  3. Talk about two steps forward and one step back. Sitting last night and thinking through the plan of action for today, I suddenly had an uneasy feeling that I had got the gearbox gate lever movement incorrect. So first thing this morning I headed over to the HiAce donor and put the original column shift through its paces and sure enough I cocked up yesterday. So the cable needs to push when I had it pulling and vice versa. So back under the Thames for some more puzzling and all is not lost as I was able to trim the bracket that I fabricated yesterday to suit the correct movement. It's now bolted on to the side of the strut rod mount and the cable heads straight forward instead of having to make the lazy loop across the gearbox tail. But wait, there is more ....... With the orientation now correct the cable that I scavenged off the newer L300 Express is long enough to do the job ! Total win as the closest place to get a longer cable made up is down in Brisbane which is almost 500 km away. Gotta love the vast open spaces of Straya. Anyhoo, now that I'm back to where I thought I was yesterday, I can now crack into the front bracket for this cable tomorrow. Thanks for reading.

  6. When you've got Bingo at 3, but Trackday at 5: The difference from this has been amazing! Max torque has moved up another 1000rpm, and then it has 20hp ATW more at peak(66hp to 86hp) It starts valve bouncing pretty bad, this might be what the sudden torque drop is at higher rpm. I thought I might have made a mistake with logging it in virtual dyno so I went back and a did a few more runs and they all looked the same. This has felt worth the effort. Also interestingly the VVTI cam range that it likes now is a bit more typical to what I'd expect. So moving the cam around (about 20deg on midrange then tapers off to 5 up top) and it was even better again. I bet there's some good improvements too from de-choking the exhaust side too, because its absolutely tiny on that side just like the intake was. I'm not that keen on spending $$$$ on getting an exhaust made up though so I'll have a think about this one. Also, yes it makes a big bloody racket at full throttle now haha.

  7. Woo, been a while. Not sure what happened to all the pics, bike has been modded since then anyway so here are some new ones. Main new bits are, removed sissy bar, made some hard tail struts, softball bat exhaust and pegs are up above the engine now. Skinny

