contender for this project, it seems to be in very good condition and has never been apart. Problem is the mag is in the way of the frame, I am thinking of making up a plate with a trigger coil and running a CDI ignition or something

  38. She's been purring of late. I struck a deal with the neighbor for a row of shelter belt trees she had lopped off at ground level by one of those diggers with a massive claw. She asked him to lay them out evenly to make things a bit easier to move but she got home and there are 2 massive stacks all pick up stick like. I have spent the last couple of months just here and there towing a few through two gates and about 50-60m to our place. Ive only got a pile of ones she had 'topped' left to go now, so without the massive trunks on them which should be an afternoons work. Love the tractor has high and low box, a few of those logs are pretty heavy and it would only move them in low 1 and full tilt. Ill take a couple of years worth of wood for us and then should any OSers need some pine next year ill have it split and will be selling by the trailer load / cube to help recoup mine and the neighbors costs. First mod - removing the door - bloody thing keep swinging around in the breeze and was generally getting in the way. Exhaust fell off - luckily a temp one was an EL Falcon away (fits on for now, as it came off the car, didnt even bother making it look better.) Will have a straight pipe with flap made up, because sounds boss with no muffler

  40. There has been a bit of progress on this, but not a whole lot tbh. The blasting mentioned in the last post as the guy from work who was going to do it took about 6 months off on ACC. He's back now though so I might go have a chat with him today and see what's doable for him. I have purchased some bits, but mostly all my time and money have been tied up in buying and now renovating my first home! The major plus side of which is I now have my own shed, and this got moved from my parents place to there about a month or so back. PFT that reminded me to do this, from 2012 when it was still on the road, transporting my mates trebuchet haha

  42. Look up the part number and cross reference possibly. LH112 comes up as hiace. So should be available Or I believe the ae100 is the e100 here which is the 96-99 corolla

  43. Yea man those plastic things go and then that's that. There's a generic one that fits, let me ask what the guy ordered and il get back to you Edit. Apparently these ones Toyota AE100 https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-TOYOTA-TIGER-AE100-LH112-Windshield-Windscreen-Wiper-Linkage-Bush-Big-1-set/113172266666?hash=item1a5997beaa:g:p9EAAOSwoA1bW913 Here the are in the l200 arm There's small bushings too, but no lead on them (some dorman ones are close but not quite, could mod the arm to fit easy with a reamer I think) Some blokes have modded them with little rose joint/heim joints
