  1. and now this. massive thanks to the people who made this happen, @JustHarry for hooking me up with the joker who had it. Owen Flawes for agreeing to sell me his spare rear screen @nzstato for collecting it, packaging it up and sending it up to me, what a good cunt. but not @sheepers for breaking the first one like a fucking dick. 2021-03-08_05-49-15 by sheepers, on Flickr

  2. Not much has happened since Kumeu.. took the Mrs down to Christchurch the following weekend to have some time out, and wouldn’t ya know it, that was the same weekend as MCM.. honestly totally unaware I was when planning the trip but managed to convince the Mrs that we should go check it out... first time there for me and it was pretty cool.. well worth the visit and would definitely go again (with the Galaxie preferably). Galaxie pics for Galaxie thread: So I finally decided to drop my car round to my mechanic the other week as I was struggling to find the time to get those things done for the WOF before the 28 days ran out (still didn’t make it on time dammit).. did a rockauto order last month and got in new bearings, tie rod ends and 3 different sets of axle seals as I wasn’t sure which one fit (and they were so cheap). In the end all the tie rod needed was to be re-greased thru the grease nipple as it had water in it which was creating the play, replaced the leaking axle seal, and the reason for the play in the front bearing was because the bearing race was a fraction smaller than the housing so it was moving a little bit.. got a fitter turner guy to tack weld it in neatly and she was all good!.. I’ve been slowly accumulating the bits needed for a full front end rebuild as she’s a bit floaty, so that will or will not happen over winter, but in the meantime I’m just enjoying old car ownership and taking her on the odd trip into work. Mexican blanket pic for thread..

  4. Holy wow, what a ride that was! Thanks to everyone who had a hand in organising it and driving support: @RUNAMUCK @Willdat? @- i5oogt - @JustHarry @Mof. You're all absolute legends and every rider is appreciative of your efforts. I can't believe the terrain we managed to hoon through. Mt Patriarch and the Maungatapu Track were both outstanding and really challenging. A couple of years ago I never would have thought about attempting "roads" like that. Super stoked to have done it . Already looking forward to next year... if I didn't have a job I'd be keen to do it again with the Auckland crew in a few weeks. Here's a few favourite photos from the journey: Edit: @JustHarry - that oil is mine. It can be donated to anyone who needs to do an oil change on their bike... @RUNAMUCK was making noises about doing an oil change on his NBC.

  5. Righto. So massive thanks to Bart & Will for organising this ride and route ! Really was the most amazing intinary and roads. Then a bloody good on you guys to Harry , Karl & Mof for being the best support crew a group of riders could ask for. Having suitable vehicles and skill as well as a good onboard kit to help anyone out with any issues. And then cooking everyday and handing out cold dobros. What more could you ask for. Then thanks to Aaron and Mark for saying fuck yeah to riding all the way from home and back. Gutted Aaron couldnt make it the whole way homr but gave it his best. And his bike went pretty good from beint built only weeks before. The group of guys who we had riding we all good cunts !Some of them I've had the pleasure of riding with before. I believe everyone had real capable bikes for what we tackled and that helped with keeping the convoy short. Scenery was fucking outstanding every day. The technical sections were so much fun My bike took the whole ride like a champ considering 1/2 of the bike is made up from chinese alixpress parts. I had my throttle cable snap 45mins from St Arnaud on day 3. Replaced a fraying clutch cable after Day 1. Cleaned my airfilter out after Day 1. And had minor rear brake issues on last section of the rainbow. Me & Mark made the hard call to bail near the end of the road at Lake Tennyson as to get home before dark and we just got it with me arriving up the drive at 620pm. We left the 320pm and literally had our bikes on full throttle thru the rest of the gravel and then from Hanmer to home. I ran out of gas twice but my Auxillary fuel tank saved me both times. Will carry a small can of brake cleaner and crc in future and plan to fit a factory airbox to my bike. My CG110 disc brake front end was a dream on these offroad sections and my new stiffer rear shocks were great with my tool roll and drybag on the back. Will be buying some new Scott wet weather gear for future and a nice Balaclava like Jeff had . Stoked to hear Steve got awarded for his wild riding and being a general good cunt. I met Steve on the side of the road lying down under his bike fitting new M8 bolts supplied my Mof with some loctite to refit his pegs. Top bloke. Cant wait to go back