  8. Wow. It been six years since I last posted in this thread. I see it still has some missing photos I need to sort out at some point. Bloody photobucket. Anyway. Update time. This just happened... That's a new fresh legal stamp of approval stating that its safe to take our house out for some hoons. We just put it through a COF test because we have sold the housetruck recently to a nice local family. Wow. So much to take in. Suddenly things got very busy around our place! But I better back track to a while back with some various bits of work we did to improve the truck... In December 2018 we had a little leak from one of the skylights. Water was creeping through a spot, created initially by condensation on the skylight and had rotted the plywood roof around that area. It could possibly have been a local fix but we decided to take off the entire roof on that side, replace the ply, get rid of one skylight and make a new improved design with double glazing. A proper fix. It was hot and sunny, materials cheap and a satisfying thing to fix. Photos... Old design skylights looking a bit tatty... Rotten ply... rip it down starting with the butynol roofing... Open air bedroom... Lunchtime... new ply, new Butynol... New roof. New improved skylight yet to be built and fitted. Not got a photo of that but will get some. Was actually a pretty easy job- made better by sunshine, music and drugs. This dates the photo. Imp race car, Viva wagon. But check out that centre garden and compare it to the pics from when we first parked the truck up here 4 years previous to this pic... We also re-roofed both popouts because the drains that used to block with leaves when parked up in the Nelson campground had created some issues in the corners. New improved roofs and covered in alloy (for now- but it looks unfinished so we have some baby iron to fit before passing the truck over to its new owners) I didn't take too many photos- It was a job we just got stuck into. Here's what I did take. Luckily all the steel work was fine as. Some new wood, new ply and all good. Learned a lesson not to fuck about trying to make hidden drains! Keep it simple and easy to keep clean! Fast fowarding on to this year. We had chosen a while back to sell this housetruck and put the money towards building another. A few reasons why... 1: this truck layout didn't suit the aspect of our land. It never will. Stuff is in the wrong place. The bedroom at the front facing north for all day sun when we aint in there is silly. Turning it around doesn't help because that the sheltered doorway is in full blast of the main bad weather directions we get in our valley. 2: we are not using all of the truck to its full- the spare room is just filled with junk. The bike box is wasted not being used. The truck is too big in the wrong ways for us two. 3: I want to build another housetruck. This is probably the main reason really. But the next truck will be designed around our land and be removable (on legs) so we can use the truck when ever we want (cof and other costs considered). But yeah. I've got itchy housetruck building fingers. So much learned, so many little ideas. No pressure this time either because we have the cabin and the (being built right now) mezzanine floor to live in. Find the right truck and have fun. So a few people heard it was for sale, some came round and kicked its tyres and absorbed huge amounts of time but in the end it has gone to a young local family- who's parents had them growing up in a housetruck. Lovely people, staying local = happy sale. Its a great truck, they got a great deal and we are less stressed by keeping it local with friends. We decided we would put it through a cof even though there is a good chance it'll be parked up again for a few years. But it means everyone knows what the deal is and the condition. A few jobs in the last week after booking it in for its test. Clean some stuff, source and fit some seatbelts because its now registered as a motorhome and then test drive it... Just having a little look to see if its engine would fit the imp.... Such a lovely simple clean engine... Luckily I have been really strict on a regular routine of hopping in the cab every so often and pumping the brakes etc. Occasional starts on hot days when the air is dry and rock the truck on the clutch too. It all worked so nice. One rear brake was binding slightly - has been a bit tightly adjusted ever since I had fixed that leaky hub seal year ago. I backed that off and we took it down to the beach... Kevin joined us... We broke some rules... Hannah had a drive in the Abel Tasman carpark. She has not driven a truck since she owned her Bedford TK in Blighty. Happy Hannah wants to get her NZ truck license... I did some laps... We got home, gave it a really good clean, checked all the other bits and bobs. Today I drove it to Motueka VTNZ truck testing station where it was booked in... The fella was super nice, liked the truck. We went for lunch and came back to a freshly cof'd truck. It needed an orange bulb as one indicator cover is faded almost white in the harsh Nelson sun and he's advised I tighten the bearings on one side of the rear axle (the opposite side to that what I had worked on when doing the brakes way way back in 2012) We drove home happy but sad. Its been a great truck to us. Happy its going to a good home but still sad. Excited though...soon we can start hunting for another truck to buy!!! We had a beer to celebrate. Much work to do now- a few tidy up jobs on the truck and we have to finish the mezzanine to live in once the truck leaves our place at the ned of November! I'll have a few ideas to put forward for the next build. Some little designs that I would like to get others to view and discuss . Many minds etc etc. We will have the time to really make something sweet. I'm keen on another Hino - I would love a 4wd like our firetruck and have already been asking about via the various channels within Fenz (fire and emergency NZ - if you've not heard of that) plus there's a sweet classic truck down south I fancy. Hmmmmmmm.... Next housetruck build will be shorter in length, have a one sided full length pop out that extends at least 1.5 m, a bedroom over the cab but that raises up high for full standing height and slide back roof for star gazing. Open plan living area at the back with roll around walls for inside outside flow onto a verandah (when this truck is gone we will be landscaping the entire area its currently parked up on) Bloody excited really

  12. So yeah, famous last words last month with brakes together for last time. Turns out that all the bolts I got with the brakes are unsuitable. 12.9 bolts are not suitable for cyclic loading and use with steering, suspension or brakes. As per the Car Construction Manual. 10.9 and 8.8 are fine. They would probably be fine, but not something I can be bothered replacing later if they get picked up. So grabbed all the replacement bolts and Nord-Lock washers this arvo. Pulled it all to bits, replaced bolts / nuts (including the also unsuitable nylocs (thanks for the heads up @cletus) previously shown) and added so more grease for good measure. Since last update i've had the front edge of the bonnet repaired as it was rusting in the seam and had blown out more than a fat person in a cake shop. I had a pro do that as i'd most likely fuck it up. I also finished welding in the door patches and remade the bottom corners. Ground it all back and dropped the doors at the restoration man. He will remove the distortion in the first door I did. He gave me some tips for repairing the second door and it made all the difference to the end result. I have dropped him that one too though as there were a couple of hollows in the door to pop out. Should get those back in a week or so hopefully. Ordered tyres last week after asking in spam about sidewall sizes. Went with RE003's as they were one of two tyres I was looking into and @xsspeed mentioned the sidewalls aren't extreme. Getting them fitted to wheels tomorrow arvo, so will give the wheel bolts a quick polish, last minute spec. Have been spending all my time on other car jobs until I knew tyres had arrived in stock. Fingers crossed the weak offset wheels fit on the front without contacting the struts. Coilovers means thicker diameter shock body by probably 10mm or so. So it makes it a really tight fit to jam a 7" tyre between the strut and stock wheel arch. Nothing extreme here size wise, it doesn't need it. Closer the wheel sits to the shock the lower I can probably get it before it rubs. Will be doing some sanding of bog and priming to finish out this week. Will likely need to get some more colour match cans as I don't have the space to use proper gun, so proper backyard shit job it is. Don't really care what it looks like though at this point, just need it in for cert next month. Which if you looked at the car in person, you'd just laugh and go with "yeah right" Photo so this isn't a photo-less update.

  14. I am at the point of no return with rebuilding an engine, I need to come up with another 5k I think for the work. I did buy what I was told was a rebuilt engine that is in the car now but it’s been done wrong and fumes and tapps, oil pressure not great. It’s actually more economical I think to go down the rebuild road, then I know what I have got.

  15. Awesome to start from the beginning and watch / read where this has gone ... almost predictable but still so cool! Glad you've got a yellow one, and 2 door too! Sounds like a you may be acquiring a 4th soon too lol

  16. Its funny but since you started your Integra thread I have been spotting them about. I quite enjoyed reading how you would look for better original bits, factory fresh (along with Eds Toyota mr2 thread that was similar in ways) Now I'm spotting Marches everywhere... Now I totally understand the fun that is trying to get nicer bits and tidying it up. Its refreshing not to have to stress about dealing with rust, modifying things to fit, certs etc. Just tidy up what's there and the little details. I'm very much looking forward to building the yellow one into the car we want, picking the best bits and cleaning it all.

  17. Hooray a 2 door! I heartily approve the barry spec collecting of bits. Looking forward to see what comes of the yellow car. Also I love how quickly this escalated from "definitely not a project" to owning 3 and lots of parts

  20. It only has 155 wide tyres on it, they are basically a space saver already hahaha. I've got my lithium battery I can fit which saves about 10-15kg depending on original battery weight. intake temp doesnt matter too much compared to air temperature on the day but the printed parts also dont carry much heat. low tank of gas, and seats out for sure. My power hasnt actually started tapering off that much at high rpm, its just that it valve bounces like crazy so I need to be exactamundo on gear changes or I'll get super penalized by low rpm into the next gear. But previously rev limit was 6400rpm or something like that, so shifting a whole 1000rpm+ extra will be great. It's easy enough to wire in a shift light so will do that. 3rd gear goes to 172kph at 7200rpm so there will only be two gear changes happening on the day! Last time this did a 2.5 second 60foot, with a decent jump off the line just sluggy through the rest of 1st. This has steel wheels on it at the moment, I've got a bid on some 14x5 alloys which will hopefully be a little lighter maybe. This was my best run from last time. Left lane obviously haha.

  21. Space savers to go on the rear for drag day? 3 nuts per wheel instead of 4 :p ice on the ITBs? Rear and passenger seat removed 1/4 tank of fuel remove the battery and start with a jumper pack? lower the front tyre pressure to get a better contact patch and increase traction

  22. Doesn't matter that it's rusty does it? Purely an engine donor for the yellow mobile + maybe some other limited edition turbo model stuff none of us know about? You've already got the donor LSD, you've gotta get the donor turbo.

  23. No need to rescue the whole thing - surely all the super turbo parts would fit in a shoebox for easy postage ?

  26. Fitted the supertrapp with what bends and pipe i had left sounds nice and thumpy and not too loud, it pops a bit and spits massive blue flames on deceleration (like a 40cm ring of flame!) I'll redo the headers in 1 1/2" eventually and move the muffler lower and out of way but for now its usable again. Low stall mod worked engages drive earlier doesn't seem to have affected the cvt operation changes ratios as it did before.