  7. This was my first mission based OS event. What a super crew, @Mof, @JustHarry and @- i5oogt - were an insanely patient support team. (I really hope your diff noise is nothing serious @Mof). It would have been easy to have a niggle at me for riding a cheats bike, but there wasn't even a hint of it. I loved chasing the FR50/CT110/MX100 up hill (the downhill not so much!). I'm looking forward to having an excuse to build something for future events too. What a bunch of GCs, options for the next top of the south invasion are already being plotted out in my head.

  8. Jeeze jokers - looks like you had a goodtimes.jpg So much so that we are keen to come down and do it - looking at 25th - 28th March. @slacker.cam @sentra @peteretep @Tumeke Two questions: 1. Anyone wanna do it again / join us? 2. Anyone excited to wanna do support for us in case it turns to shit? Main concern is being stranded with a broken bike/person. Yeah we're pretty self sufficient but hey - risk assessment suggests we might be stupid to do it without. Ken to hear your thoughts xx

  13. I spent a while trying to get the bleed nipples out of the calipers.. I wasn’t successful and will get a tap to chase out the last part. Yesterday I blasted the hubs and dust plates, brunox layer and black zinc. put boots on the idler and pitman + wire wheeled and zinc sprayed the drag link. Stripped and labelled everything and whipped radiator out. Donk is out. Got top arms out too but had to cut the bolts. Then my thumb. I stopped for the day, felt like shit all morning anyway.

  16. I also wanna thank not only our back up crew, but everyone who made the effort to join us. Their presence created this event. I honestly believe the only it could have been better was if the (09) crew had been able to make it. (Would have been four more people to lol at at the river crossing if nothing else) Holy fuck I wanna see the footage of that.

  18. The noise was hilarious, 2 stroke lawnmower followed by a car bonnet being dragged down the road.

  19. Done. I suppose I should do some kind of leak test since there are eleventy billion welds on this thing. I also learnt that if you use the cordless drill on the nut for the v-band clamps, and there is no lube, and they are stainless, the thread eventually galls and welds itself on. Fortunately, my original design was going to use more clamps, so I had a spare. But still, they aren't cheap. I put a drop of oil on the threads now.

  21. I've got a bit of downtime until the next race meeting, so took a chance to get some long awaited fabrication work done. I highly recommend Nick at SAFE Engineering in Palmy for anyone who needs automotive fab work / roll cages / other small engineering jobs taken care of. I've been needing to update my harness mounts since the rules changed a little while ago. Nick added a fresh bar to wrap the belts around and keep the harness on a good angle for my new neck restraint. While he was at it, I got him to add jacking points to the sides of the car. The vertical tube goes through the floor and is reinforced by a foot plate. This means I don't have to risk crushing my sills or chassis rails when jacking the car up from the side. And something I've wanted for AGES. Sill stands. Nick bored the sills and welded tubes in place that I can slot a set of stands into. This will make life far easier at the track and it'll be quicker to get the car up in the air for checks and maintenance. The stands will be made soon. The current state of it:

  22. Decided to throw in the drivers door sill as it was worn and rusty, got my paint, dressed the van up for primer tomorrow hopefully... if I dont get tempted to do more bits.... I should just leave it alone .... but I can't... I'll probably do a couple more panels. After these though, and after putting the engine back together with the improved parts.

  24. I'd love to do it again. But I doubt I could swing it tbh. Also it's going to be twelve months minimum before I can mentally prepare my self to go over the maungatapu track again. It gave me ptsd/I still see it when I close my eyes. Defo have a few tips and pointers for you lads.

  26. still cant find any door rubbers. anywho today i made a parcel shelf. it goes without saying the old one was fucked but not as fucked as it should have been given that its 50 years old. as is the norm for this car with the old parcel shelf removed the steel was in perfect condition. i made a new shelf out of 18mm MDF because thats what i had. made it in two pieces because its close to impossible to get it in or out if its one piece. couple of bolts to hold it down and we're in business. tomorrow ill glue the carpet on and shes finished. 2021-03-06_04-00-50 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-03-06_04-00-44 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-03-06_04-00-37 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-03-06_04-00-29 by sheepers, on Flickr

  27. Sh1t update - bought a set of XE Fairmont Ghia rear window chrome, as the povo spec Falcon is missing this. It’s actually a pretty useless purchase as I’m going to be running louvres but hey, it’s how I roll. I left the spare rear screen behind with the seller as I’m tapped for space and it’s literally the last thing I need in “storage”.

  28. I had limited time to finish the panel work, so got it to a level that looked OK, gave it a lick of paint and threw this back together. The door is pretty wrinkly, so I don't think I'll fix it... Fibreglass doors will be happening soon... Spent my birthday at the racetrack. I had a cold, so was off the pace a wee bit, but managed consisted 1.17's all day long. The consistency paid off and I came away with a win in the final race! I did a terrible job with my camera and didn't have any charge in the batteries, so here's the only vid that worked. I qualified on P2 against some much faster machinery. Was swamped off the line and had a good race to come home in 3rd (one of the guys up ahead received a drive through penalty, gifting me 3rd place). Put the car on the trailer on one piece and am currently second in the GT Cup for the summer series. The final round is in April, so hopefully I can get a few good results to have a chance at winning the series.

  29. Shouldn't be too hard to get it good enough for the next rodeo on Jan 23/24th. It can stay a bit rough and will finish it when I've got new doors to get the lines right.

  34. i was struggling to figure out some electrical issues with this thing so send it to Kane at r twin works and he worked his magic and also balanced and tuned the carbs and made everything work as it should. went for my first proper ride and it bought up afew issues i need to fix. (i really need to take photos that aren't at my workshop soon) i had to add more brackets to my rear triangle anyway so am going to have to get that re powder coated but thats no biggie also i have to make a new mount for my numberplate bracket too. I mounted up the rear guard today which came up nice. am waiting for my front guard to turn up. need to try and get a wof hopefully then hopefully will be chopping it up again and i'm going to build some stainless high pipes 2-1. i am attacking a 7 day or so ride down to the brass monkey smashing a bunch of gravel and just taking this places i probably shouldn't be

  35. Looks all good in there now. the white around the lip is just in case I decide to go that way. not sure yet, I’m still undecided.Could still go all retro like the old wagon. what do you guys reckon.

  36. True, I bought the seals for my 23 from them. What a weird shop, two old barries bickering constantly whilst not listening to whey you want.

  37. Sprayed myself with sharp metal filings whittling the hole out with the die grinder. I also welded it on the back side of the head flange. But it was shit and bubbly... probably should have cleaned it. I'll have to grind it out and do it again.

  39. That week (the week before Kumeu) I decided to get my mechanic mate to run it through for a WOF.. he managed to score the least sympathetic old car guy at the workshop, but that was all good as it meant the car got a good going over (sorta). He failed it on a worn LF steering ball joint, LF wheel bearing play, and LR axle seal leak. Bit bummed to say the least but my mechanic mate said “she’ll be right” so I took the car to Kumeu and had a blast! This was the first time I was able to take an old car to the show and drive through all the crowds and park up on the field, and went with my best mate as well.. it’s the little things that make me happy. No pics on the Saturday as I was enjoying myself too much, but had a bit of an adventure on the way there with the LF wheel nearly falling off. Was coming up to Lincoln Rd and started hearing a weird noise from the left front.. turned off at the next off ramp as it was getting worse and worse.. pulled over and noticed all the wheel nuts had nearly worked themselves off. Wonderful. Limped to the Repco at Westgate, bought a trolley Jack, axle stands and a wheel brace (none of that stuff in the car to start with so good to have the boot stocked up now with useable roadside assistance tools), jacked her up and tightened them all up again along with some of the other wheel nuts and we were off again. No more noises.. yay. Took the Mrs to the show on the Sunday (any excuse to drive my car), and she got all dressed up for the occasion. Bought the obligatory Mexican blanket for the front seat which capped off a pretty cool weekend.