  30. Am still itching to work on this haha.. hopefully some time next year I'll be back on to this. Anyway went into storage to take the tacho off to use for the crown. Thought I'd take some pics.. looks exactly the same it did when I put it in few years ago.. with "CUNT" still shining thru a coverup where my brothers ex girlfriend wrote him a message when they broke up. Bless her.

  31. Fucking GC!! Was pretty much set on doing the rod change myself, have access to a big press, lathe and dial indicators etc and know how to do it, just don't really have the confidence that I'll be able to get the run out down to 0.05mm! @MopedNZ highly recommend Tauranga Motor Machining so I gave them a call and with the quote I got, there is no point in me making press plates and everything else I'd have needed to make to attempt it, so if time/motivation allows I'll pull the engine out and get the crank up to them in the near future. Not really much of an update, more of a thanks Callum!!

  35. Oh dear. We sort of have three Marches now. Picking this one up at the end of the month... So happy. Its like a dream. A yellow 2 door. Its low mileage and very tidy. 1.0 with a rubberband auto. Gonna have some fun later in summer swapping all the bits mechanical across, inc the pre-facelift wings, lights, grill and spoilers. Make our ultimate looking Micra. The lady we are buying it from is super happy we are basically k11 foamers/nerds and that its going to a good home. I like these little March sill guards. Also noted that it has the original March mat set with the bubble car logo, still in good nick. Not sure on the name yet - but currently they are referred to as Millie, Molly and Mandy. Some might say we have a problem but its all smiles here * I've just noticed how terribly both cars are parked.. Micra drivers be all like "and I'll just put it here and that will be that".. and get away with it because their car so tiny.

  37. In the previous post you may have noticed the crusty corners of the hatch! So i set about some doing some foldy bendy things and also got a spin on a hand swaging machine. I made both sides using the RH side as a pattern. 2 layers of goodness. And welded the LH side in after some alignment checks

  39. That 7.4kw is before we bin the cat and fit a 3" zaust! 10KW gainz. On a serious note though the cam phasing will work better again once you open up the exhaust side somehow, especially the headers. Oh and offer that guy $100 for that TRD manifold.

  40. This is so good. Probably another 5-10hp+ in some headers and zaust, buy a box of bends and make spaghetti/mess

  41. I've driven a couple of cars with them fitted and they always seem to drive like a carb with the choke stuck on I also enquired with the local holley distributor about purchasing a holley version of the same thing and his response was something along the lines of "no, I wont sell those things, they are a fuckup, why would you want to put the ecu on the hottest most vibration affected area of the car?" Makes sense haha

  43. Re-mounted the radiator today. I decided that I didn't like the position, so have moved it to the middle. Ordered a new k&n air filter to fit the space which will mount on the side. I'll make a new transition piece to feed the air box. I'll figure out the ducting once there's an engine in the hole again.

  44. Got some more bits and did some stuff this weekend. Got the correct waterpump (take note of how oldschool the packaging is haha), the right dissy rotor and thermostat. Also picked up some parts ignition leads which didn't fit, so they're now returned. I've fitted up the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, drive belt and cleaned up the covers while I was at it. I've also fitted the dissy condenser, cap, rotor and points (just need to bring my feeler gauge home from work to set the points gap, set the valves and also the new plugs). I've also done the filters and put some fresh oil through it (I don't think it's had a service in a very long time, the fuel filter looked like it was 20 years old!). Have also picked up some 80w for the transmission. With the coolant system I've cleaned up the thermostat housing and fit the new thermostat. The radiator hoses felt super crunchy when I was moving them around so I ended up rolling then out and running the tap through them and so much corroded shit came out haha. In other news I've had issues trying to source a second hand radiator and the cost to recore was ridiculous so I've picked up an el cheapo chinesium alloy Honda Civic radiator from redline and having Euron8 Chris weld on some mounts and a boss so I can fit it up with the original fan and sensor. Hopefully the legend will have it sussed out this week for me :). Will have some more boring maintenance updates soon. Chur, Tai

  46. Home again. Real pleased with the results and it cost less than I thought it was going to, as I'd asked Grant to paint the wheels and a couple of other bits, and respray the black parts that got primer overspray at the blasting place It's hard to get a good pic of the colour as it seems quite different depending on light and the camera Now i just have to not fuck it up too much as I put it back together
